Have you guys discuss before about creating an owners list in this thread so that we know how many people owns the MacBook Pro / RD /Air?

I spoke to a Machines sales person recently and he said so far only 2-3 people buy MacBook Pro Retina display from his shop....Hmm, I'm surprised to hear such a small quantity of MacBook Pro Retina display buyers.

No surprise really. As Apple Store Malaysia is very efficient at handling purchases, I don't see any reason for people to buy from local resellers, especially if:-
- stock shortage period (when rMBP first came out)
- CTO models of MBA / MBP / rMBP
- hassle free. no need to travel, just order online and wait for stock to arrive.
- education pricing
- 14-day 1-to-1 exchange

Ooops. Perhaps it's just 10 days exchange policy only. It's not no questions asked. It's more like a DOA (Dead on Arrival) warranty.

Cannot fully goyang kaki though. tongue.gif
Since they normally ship during office hours, you can choose to collect at DHL centre or may need to take leave in order to be there to collect it, unless there are others in your office / home that can collect on behalf. Thought I wouldn't trust any of my office's staff to collect on behalf. laugh.gif

Yes u can upgrade the ssd by urself its just a custom design ssd company like owc makes them but i dont c anyone in malaysia carry them. It looks like this. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/OWC/Aura_Pro_Air_2012

I run abode before on my air its ok for light editing but then again mine was a core2duo version. I would imagine it will run very hot if u use final cut pro though...

Try this, "The Unarchiver". Download from Appstore, it's free and support a lot of other compression formats.

Or direct download from developer's site.

Received mine yesterday thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

So far nothing's wrong with it.
How many of you apply a screen protector for your RMBP?
Since apple has came out with the announcement of the palm guard, would it be the same for screen protector??

You don't need a screen protector for your screen since it's not a touch screen.

And the screen protector will increase the thickness of the screen area and might cause ur rMBP to not close properly.

My 2 cents. biggrin.gif

You can read all about it in the official Apple Forum. Link below :

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/403484...t=4605&tstart=0

300 pages of complaints. Majority with LG screens have image retention or burn in issues. They said it can happen anytime immediately or 2-3 months down the road and it will only get worse.

Google Macbook Pro Retina Display ghosting / burn in problems and you will know all about it.

Hope you got a good screen. I'm waiting for my Macbook Pro RD to arrive. Tension nya

Oops, my bad. I didn't realise yours is a MacBook Air. The image retention problems I mentioned is only for Retina Display MBP. So, you have nothing to worry about.
Enjoy your MacBook Air.

just got my rmbp.. replying this message on my rmbp..

i have a LG screen and I've tested it does have an IR issue.. not going to bother much right now as I doubt I ever going to leave my screen still for over 15 mins.. plus I don't do a lot of graphics processing..

I will only bother when it has dead pixels.. so far so good..none existed..

cheers

You can check if you have an LCD built by LG by running this command:
ioreg -lw0 | grep \"EDID\" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

Result should be something like this:
Color LCD
LP154WT1-SJA1
If one of the codes starts with LP, then it’s an LG screen.

Oh, lol I thought you mean Apple Online Store. When we say Apple Store usually we regard it as the online store because in Malaysia there's no official Apple Store, only official retailer or reseller here.

Apple says that we cannot apply palm guard or it might damage the screen. I guess it's the same with screen protector. Apple claimed the the MacBook Pro Retina display has very little tolerance, hence we shouldn't put any film in between screen and keypad.

The fact that Apple can put this kind of warning is scary. Will they void the warranty if they can find traces of palm guard or screen protector applied before.

Looks like I have to use it without any protection.

Anyway, my MBP RD should be arriving in the next 2-3 days. Can't wait.....

All I can say is all these palm guards, screen and keyboard protectors are a waste of money... The most important thing is how you take care and handle your Mac.

I have my mid-2010 15" MacBook Pro for more than 2 years, carrying it around for work and leisure. Surprisingly it still looks new. Why...? Because I'm a careful and detailed person. Once in a while I would just get a cloth and wipe the exterior and the screen. Pop out the back cover and vacuum the interior.

