Just called Citiphone to have my annual fee waived for my Cashback plat card, but the unfriendly citibank phone operator said "no we can't help you waive the fee sir, you have to pay RM190 for it"
I was like what? I've been using the card for 2 years now with average 1-2k spending per month... Never late in paying my bills too... this is ridiculous... I having the card canceled!

GST of RM50 will be charged on your first statement, pay it first. RM50 should be credited back in your next statement as long as you have made 3 swipes.

Ok! will test it out biggrin.gif

Keep calling until one of them agrees to waive it. It seems there is no standard for annual fee waiver, all depends on the customer service personnel. hmm.gif

My Clear Card Annual Fee also waived. First call customer service, cannot waived. Then I call again another day to customer service for card termination. The credit card department called back few days later and waived my annual fee.

Mine is on the 3rd year and they say they are only able to waive it for me for the first two years... And when I threaten them to cancel the card, the personnel said "yes sir no problem for you to cancel the card, but please make the payment for your outstanding bill for the coming month and then call back in again to cancel the card..."

Very arrogant customer service... (Btw, I called midnight so I guess the midnight crew is less professional)

Already made my payment (Via GIRO and waiting for the amount to be transferred over) for the outstanding and will call to cancel the card Monday / Tuesday and see what happens wink.gif

Judging by the way the CS replied, seems like they have some sort of SOP in handling annual fee waiver requests and probably they check on certain criterial as well. hmm.gif

I believe so. Maybe number of swipes per annum, total $$ swiped per annum, etc.

I've been a user of Citibank Cashback ever since it came out (4+ years I think?) and this time, they refuse to waive my annual fees.

Spoke to 2 CS personnel, both reverted with the same negative response. One commented that "marketing dept not offering any waiver for this product this year".

I consistently use my card at least 4-5 times a month so it can't be due to inactivity. In any case, I requested for a cancellation and they did so without hesitation. So long, Citibank.
