got another question...

what make my WRT54Gv2.2 restart itself? is it due to the dd-wrt or router itself? my previous WAG200G dont have this situation although when it hang, I still need to restart myself.

I think it is the DD-WRT. What version did you use now?

v23 SP2, tried v24 RC3/4 before but due memory leak, I flashed it to v23 SP2.

I am using Tomato right now. I have to say its way better then DD-WRT. Before this I was using DD-WRT because I was using IPV6 .But now , I'm on Maxis (and no IPV6). So I switched firmware to Tomato. Pretty much Tomato firmware looks sleek and nice. No memory leaks

The beauty of this firmware lies with QoS. I mean it has a better packet controlling system then DD-WRT and it does not hog any memory. Its just lighter version. I'll post screenshots later for all !

guys..just bought Buffalo WHR-54FS few days ago. didn't dare to flash it to DDWRT coz afraid will brick it since i'm a noob in networking.  blush.gif anyway, the connection is not stable all the time. can't surf the net at times & gotta restart it. but weirdly MSN still ok when the net surfing is down. anything to do with the firmware? or isit due to my streamyx connection?  icon_question.gif

you're having this problem because all ur tcp connection ports in ur router has been used. the reason why ur msn still ok is because the connection has already been established before the amount of connection was flooded. any new connection that you try to establish will have problem. thats why, you should flash to DD-wrt or any other 3rd party firmware which allows you to increase the tcp connection amount and also set the cleanup rate.

i also tried tomato on WRT54GL, but my wireless connection seem not stable. My bro pc and my nokia E61i seem cant detect wireless connection. Even with reboot, disable and enable back...still didnt solve... rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

Any1 encounter this problem?

I actually like tomato, it clean, lean and fast....but the above problem really annoyed me much as I like to surf forum using E61i. I wonder wat is the problem.. sad.gif

p/s: Now flash back to DD-WRT, wireless connection back to stable stage.

I had that problem. What I did was , Clean Reset...I restarted the whole router and cleaned

It seems that upgrading/downgrading from DD-WRT has messed the router up. So I had no choice but to start from fresh. Now its working okay and my PCs can detect it

When you upgrade any firware, you MUST always clear the NVRAM otherwise the router will not work properly. This is a widely known issue.

Just want to confirm, Clean reset ( or Clear NVRAM) meaning hard reset by pressing the reset button for longer time? or there is other way.

I will try once again this weekend...really like the clean, lean of tomato..

If you upgraded from another firmware, a complete reset is recommended. Go to Administration/Configuration and select "Erase all NVRAM..." after installing Tomato.

so this is a known issue for Buffallo WHR-54GS? what's the possibility of bricking it when flashing to DDWRT? i'm kinda worried but was left with no choice since it always hang across some period of time. there are 2 DDWRT FW for it, v23 sp2 standard & v23 sp2 special final. which on should i choose? thanks. smile.gif

EDIT : @ dd-wrt.com, its instructions in flashing to DDWRT included a step where u need to change the router's IP address to 192.168.1.1. would my WHR54GS conflict with the Aztech DSL600E (modem) since both share the same IP address? icon_question.gif

My advice is that if you do not understand the instructions, you'd better avoid it. Better to stick with a 90% functioning router than one which is completely bricked. Having said that, I've updated two WHR-54G-HP without problems. First time I did it, I took a chance of bricking the router since I wasn't completely clear on the instructions on doing it.

is it that complicated? or is there anyone kind enough to help me flash it to DDWRT? i'm really sick of the flooded TCP connections everytime i'm torrenting. cry.gif

It is not complicated at all. You just need to READ and UNDERSTAND every single instruction given to you by DD-WRT.

Me too, happy user of Tomato firmware.
My WRT54GL used to reboot itself/disconnect streamyx line after a few hours, with DD-WRT sad.gif
Now, flashed with Tomato, no frequent reboot or disconnection anymore rclxms.gif
Not to mention, its excellent QoS feature. biggrin.gif

Ya. tomato is a nice alternative WRT.
But QoS still not really "work" for me yet.
Before tomato, I use DD_WRT(QoS disable) and CFosSpeed software QoS...everything when smooth without much problem surfin net. Even I opened Xunlei +emule.

Now, I use tomato with QoS enable but CFosSpeed disable...surfing will be last with Xunlei+emule.

Izzit QoS not working? Any1 got any setup for tomato's QoS? maybe can post a guide or something...I follow the QoS setting at this website: http://www.decimation.com/markw/2007/10/03/tomato-qos-setup/
But i would said is not so effective for me YET

just managed to flashed from my Buffalo's original firmware to DD-WRT v23 SP2 yesterday without any problems. rclxms.gif QoS works just nice but still web browsing abit laggy when torrenting. have tried setting bittorent under 'Bulk' services & the necessary settings for TCP/UDP in IP Filter Seriings too. anyone knows why? wanted to flash it v24 RC4. is it much better than my current v23 SP2? cant seem to find one suitable for Buffalo WHR-G54S on the download page. icon_question.gif

No problem on v24 RC4 for me. You probably didn't switch your router off/clean NVRAM after flashing it, as older versions might have the memory leak and it got transferred (those pesky loop commands might still be running ya know).

About Tomato, I tried it before, didn't like it much. Lacks certain functions which is extremely useful for me. Plus dd-wrt has a broader hardware range.

Btw, I can never be sure whether QoS (for both firmwares) even works or not. I must say cFosSpeed works well with its QoS, loving it. Playing counter-strike with low pings while torrent is on full speed. biggrin.gif