There's nothing can be done on the plasticky keyboard, over time it will just look washed out. Put it on you risk sticking it onto the screen. Type it on, you can't see the tactile keyboard. So why keyboard protector...? As for palm guard, you worry about leaving residue on the palm area, so you're back to square one. So why waste money...?

Don't even get me started with screen protectors. Wanna reduce reflection, go BTO and get the anti-glare option. rMBP has already got its screen glare reduced by over 70%

Granted the electronic circuitry inside my MBP is beat up, no thanks to my nasty hobby of crunching 24/7, physically it's still in pristine condition. I've only use an el-cheapo sleeve to put the MBP onto my bag for travel. No scratches or dents whatsoever, not even the bottom part.

You have to pay RM30 annual membership fee.
But they have promotions every month.

Example, I bought Microsoft Office 2011 Business Edition at RM699 instead of normal retail price of RM780. Save RM81 more than membership fee.

Once I receive my MBP in 2-3 days time, I'll buy the ACPP at RM 999 instead of RM1199. Save another RM200.

On your birthday month, you will get RM50 voucher.

Every Ringgit you spend in Machines shop gives you points which can exchange for voucher.

Not a bad deal.

Oh right. Can I apply for the membership online? The stupid reseller worker did not inform me this when I enquired about the Microsoft package few times on desperate days and attended by separate promoters

If my birthday is next month, it is advisable for me to apply for a membership right now? Any expiry on the points and RM50 voucher as I only plan to get the extra protection next year.

Why do u all Buy the Mac from online instead of getting from the shop and thus can get it on the spot?

Can advise me on the charging issue which I raised that-whether do we have to plug in the cable everytime even if we r at home and the batt is full? Or once full, detach and recharge it when batt is empty? Worrying about the batt lift span.

Ordered from netherland, including shipping around 500. Its genuine leather so it does stretch i would imagine if u got a hard case and put it in it will adjust.

500? Faint. Can't afford. Anyhow my worry by force inserting the Mac air which has a hard case in it wil spoil the cover.

treat the thick cables? dont need any treatment actually. and its quite durable, so just rolling it in a bunch and carrying it everywhere you want to bring it wud not be a problem.

about the charging, i just leave my mbp plugged in most of the time when i am at home. den when i do bring it out and its on battery, i just make sure i try to use up as much of the battery that i can before letting it charge again.
but to honest, im not the one that shud be advising about battery, cos mine seems to be holding quite lil charge. well it is, 3years old already.

Yea, Haswell with GT3 GPU core, benchmark shows double the performance of HD4000 slurppppp wub.gif
But the CPU unit is bigger than Ivy Bridge, and the price is definitely much higher due to higher production cost tongue.gif

In terms of spec the air is definitely better even the base model. The XPS is still using older processor while the air is updated with the latest ivy bridge. Shape i personally find the dell a bit too dull.

Maybe u should drop by a dell and apple showroom and compare them? If u bootcamp u can use the air just like a normal pc as well. biggrin.gif

U mean wipe the win partition? If u mean that then yes. It's best to do a time backup first so u can just restore to a clean setup.

how do i know if it is a lion or mountain lion? looking at the version?

dudes here, have 2 Q to ask
1. why is it everytime when i start my mac, Excel will auto pop up (note: i did not tick restart with windows when I off my mac)

2. backup-everytime when we need to do a backup, we just click back up and the system will auto detect the difference between the old backup and the updated version and only update the latest version?

My backup has timestamp so u can choose which one to restore to. It deletes the oldest one on ur backup drive once the drive is full.

say for example 1st back up is 16.10.2012. i decide to back up on 17.10.2012. When I do the back up on 17.10.2012, will the system re-back up the entire files including that of 16.10.2012 or it will only back up those portion that has changed since then?

following your answer, how do we do the restoration and how to "acess" to the timestamp?

Yes, thanks for the confirmation. Now I need to buy an external harddisk and setup time machine first.

Thanks again

dudes here, have 2 Q to ask
1.  why is it everytime when i start my mac, Excel will auto pop up (note: i did not tick restart with windows when I off my mac)
When you exit Excel, did you just click on the Red button to exit or at the Menu Bar Click Excel/ then click quit Excel?

Try the latter.

And upgrading at white box resellers are also not advisable because of cost. They will charge you through the nose.

