Recently I setup AI Mesh router in my home with my old Asus router (node) with new Asus router (main), although I stand near to main router, but don't know why phone still "like" to connect to old router rather than to new router (main).
Is there a way to block/filter my node to connect to selected devices? I cannot find many setting on node.
Or maybe blocked all wifi connection from node to all devices thru Wifi?
Actually on node I can use only LAN connection.

So if you want your node to work like a wireless to LAN receiver, use media bridge mode

It's faster than AiMesh

oh, I forgot mention I have 1 main router + 2 node. So 1 of node can set as wireless to LAN receiver? So just need to set as media bridge mode? Thanks for the tips, tonight will go and try and see.

I have some questions on my AiMesh setup :
1) Main Router in living room (ground floor)
2) 2nd router as node (1st floor)
Connected by wired.

Connection is very stable, but when I check the details on node, my phone always connect to node instead of main router although I stand very close to my main router (I'm at ground floor), my phone still "love" connect to node which at upstairs. blink.gif

Under node > Clients > only can see "bind" and "Optimization", if I choose "bind", so it will "locked" to the main router, once I go upstairs, it will not connect to my "node" which is closer blink.gif
Is there a way to fix this ?
Is there a way to set priority router that I want my phone connect to?

I notice the mesh function is not "intelligent" and create seamless wifi for my case.

Hi sam240,

May I know what is the router and node model?

And can you try update the firmware to the latest?

Thank you
*
They are old routers: RT-AC88U (Main) & RT-AC86U (node).
Well, both been flashed to the latest Asuswrt-M**lin (both version: 386.14_2, no longer supported anymore sweat.gif ).
I'm not sure is the official firmware will work better? (sorry, I've been long time in M**lin)

The best way is by separating 2.4GHz and 5 GHz.. If still connect to your unpreferred, you must reduce the TX power adjustment either 2.4GHz or 5GHz from Performance to Balance.
*
Well, all the while separated, bcoz it confused to some of my 2.4Ghz smart devices.
"Reduce the TX", good tip, will try adjust it and see notworthy.gif
It only allow to adjust for the main router, so node will follow the level of TX as well?

Want to check about compatible AiMesh for some different setup:

1) Can AiMesh pair up between RT-AX86u (Main) and RT-AC86U (as node)?
any downside example main router will not performance full speed with WiFi-6?

2) ZenWiFi XD5 / XT8 can pair up with normal Wireless router, example with RT-AX86U? Cannot, right?

3) ZenWiFi XD5, XT8 XT9 - if one day, one node broken (not working), can we get one of ZenWiFi can pair up?
Example XD5 with XD6 or XT8 with XT9 ?

Hi sam240,

1) Can, the RT-AX86U will have the same WiFi performance when you connect to it. The node will not have any WiFi 6 features.

2) Can, ZenWiFi and normal wireless router are using AiMesh, so they can mix together.

3) Can, as long as they are AiMesh supported you can mix.

What you need to take note is the WiFi speed between the main router and node and the number of bands of the router(dual/tri/quad bands) when you doing upgrade or changes.

Thank you

quick question about AiMesh:
Can a Asus router (as main) with official Asus firmware pair with another Asus router (as node) which had been flashed with Asuswrt-Merlin firmware?
or vice versa?

Merlin did not touch AiMesh at all so that should be fine

There is no advantage running Asuswrt-Merlin on the nodes, Merlin modifications are related to routing and DNS. You're better installing Asus firmware on the Aimesh nodes.

Asus router required a very challenging password for me to remember, is there a way to make it more simpler or not limit to
10 characters & 1 numberics ?

With SSH method, I able to set own format password with it, just wondering is there any other way to do?
