go for tokina, since its f2.8 which is good for low light indoor

1) Need some advise on flash, will looking for flashgun....will
Yong nuo 560 or NISSIN DI622 MARK II can attach with A57 directly or need adaptor for the flash? or F43 flash will better flashgun for it?

2) Need sifu to teach how to use SP 90 1:1 macro shooting....I getting lost focus when i turn to 1:1 macro, unless i get closer to subject, how to shooting 1:1 when far to subject? tq all sifu in advance

The sony is 11-18mm, btw, not 11-16mm.

1) i still think F58 is a better one, but if 3 of your choice, F43 will be better..

2) 1:1 i believe you need to shoot in MFD (minimum focus distance) when it's far, the magnification drop, mean no longer 1:1..

Sifus please advice, yesterday when shooting wedding dinner, suddenly i cant switch to manual mode on my f43 flash. Im using a77 by the way... when i change to manual mode, when i click on shutter button, it changes back to TTL.. am i doing anything wrong?

Comparing f58 and f43, f43 is the better flash. F58 is only better if you want a higher flash power.

if you are using bounce flash then it will automatically change back to TTL.

iinm manual mode flash only in M mode at body i think

Just referred to the user manual... got it to work now... actually just need to turn PASM on to enable different mode in body also can use manual flash mode. If is turned off(by default) then only manual mode in body can use manual mode in flash.

I realize about that too. But tokina won't work on full frame if I upgrade

F43. The others do not have TTL. It's a pain in the ass if you're using flash for the first time and needing to use manual. The SP90 cannot do 1:1 when you're far. It has to be near to do 1:1.

environment: small room; camera to subject 3ft, camera to subject white bg(wall) 6ft, flash to ceiling ~5-6ft
setting: iso200, f5.6, 50mm focal, TTL, M mode, flash compensation -0.3


in comparison tests, I found:

Hot-shoe attached
- pure flash 0 degree ceiling bounce is the best if ceiling is low for most soft light
- pure flash 45 degree bounce is the best if ceiling is low for softer light & little catch light
- diy soupphere complete failed when shoot 90 degree flash to subject (not doing well on the doom)
- diy bd seem not working well, feel the dish is too narrow

summary: if ceiling there, it rock w/o any gadget. if not, my guess still need to bounce high ceiling and pull out the bounce card in f43

p/s: if i am wrong, please stab lightly enough

i) if u ask any of us here, we sure tell u, get sony flash, dont spend money on 3rd party, few month later u get tired of the inconsistency and damn troublesome to use, eventually u will come back here and ask... "where to get the cheapest F43?".... just skip to F43. save the troublesome journey.

ii) macro 1:1 just MF to the max 1:1 then adjust ur camera distance until subject is in focus.
actually, most macro shooter dont exactly shoot at 1:1, most of use shoot at desire "DOF"...

steve88, zstam, mastering89: there is a overwrite setting inside the flash, where it allows manual flash in PAS mode. usually its disable and auto goes back to TTL/ADI when detected the camera is on PAS mode.

Directly get f58am. Its so lovely and powerful. No point go through f43 unless really budget constrain.

even thought f43 design little bit change compare to conventional flash gun. but the flash head still enough space to hold your diy BD lol...

i thought f43 got smaller minimum output compare to f58, some say is better

Of all the ultra wide lenses you mentioned, only the Sigma 12-24 is full frame. The rest are all aps-c lenses. If you have intention to go full frame and want to keep the ultra wide, then you basically don't have a choice.

Added on December 25, 2012, 3:07 amYes, the F43 can go down to 1/128th of full power, whereas F58 can only go down to 1/32th, hence better. If you're going for outright raw power, then obviously the f58 is better, in fact, now it's the f60 that took the lead.

Long exposure, referring to 60 seconds or more. Most of those shots were at 90 secs

iso 200 not clean the camera can throw liao

true, but it does not mean camera got iso 200, mean we can obtain such clean photo. if the user not clear what in his setting, still will end up different output of picture.

lwliam is pro, that why his shot is so clean-nice! if person noob like me, may be i would ended bad shot in wrong setting lol...

Nothing to do with pro or not, why not you go try it out yourself, no harm trying, trial and error they call it. Once you've taken your shots, post up some shots that you think is nice, see if we can see anything that you can improve on.

there is a method can check whether got any over exposure in LR. may be need some pro to advise. i used to watch in youtube in some tutorial. it is seem easy just drag the or pressing some keys, entire picture change into black /white to see the trend....

Use the histogram, if it 'clips' (cut off abruptly) on the right side means some highlight is gone, hence overexposed.

porkchop's question wasn't about whether the pics are overexposed in technical terms or not. His question is whether his method of 'high key' used to shoot the model is 'acceptable' or not. It is a subjective question.

As for jimlim's reply, it's by using the "level's adjustment layer". Hold down Alt and drag the black/white slider to see which part of the image is clipped.