The only macbook that you can upgrade or change the hard disk now is the pro 13" and pro 15". The Air, rMBP, either you do it at the apple store or try and get replacement part from Apple specialist website like OWC.

I will use my iPad even though I have my rmbp with me around. iPad's still more convenient to carry in hand, especially when you ave to put it on your lap or hold it, ie living room sofa. I play music at home using AirPlay also most of the time at home through my Zeppelin Air. On the go, iPad is my main music player as the output impedance is superb low resulting in best sound without using a external DAC.

Hi everyone. Im currently using a macbook pro mid 2010 i5 model with gt330m. My mbp is having random kernel panics whenever i open apps. After googling i found out it was because of the automatic graphic switching feature in lion onwards causing the problem.

Issue is, fairlw new mbp cannot restore back to older versions of snow leopard and i do not have the installation cd for my mbp. I anyone can help me out with either problem itll be great

mid 2010 MacBook Pro from Apr 2010 to Feb 2011 was way before Lion was introduced and the disc-less installs. It should come with Snow Leopard DVD.... I have the same mid-2010 15" MacBook Pro i7 that came with the DVDs.

Automatic graphics switching is also on Snow Leopard, I don't see that could be a Lion-only problem.

Am I correct to assume you got this second hand and the seller sold you this MBP without Snow Leopard DVD and instead pre-installed Lion for you...?

Call AppleCare 1 800 803 638, or one of the local AASPs might be able to help you out...

RAM is something that you won't mind having more. If you have the budget to spare get 8GB or 16GB. Especially RMBP where you can't upgrade the RAM in the future, go for maximum 16GB if you can.

Just my 2 cents

my mba is locked down with 4GB ram... should hit the 8GB button prior... anyway lets see and wait how its goes...

Added on October 20, 2012, 10:46 pmand... typing on mba feels the best compare of any laptop i ever used, included asus zenbook prime... the touchpad is the nicest of all, i know this is facts but the feeling is so real and so deep into heart

anyway another thing is dont know just me or what, some of the keys when you press it too fast or not press at the centre , it will give annoying high pitch sound... any of you got that problem?

Are you using Lion or ML?

1. Did you accidentally set your excel to open at login? Right click Excel dock icon > Options > Open at Login.
2. See: System Preferences > Users and Groups > Login Items?
3. When you shut down your mac, did u uncheck "reopen windows when logging back in"?
4. Try check/uncheck: System Preferences > General > "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps" (Lion) or "Close windows when quitting an app" (ML)

thanks for your help dude.

i solved it by using this option.

just wanna check for my office, when i click online registration, it says i dont have to do it.

but when i click purchase option, i still have to key in the product key. but the product is already licensed to me.

why is that so?

is there anyway that i could find the product key? (nb: this is a gift from my fren when i got it office was already installed in it).

Super Duper is good to clone the whole hdd out as a backup which then can be use as a boot up as well.

using power adaptor doesnt mean it will charge the battery.
once the indicator turns to green, it wont be charging.
your mac will be using power source to power the laptop

If you dont do it too often, its fine, sometimes situation like this is unavoidable.

Apple event - just simply google, many result and live coverage available that you can watch online, its about the launching of the MBP 13 retina, new Mine, new iMac....

not advisable, in long term it could damage it because apple's battery goes by charge cycles

So, usually when do you start charging the MBP?
At what battery percentage? 20%? 10%?

1 battery cycle is 1 100% charge... not charge one time consider 1 charge cycle...

for example if you charge from 50% to 100%, is 0.5 cycle only, next time you charge 50% to 100% again only consider 1 charge cycle... correct me if i am wrong...

have read about it and some research about charging batt.
it does not address whether we should leave the battery charging whenever we can or leave it uncharged

eg: 100%. bring it to work leaving 80%. should we finish 80% then only charge or continue to charge it.

I did have the same problem back in Mountain Lion but the problem was only present on 10.8.0... 10.8.1 should have solved the problem. Mine wasn't that serious enough to cause kernel panics, only graphics distortion and blue hues, rectified by a restart.

