nope.... most y580 wifi issue is due to lousy wifi card....
max speed iinm only 72Mbps eventhough it's N-wifi
*
Broadcom 4313? Yeah, the max speed is 72Mbps and due to that it's still classified as Wireless-N.
I have the same Wifi Card in my DV6 but other than the max speed, I never suffer any disconnection or weak signal.
Perhaps it's due to driver but it could also could be due to hardware design such as the antenna itself.
Perhaps those suffering from the Wi-Fi problem could use the driver from other laptop maker or the chipset maker.

planning to either use a crucial msata or samsung 830/840 normal SSD. how is the crucial msata performance wise? mostly other msatas are more expensive and read write speeds are lower compared to normal SSDs

and whats the work around for the wifi card ? can you change that

someone here said the temperatures with running windows 7 are not high.. can anyone confirm that ?

guys.
i have a question on my y480.

tried both windows 7 and windows 8 installed.
it happened that even in the idle state the temperature on win8 is roughly 60-70 degree C.
while on win7 its ranging from 30-50 degree C.

on some severe works using autocad12, cs6 and sketchup my laptop would shut itself.
even for both OS.
any of you guys using the same model as mine?
featuring the GT640M LE.

I would say there's cooling problem here...

you can try to do dust removal in the power management apps.

or you can send it to service center and get them clean and apply new thermal paste

Thanks for the suggestion bro. rclxms.gif
I'll try doing the dust removal first and if the problem persist I shall visit the service center.

Any idea where is the service centre?
Since I bought mine 2+1 year warranty.

Hey there,

Im planning to get Lenovo y500 or 580,
After reading the previous post, found out that y580 have wifi problem. What about y500, im planning to get the SLI version. Is it a good buy?
or any cons about the laptop, the specification and price looks tempting. Is certainly comparable in alienware laptops (Certain price range).

I didnt know about the wifi problem in y580..i just know that it has a slightly lower max speed but nevertheless my y580 is working fine, download able to reach 500kb++ with unifi vip5. With the price of 2850,i regret nothing for this machine. rclxm9.gif

Sometimes wifi will drop low but it don't effect much as i can get max download speed with unifi 5mbps 500-600kbps download.

What about y500? the specs looks even better, but is a SLI type of model. Will it be overheated? Because is running on 2 graphic card.
Since the price gap between both is not far apart.

I'm also unsure of which model to get. Only bad point about the y500 i've read is some people experiencing faulty keyboards and touchpads though the touchpad problem has been addressed by lenovo.

Guys, I have been reading up a lot of bugs happening on this laptop(Y580), anyone got the graphics bug for a local machine(defective GPU)? Most of the bugs were reported by people who bought from Lenovo.com itself.

None I'm aware of.... I've been playing a lot of games, from Simcity 4 to Skyrim, no graphical bugs whatsoever...

I tend to say there're 3 cause if people are experiencing graphics bug, GPU defect, bad driver, or jack-sparrow games on Win8... most likely it's from the 2nd one, bad driver... jack-sparrow games usually will not even launch...

What kind of graphic bugs are you saying ?
Because I've played loads of games from captain hook and everything seems fine.

Any specific drivers that they are using ?

Been seeing a lot of people with defective graphics card after buying it. Like testing the laptop in 3dMark can cause weird lines appearing. Oh and some people's laptop can't play any games, it would just crash.

Based on their answers, they have tried beta drivers and the stock driver.

y500 ftw bro ! for me so far no problems. apparently there are some touchpad problems but mine feels fine. only downside i would say is the battery life sad.gif cant tahan for long ! other than that the sli card works like a charm and powered all my games beautifully ! try not to get windows 8 tho :/ imo windows 8 seriously sucks...
