Just got myself a RT-AX86U Pro and I can't seem to connect to my WAN (Unifi).

Are there any special settings that needs to be done or is it just PPPoE username and password?
*
Unifi uses VLAN so you need to choose the profile

Same goes to pretty much every big ISP in Malaysia except TIME and Allo

Want to check about compatible AiMesh for some different setup:

1) Can AiMesh pair up between RT-AX86u (Main) and RT-AC86U (as node)?
any downside example main router will not performance full speed with WiFi-6?

2) ZenWiFi XD5 / XT8 can pair up with normal Wireless router, example with RT-AX86U? Cannot, right?

3) ZenWiFi XD5, XT8 XT9 - if one day, one node broken (not working), can we get one of ZenWiFi can pair up?
Example XD5 with XD6 or XT8 with XT9 ?

Hi sam240,

1) Can, the RT-AX86U will have the same WiFi performance when you connect to it. The node will not have any WiFi 6 features.

2) Can, ZenWiFi and normal wireless router are using AiMesh, so they can mix together.

3) Can, as long as they are AiMesh supported you can mix.

What you need to take note is the WiFi speed between the main router and node and the number of bands of the router(dual/tri/quad bands) when you doing upgrade or changes.

Thank you

ASUS router works with any ISP

For Astro fibre just need to key in the VLAN ID manually

It looks like could be a faulty modem issue. My LAN2 or LAN 1 just not lit up. Called Maxis and they suspected it’s a modem issue and will be replacing my modem. Hopefully it solves the problem.

It turns out it is not my modem issue as well. laugh.gif
Solved it by unplugging and plugging in again the fiber optic cable though it is not loose. I just didn't want to give up. At that time, I had no other options besides waiting for Maxis Experts to come, my connection was already down, so I tried out everything I could.

So, in short, no issue with my Asus router. biggrin.gif

Anyone here running AX88u with XT8 on wired mesh?
Any issues?
Saw some comments online saying mix matching devices isnt the best combo due to stability and connection issues?

It's fine. AiMesh between same platform / codebase is very stable. Both AX88U and XT8 are Broadcom based.

I have a AX88U + XD6 setup for one of my family member that I only visit once a year, never got any complain calls. laugh.gif

In fact, even AX88U + BE58U would be fine.

Thanks for the feedback
Have you ever tried to mesh BE88u with AX88u before?
In a bit of a dilema, since if I choose BE88u I could prep my house for 2.5G but a used XT8 is way cheaper

If I'm not mistaken you must have the exact same Asus router for MLO to work.
If you value MLO in WiFi 7, keep that in mind.

I like the performance of BE88U though laugh.gif

The current XT8 V2 on sale now perform pretty much same if not slightly better than AX88U

quick question about AiMesh:
Can a Asus router (as main) with official Asus firmware pair with another Asus router (as node) which had been flashed with Asuswrt-Merlin firmware?
or vice versa?