Mine will just go blank screen and forced to restart.
I tried restoring to Lion, Mountain Lion whatever version.
Doesnt work. Its a hardware issue so I dont think software changes can solve this.

i was waiting for the 13" retina display MBP. when Apple release the first retina display 17" MBP, i have faith they will also produce for the 13" class.. and they did..

but, various things to reconsider..

obviously, stunning display, faster overall performance, and sexy slim chassis! drool.gif

but, low storage, no built in superdrive.. and remarkably (<<Apple fav word) higher price that the non-retina model. considering practicality vs. damage cause to wallet, i'm turning into very slim chance to get this 13" retina MBP. laugh.gif but the desire is very strong. blush.gif

arghh rclxub.gif money got no value nowadays isn't it.. LOL

Depends on what model you get. If its one of the more popular ones, probably by now they have new stocks.

If not, they will still try and finish all the old Lion stocks. A reseller here in Seremban stil have a lot of Lion stocks, even for the Retina version.

Hi,

Need some help here.

Anyone of you using Autocad LT 2013 for Mac software on your Macbook Pro RD running Mountain Lion?

I have been asking the resellers, distributors etc to check whether the Autocad LT 2013 for Mac is compatible with latest Mountain Lion but can't seem to get a definitive answer.

I don't want to spend RM4500+ and later discover the software is not compatible!!! Pengsan sweat.gif

Thanks

I ordered my MBP RD from Machines with customised specs to 16GB Ram in September. Took 3 weeks to get it after booking. It comes with Mountain Lion preinstalled.

So if you book now, definitely you will get Mountain Lion.

You will probably get Lion only if you buy standard specs because they could be old stock circulating around since July or August....

*
Went to check at apple reseller store in Bangsar. They said I can't apply for the membership. I can only become a member after spending RM300. Also. there is no birthday voucher of RM50 and no points for APP. Can advise bro?

Also wana check if I just wana apply the membership for tr sake of puchasing APP only, worth it?

Any expiry date for The bday voucher Thanks.

Duh..! Anyway, My old MBP are not responsive to anything anymore. (Basically can't type, screen hang now and then, shift key always on and etc..) So they decide to replace it for me since it's not fair for me to keep sending the macbook to repair all the time. Plus there are some other reason which i can't disclose here. smile.gif

In Finders/ Preferences/ Advanced/ , there is an option "Empty Trash Securely".

Do you guys "tick" this option? Is it recommended to do so?

Are you referring to the birthday vouchers? I haven't received mine yet (akan datang), so I'm not sure what I can buy.

I will ask again later when I receive it in a few months time. But if I remembered correctly, you can use it to buy stuffs in the Machines outlet.

Maybe you can ask the Machines sales staff before you join the membership to be certain smile.gif

I personally don't find Macbook Pro 13" retina justify the price. I still love my late 2011 13", it is already extremely fast for mobile purpose. Who would get a basic 13" size and do heavy and serious works on the go? I mean with my SSD, Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Autocad, all already run so fast and the non retina screen already look so beautiful.

Sat down really hard to compare the Retina 13" and normal 13" yesterday. Few observation.

1. Keyboard on the retina sucks. I mean, its the same feeling as if you are using the Air (no offense), little travel that makes hammering our long documents a chore to me. I like the spring on the classics better.

2. Screen is nicer on the retina 13, and Apple allocates 768MB for Intel HD4000 probably for it to perform better at the higher resolution. No gaming though. Intel HD4000 chokes even with 512MB you get when you upgrade your ram on the classic.

3. 5299 = 128GB SSD. My pictures already 30GB worth. And the only one making replacements are OWC

it's not loading problem, all images already loaded, just when i scroll through them, it will lag a bit, smooth scroll a bit then lag a bit... not sure how to describe. never install other browser to try whether is it safari problem or wat. anyway, i can live with it for now, it doesn't occur always, only sometimes.

my safari is slow until i did this.

