My Y480 is about 3 months old now and the area between the keyboard and the left edge is making some noise (think walking up old wooden stairs) whenever pressure is applied at that area.

Anyone facing such issues? Also, I noticed that the top of the laptop gets scratched easily. I'm not sure how those scratches got these since my laptop is inside my bag most of the time.

Not impressed with the build quality at all but can't complain given the powerful specs.

What about y500? the specs looks even better, but is a SLI type of model. Will it be overheated? Because is running on 2 graphic card.
Since the price gap between both is not far apart.

So far la... Y500 no problem for me. Highest temperature i got is around 65C, Idle at 35C. Which is even better than Asus ROG Laptop.

About quality, Y500 is more beautiful than Y580. The curve at the back of the cover of Y500 is absolutely awesome, and the BackLit (Red color) at the keyboard is just nice.

The only problem is that, games which not supported by SLI might be the only weakness to Y500. And I think Nvidia will fix it.

Price wise : Y580
Gaming : Y500
Appearancee : Y500

I love that apps when I was using desktop... the fan speed profiling is very useful to control the temperature... Last time my Asus graphic card has some weird fan speed profile in it so the temperature always more than 70'C when playing games, so I set my own profile my card never run more than 63'C... biggrin.gif

though, I dont see a use for this apps nowadays... i dont think it can control the laptop exhaust fan... or it can? I dont want to downclock, I dont see a reason for that at this moment... I'm happy with my laptop's GPU idling temp...

If with stock speed, its around 50-54c (not in aircond room). If i lower it,was 42-46c.But if you set it too low..Your laptop might restart..LOL *Use at your own risk*

Guys, I was looking around for a laptop with 2 budgets

a) Below 2k (G480)

http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=2397675&hl=

b) Below 2.5k (Y480)

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2349017/all

This specs seems to be a little different from the one on the first page of this thread, any reasons why?

Will the 2.5k laptop have a lot of difference in terms of gaming performance compared with the 2k laptop?

Could be grey import set. Check their warranty period 1 year, and i do came across a thread where TS cant claim warranty due to grey imports.

Local set gives 2 years warranty.

What's your priority, that's what you need to make sure first.

In order to achieve max performance, Y500 will need SLI... the performance is superb with the SLI, the drawback is the price tag and SLI config/support that might not be 100% compatible at the game launch, though I see that as thing in the past but some might still think twice. An update is highly recommended every time new driver is released if you go with SLI.

If budget is an issue, Y580 is a better choice for performance. GTX660M perform better than single GT650M.

If budget is not an issue, and you like the idea of SLI clearly Y500 is the winner here.

Y480 you listed here is probably not intended for Malaysian market. You can buy, but you might have issue with warranty.

Performance comparison between G480 and Y480, I would say pretty big.... While gaming might still be able to be done with playable framerate, I would say just go for Y480. You'll get better quality graphics plus better framerate...
