Does the WRT54GL support the Sveasoft Alchemy firmware? Or does the latest DD-WRT firmware support whatever Sveasoft Alchemy supports already? Specifically, I'm looking for two features:
(1) AP Client mode where you can do wireless ethernet bridging (2) WDS
Also, does the WRT54GL use the RP-TNC connectors for its detachable antenna, the same as the WRT54G, or has Linksys changed it to the RP-SMA type?
Thanks!

QUOTE(azmihamzah @ Feb 6 2007, 04:39 AM) Lowyat Plaza 3th floor, go to KSNetwork. They sell at rm45 each. But, i can get it cheaper from them... Thanks for the info again. I've made up my mind to get one of these WRT54GLs. Where's the best place (in terms of pricing) to get them in LowYat Plaza, and what is the price I should expect to pay now?

QUOTE(azmihamzah @ Feb 6 2007, 07:38 PM) OK, if i am correct in reading your mind... WRT54GL = rm239 from Robust Network AirWave -8.5dBi high-gain antenna (N-type connector) bundle with 1m N-type to SMA cable + SMA to TNC converter = rm350 (best price from KSNetwork) but u have to bargain a bit... Yep, that's the price I paid for the router. RM 245 with credit card. Cheapest in LowYat so far, when I went shopping yesterday. Bought the TNC-RP-SMA connector/adapter also. Flashed it to the latest version of DD-WRT already. With WRT54GL v1.1, you can flash directly to the standard version without any problems, without having to flash it to the mini version first as the firmware can take firmware files above 3Mb. Managed to configure it as a AP client as well, connecting multiple PCs/notebooks to the LAN ports to "share" one wireless connection. The only complaint is that the stock antenna are too weak. The receive sensitivity of the chipset is also far below what I've been accustomed to - only -80dbm at 1Mbps. I'm more accustomed to having my wireless cards having -94dbm at 1Mbps Added on February 7, 2007, 2:35 pmHas anyone who is familiar with the client mode of DD-WRT managed to connect it to a wireless router that has SSID cloaking on (ie. the SSID is hidden)? I read that the older Sveasoft Alchemy firmware does not support connecting to a hidden SSID; I am looking for confirmation whether DD-WRT allows this before I go off experimenting and getting unnecessarily frustrated! QUOTE(azmihamzah @ Feb 8 2007, 03:28 AM) It might work if you are using WDS, because it only need MAC configuration on WDS setting and both need to use same channel. It will work on different SSID, but i'm not sure about cloaking setting. I will try this when i got some spare time. added : yeah it works in SSID cloaking (disable the SSID broadcast) ...confirm, but i'm not sure if ppl can see it as "NO SSID" when they try to scan the available AP from their laptop. Thanks for the info. Are you talking about the setup working in WDS (I know this works) or if the WRT54GL is set in AP client mode? I'm asking this because as part of the AP client setup process, the final step is to "scan" for APs to join, and if the WRT54GL can't see a cloaked AP, then it can't join what's not there, right? Or will keying in the SSID name of the cloaked network name be sufficient for the WRT54GL to join the network? Of course if you cloak the SSID, no one will be able to see what the SSID is unless they know it's there That's the purpose of SSID cloaking - to deter casual hackers!

DD-WRT RC4 now runs on DLink's DIR 300 wireless router. See my post here. It's a pain to flash the DIR 300 but worth it. No going back though.

QUOTE(isMEheNG @ Oct 16 2007, 05:25 PM) I'm using WRT54GL V1.1~A forumer advice me use the dd-wrt.v24_std_generic.bin~ so the steps are 1.) flash dd-wrt.v24_mini_generic.bin 2.) flash the std_generic.bin ? Thanks When I got my WRT54GL 1.1 I flashed it straight to the generic version without the crap of having to flash to the mini/micro edition first. I believe the WRT54GL has sufficient memory to do the flashing straight away to the generic version.

QUOTE(teikwing @ Oct 26 2007, 07:37 PM) so this is a known issue for Buffallo WHR-54GS? what's the possibility of bricking it when flashing to DDWRT? i'm kinda worried but was left with no choice since it always hang across some period of time. there are 2 DDWRT FW for it, v23 sp2 standard & v23 sp2 special final. which on should i choose? thanks. EDIT : @ dd-wrt.com, its instructions in flashing to DDWRT included a step where u need to change the router's IP address to 192.168.1.1. would my WHR54GS conflict with the Aztech DSL600E (modem) since both share the same IP address? My advice is that if you do not understand the instructions, you'd better avoid it. Better to stick with a 90% functioning router than one which is completely bricked. Having said that, I've updated two WHR-54G-HP without problems. First time I did it, I took a chance of bricking the router since I wasn't completely clear on the instructions on doing it.