QUOTE
Pages that used to load in 2 seconds now took 15-30 seconds or didn't load at all.  After trying different steps on my own, I finally called Apple support this morning.  These are the steps the Apple tech had me perform:
1.  In Safari, go to prefences and remove Cookies, then Develop menu, and empty caches.
2.  Shut down the machine and unplug it for one full minute.  This resets  the SMC.
3.  Start up in safe mode (hold shift key after hitting power button until you see the apple icon on screen) then go to Utilities folder in Applications and open Disk Utility.  Select Mac HD on left, then Verify Disk.  When Verify Disk is completed,  click on Verify Permissions.  After completing this step, if any permission problems are listed, click on Repair Permissions.
4.  Shut down the computer, and start up while holding 4 keys at the same time; Option, Command, P, and R.  Hold these keys down until you hear the computer chime twice.  This step resets the PRAM.
After doing these steps, my computer now functions as fast as it did in Lion.  Apple support is really great!  I hope these steps help you too.  Good luck!

got my 15 rmbp last week . however i just noticed that the delete (backspace) button is a little stiff on the right side. is that normal or is it just me. ?

haven't have time to test out other macbooks outside :/

Added on November 4, 2012, 7:04 pmah.. solved it. i guess it was something stuck under the key, "pulled' out the key a little bit and blew in some air.

baseline might not more than 3k or lesser... you can try your luck... no actual market price, just the demand and how much you willing to sell... lower = sell faster...

selling a mac not easy as selling ipad or iphone...

I just checked. It is on. but why is it that it still fails to block some of the pop-ups?

anyway to block it?

I tot Mac is good in all these and hence, no antivirus is required to be installed? if pop-ups are not able to be blocked what more virus/spy software? hmm

whats wrong with pop ups?
just close and dont click it.
spy software needs to be installed, when you install a software it needs your password rclxub.gif

sometime u may not know that the pop ups are there. If u perform some transaction when it is there, there is a likelyhood that some hackers may be able to spy from there.
spy software exists without installation.
I stand to be corrected.

For ACPP, you can extend it in any period within validity of your original 1 year warranty. If the 1 year expired, there's no way you can extend it with ACPP anymore. So to answer your immediate questioned :-
a) for the ACPP do i use finished the 1st year from i bought the laptop den after that i only buy ACPP
Answer : You should extend it before your 1st year end.
b)or i str8 activate ACPP after i buy the laptop?
Answer : Yes, you can do that and you get Apple Support throughout your full 3 years waranty, instead of 90 days before extend with ACPP.

I am planning to get the MBA soon but I am not expert in running Mac software. So I plan to install Win7 and all softwares running in Win 7 such as Offices and Autocad and Games might be.

My questions how good MBA running with Win7 or same as windows notebook or difficulties in term of lagging, stabilize or etc?

Determine what software that you really need to use. If more than 80% are on Windows and no alternatives are available on OS X, probably would be best if you actually use a Windows machine. blink.gif .

As for lagging or not, well, it does function as normal, but you do know that the air is an ultrabook proc, right?

Yeah, if you are the type to travel then the Air would help you a lot, but as I have said, just make sure that you look at the alternatives also.

if using parallel desktop 8 i think it will be smooth but cannot compare to native windows laptop... if bootcamp i think you can convert your laptop to windows but if like that why you buy mac laptop... not sure about vmware 5 i guess is like PD8 but cheaper...

not sure about alternative but 1 thing very sure mac book air not for gaming

if you not ready for mac, you can always look to windows laptop way more powerful and cheaper...

anyway for travel alot and performance and if you need mba, get mba 11, 8GB, core i7... else there is much more alternatives....

They probably buy at US retail price + shipping, then further jack it up for profit... They claimed to be official distributor, so I checked with OWC directly. OWC said they were only a reseller. Simply Mac from SG is the largest reseller of OWC products in this region.

Buying directly from US is cheaper of course, BUT any RMA or warranty claims can only be done directly with OWC in the US, not with local reseller. If buy from reseller, warranty deal with reseller.

DOA period means if something happen upon arrival, i must send it back via post or just visit any authorised reseller for a change?

plus, if I want to buy with the faculty staff package, do i need to send them my staff number or whatnot? thanks!

if you buy from reseller, most of them wouldnt let you to claim DOA if theres a burn in screen.
they'll just help you to claim warranty.
theres always more advantage when purchasing from Apple directly.

Hi guys, I just purchased the rMBP 13 from Apple Store and will be arriving on Monday. I've been a PC guy for my whole life and now I'm switching to Mac. Want to know if any of you guys has any wraps to protect the aluminium case besides using a hard case?

30 day refund is only applicable to US or other market... in bolehland you cant even change on the spot if the device you buy is not DOA

Consumer right act not for Asia. Even in Korea u cannot exchange or refund it unless its defected unit.

