dear asus, here is a small suggestion from your loyal user. If can, please install a small cooling fan in the router since some of the user always turn on the router 24/7. Hope asus would implement this in future. thanks.

Yeah, this would be good.

With my AC68U running 24/7 (under a ceiling fan), my router's temp was always reading 89C.

I took the advice of a fellow forummer and attached a laptop cooler fan kit to the back of the router. The router runs at 65C now IIRC.

I see. I'm using a low end router, Asus RT-N14UHP as the main router replacing the stock L7 router and a Asus RT-N12 as the repeater for my pc. The main router (RT-N14UHP) tends to get hot and I have to buy a cooling fan to cool it down along with the BTU.

Not sure if you'd consider it, but let me share my story.

My AC68U was also quite hot to the touch. I have it operating 24x7 in the living room with the ceiling fan running. Some time back, I attached a cheap laptop cooler to the router to help cool it down.

No issues till now.

hi asus,

seeking your suggestion if i need to change router and if so, which is best choice.

i hv been using rtn12hpb1 for >4 years now, extremely pleased with it.

i recently changed 2 lan cables to cat6.

wifi is impt, from one corner to another, longest distance is almost 60ft (and yes, i can get almost full speed).

i should be moving from unifi 50mbps to 100 next week.

.. will the existing router be able to deliver optimal performance?
.. i know my router is only 2.4ghz but if i change to dual, i m concerned if 5ghz can cover 60ft..?
.. if better change, will cheaper ac1300uhp do or go for something higher like ac86u?
.. i do not see my needs expanding too fast at this time.

thanks for help.

My friend, if you're moving from 50 to 100Mbps, then I am sorry to say, your router might not fully utilize the internet speed due to it comes with fast ethernet port. To fully utilize the speed over 100Mbps, you need a gigabit router.

Any asus router that supports dual band can make it (gigabit)

5ghz has less coverage than 2.4ghz. 5ghz not capable to penetrate through multiple walls.

does that mean i will not be able to get full 100mbps for wifi?

i do not have many walls and metal structures for wifi coverage.

yes, i m concerned that 5ghz can take higher speed but can't cover the distance - that's no good.

can't get the best of both?

as it is, i can get full 50mbps.

Fast ethernet has a wan port and 4xlan port that able to handle 10/100 Mbit/s.

Gigabit ethernet has a wan and 4xlan that able to handle 10/100/1000 Mbit/s.

For more information, you can refer here.

Nowadays, all ac router comes with gigabit ethernet port and the wireless able to handle speed more than 100Mbps.

As an example, if you are using your old router which has fast ethernet port with 100Mbps package, you only will be able to get the speed between 80 to 94Mbps. If you are using gigabit ethernet router, you able to fully utilize your isp package like heaven between 100 to 104Mbps.

You able to get full 50Mbps due to the router can support that speed my friend.

ok, thanks, i follow.

but what about the wifi coverage?

if a dual band with 5ghz can't cover a certain distance well, will that mean same speed but little getting thru = no good?
*
Mostly, you can get 50 - 60% of bandwidth from your isp package if the bar shows 3/5 or 2/5. 5ghz cannot get through multiple walls compared with 2.4ghz. To overcome this, please download wifi analyzer to scan the network and have a look on which wireless channel has the most rating and choose the best rating. Normally, i set chl 11 for 2.4hz at 20mhz and auto for 5ghz wireless signal.

Last time I kena when using streamyx 1Mbps. Lmao. each time after get back to school always hang with tm customer service. Sounding them is my part of routine. Haha. At last i able to trace the culprit when he "calls me and claim that he is TM's person" claims that he need to do testing of the line as a part of the troubleshooting. He calls me when he knows that i already change password and username from tm.

I am not sure bro. those days when we dial up streamyx need username and password right, perhaps he might bypass the connection. he is my thirdparty streamyx installer. so i didn't lodge a report on him because pity of him.

I accidently switched off my router and when it connects again to the internet, the ip add showing is 1.35.XXX.XXX thing and after i rebooted again, it is showing 60.XX.XXX.XXX. Rebooted again and get 210.XXX.XXX.XXX. For me, i fell, the most solid ip for me is 115, 210 and 215. Even 175 is good for me. Yeah regarding the ip i get, 1 and 60, when i did speedtest on wifi and over the ethernet, the speed is around 20 to 30Mbps only. for upload i get around 13Mbps. The speed changes when i shift to the 210 ip address.

I've tested the ASUS RT-N800HP and I amazed with its wireless performance. This is my review of the router. The router suitable for those who are using wireless (+coverage) than wired connectivity.

Good morning guys. I need some suggestions: 1300UHP vs 68U.

My house is 2 storeys intermediate, Unifi plan 300Mbps. I plan to put the router at the ground floor. Which of the device above is able to give better WiFi coverage until first floor to fully utilize the 300Mbps? Thank you.
*
care about your budget = 1300UHP
Want to future-proof your network equipment = ac68u.