Too many ppl abuse it even in New Zealand we got a lot of ppl buying stuff just to have a play with it and return it in a few days.

Called the Apple Care. and apparently Apple office is in Singapore. A Singaporean called me and was being helpful to ask his superior whether I can get an exemption and get the DHL man to pick up my rMBP since its still sealed and unopened. But I guess the appeal failed because hours later he called me back from Singapore and said that it cannot be done. oh FML.

I just sit around 45min at mamak with wifi watching youtube and bluetooth connected to my headset listening to itunes, brightness 100% the battery drops 20% already from 100%. and thats i5 model. i wonder i7 can stand that long.

I dont think it can last 5hrs like Apple claimed.

Apple's claimed battery hour is 7 hours of wireless web browsing.
only web browsing (not even running flash) and brightness is at 50%

I just bought my sleeve at Joli Originals. The quality is top notch and the owners Joli and Harold have been very informative and helpful in answering my questions. Maybe you should go to their website and have a look. The price is quite expensive compared to other kind of sleeves but I felt that it is worth it for such quality workmanship and material.

You can follow the instructions here to solve the multiple app problem:

http://macs.about.com/od/usingyourmac/qt/r...m-open-with.htm

Also, once you completed the Terminal command ... remember to RELAUNCH your Finder by:

I heard the new Parallel Desktop 8 has tons of irritating Ads that keep showing even if you bought the full version (not only in trial version) ... is that true? Have they resolved that problem?

Hi all!

Am a Microsoft user all this while and am planning to get a MBA either 11 @ 13 and am concern on the followings..

1) what programme recommended to 'replace' Microsoft Office (Words, Excel, Power Point) that's compatible without the need to buy the Microsoft Office which costs RM4++..

2) what connectors needed for mounting printer, projectors, LAN.. and all the basic Office network needs.. (where can i get it? is original a must?)

I saw most people are using the MBP which comes with most of the mountings but if possible, i prefer MBA as it's easier to carry around. I like MBA as to compared to ASUS's ultra-thin book.

Thanks for your advice and guidelines.

1. You can use Apple's version of Office suites called iLife '09 (I think they need to upgrade this soon .. this was last released back in 2009). They have:

KeyNote - Powerpoint
Numbers - Excel
Pages - Word

However, the above is not really compatible with the MS Office files ... so for serious Office dwellers ... I think it would be worthwhile to purchase MS Office for Mac for 99% compatibility.

Other software to consider:

OmniPlan - MS Project
OmniGraffle - MS Visio

There are also many Mail client out there which you can choose from ... but nothing close to Outlook

2. Printers ? Macbook air can do AirPrint (WIFI) or USB printing ... no problems there (unless you want a parallel port .. that would be a problem). Projectors ... you need to get the MiniDisplay/ThunderBolt to VGA/HDMI/DisplayPort ... it's an external dongle that you need to purchase. LAN ... you need to rely on Wifi or get a USB <> LAN or Thunderbolt <> Gigabit dongle. Since the mBA is so thin .. everything is external.

*
Thank you so much for the info. That's what holds me back since some time ago. Will consider your suggestions. Thanks again!

so far after install all those photo and video editing program, it only takes up 50GB of my space.
still got a healthy 200GB left... what's not enough?
most stuff i kept in external HDD (planning to move them to NAS soon so i can access all files wirelessly).
easier for backup and bring them along whenever i go.

If you're worried about storage ... you could always bump up the SSD to 512 GB ... or get this:

Just to ask to ask owners of MBA 2012 with 4GB RAM, do you always frequently notice Page Out in Activity Monitor with your daily usage on Mountain Lion?

Thanks.

THere isn't any slot for a normal notebook lock for the Macbook Air unfortunately ... you will need to get a docking lock or some proprietary solutions out there in the market.

Kensington themselves makes the docking lock: http://www.kensington.com/kensington/us/us...keyed-lock.aspx

Alternatively .. there is the MacLock: http://maclocks.com/imac-locks/macbookairlock-11.html

1. Install windows on your mba via parallel or bootcamp then use your favorite windows software.

2. Printing and projector can be done via network in the office

I was just running through the user guide from: http://www.fujixeroxprinters.com.au/downlo...nglish_7be5.pdf

I think there are some instructions on Page 104 which you can try to see if the printing works ... unfortunately this is not an AirPrint printer .. otherwise the configuration would have been much simpler ... try updating to latest printer driver as well.

This was only for the Fuji Xerox .. I haven't looked at the Ricoh printer yet ...

you have to change the format of the HDD, either ExFat or HFS+
you can google the differences and advantages

Of course bootcamp is better performance but parallel you dont need to reboot. Trust me you dont feel any lag also with parallel. Look what have i done

You can download trial version of parallel 8 from app store and try it out for 2 weeks. Have fun

Your WD Passport is by default using NTFS. So technically you can't write onto it unless you reformat it as what BRY recommend you to do. But if you don't wanna format it and wanna use NTFS on both system, then another way is to Purchase NTFS for Mac. NTFS MAC Paragon . Seagate Use that to do a cross platform read-write on their External HD product, but unfortunately does not upgrade it to get it compatible with ML.

Another choice is Tuxera for reading/writing NTFS formatted hard disk. It costs 25 Euros though, more expensive than paragon.

Top up to 8G RAM. Didn't move from i5 to i7 because according to reviews i5 actually works better in clamshell mode

im using the free one. the paid one is the powerpack add-on. more actions and got itunes miniplayer, nothing really important to me

so far anything spotlight can do, alfred can do (feels faster to me). can customize to search for wikipedia, google image, etc. dictionary is better since u can read the whole description (spotlight can only read a few words then u need to launch the Dictionary app)

Thanks,

That link helped me a lot on deciding the processor.

How about the RAM any difference when you're using 8gb compared to 4gb?

Yes, 8G is a must if you plan to do multi-tasking and keeping your laptop for a long time.

Also, its only an extra RM200 i think.

So which processor are you going with?

If you use the macbook air 2012, it comes with 2 USB 3.0 ports. Im currently connecting a 4 port logitech 2.0 USB hub to 1 of the Macbook Air 3.0 port.

All 4 ports WILL get USB 2.0 speeds (without the need to connect a separate power adapter to the logitech hub)

So any USB 2.0 hub can be used to connect your 2 external hard drives.

If you need USB 3.0 speeds, then you can buy a USB 3.0 hub which is very expensive at the moment.

is urs a usb 2.0 external drive? if yes, then a usb 2.0 hub (without extra power adapter) will work.

if it is a usb 3.0 external drive, then you will only get usb 2.0 speeds.

To any mbpr owner, just a word of advice! If your screen have ghosting/bun in/ image retention, feel not hesitate to go ask for a screen replacement! A Long negotiation with AppleCare I manage to get my LCD panel replaced and it's a Samsung screen (previously LG) after 1 hours of testing there are no sign of IR ! Don't let them fool you that IR screen is within the spec!

Ps. A happy MBPR user here =]

Just purchased 2x Kingston 8GB DDR3 1600MHz at NOVA here in Taiwan. It's so hard to find other brands except Kingston and Transcend. Actually I wanted to buy Kingston Apple RAM but there's no stock everywhere, and I meant anywhere.

I'm surprised to see that it is able to run at the full 1600MHz on MBap 13' 2011. I thought it will downclock to 1333MHz.

I'm actually running memtest at the moment of writing this post. Testing for 2 runs now and so fall it passed all the test. Will let it run overnight and see how it turned out tomorrow. Cheers.

UPDATE: It passed all the tests, or at least the standard 2 pass. Unfortunately it is only able to test a portion of RAM (12GB) instead of the full 16GB since I'm running it on OS. Anyone know how to create a usb boot disk for memtestx86 (http://www.memtest.org) so that I can boot it before booting up the OS? P/S: I don't have any CD/DVD drive. sad.gif

Not necessary ... software provider sometimes do not like to put their apps on the App Store because the App Store doesn't allow for "Trial/Preview" versions ... you have to pay first to download ... also, because Apple have restriction on the App Store, there are certain apps that are not allowed as well.

How do you expire the Lite version? The main concern is trial ware is meant to expire after certain number of days of usage .... a Lite version simply gives the software feature for free .. and limiting certain functions in the software doesn't exactly allow the user to try out the software in a proper manner ....
