Have you guys discuss before about creating an owners list in this thread so that we know how many people owns the MacBook Pro / RD /Air?

I spoke to a Machines sales person recently and he said so far only 2-3 people buy MacBook Pro Retina display from his shop....Hmm, I'm surprised to hear such a small quantity of MacBook Pro Retina display buyers.
*
No surprise really. As Apple Store Malaysia is very efficient at handling purchases, I don't see any reason for people to buy from local resellers, especially if:-
- stock shortage period (when rMBP first came out)
- CTO models of MBA / MBP / rMBP
- hassle free. no need to travel, just order online and wait for stock to arrive.
- education pricing
- 14-day 1-to-1 exchange

Do we have the 14 days exchange policy here in Malaysia? No questions asked exchange?

Ooops. Perhaps it's just 10 days exchange policy only. It's not no questions asked. It's more like a DOA (Dead on Arrival) warranty.

Cannot fully goyang kaki though. tongue.gif
Since they normally ship during office hours, you can choose to collect at DHL centre or may need to take leave in order to be there to collect it, unless there are others in your office / home that can collect on behalf. Thought I wouldn't trust any of my office's staff to collect on behalf. laugh.gif

So far nothing's wrong with it.
How many of you apply a screen protector for your RMBP?
Since apple has came out with the announcement of the palm guard, would it be the same for screen protector??
rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif
*
You don't need a screen protector for your screen since it's not a touch screen.

And the screen protector will increase the thickness of the screen area and might cause ur rMBP to not close properly.

My 2 cents. biggrin.gif

Hi guys.

How's everybody doing? biggrin.gif

Long time didn't post here since been so busy with work.

Been loving my RMBP 15" since I got it back in July 2012 right after launch.

Now waiting for the next Apple WWDC for the next generation MacBooks. Hopefully there's an even lighter Retina MacBook for me to upgrade to. A design improvement would be very welcome as well. thumbup.gif

If it's just performance improvements from the Haswell chipset, then guess I will keep my current RMBP 15" for another year since the performance is flawless for my needs and no slowdowns in apps, except maybe for some graphic renderings.

5-5.5k depending on the condition.

Check whether the screen has image retention problem or not. Normally LG screens exhibit this defect, and Samsung screens do not.

IMHO, there will not be a retina display for MBA, not for now at least.

Just think, who in their right mind is ever going to buy their MacBook Pro 13" Retina anymore if they released a MBA Retina?

Simple, right?

Also, if the MBA Retina did come out, trust me it's gonna cost a LOT more than even the MBP Retina due to compactness.

Simple logic.

If you want a Retina display, just go for the MBP Retina models, and no need to dream of a cheap MBA Retina. smile.gif

Exactly guys! Good points noted especially on the processors, heat, and batteries! thumbup.gif

But to be honest, the MacBook Air Retina is ALREADY HERE lah!

-->> MacBook Pro 13" Retina = MacBook Air Retina 13"
-->> MacBook Pro 15" Retina = MacBook Air Retina 15"

Seriously, some people just need to grasp REALITY. Even in many other Apple forums, people are still 'praying' for a MBA Retina. laugh.gif

MacBook Air is Apple's LOWEST end of MacBooks now, and is in their value-for-money range.

Even the colour gamut quality in the MBA (you can notice washed out colours) is weaker than MacBook Pro (non-retina) despite having higher resolution.

Why? Because MBAs are priced low, and good displays are expensive.

LOL, but seriously, MBA 11" portability n its slim built is unrivalled, which is y its really hard to see a RETINA display in it without sacrificing its compactness.. Which brings back to the point of getting a MBA -- its ease of carrying around..
*
Haha. Just stating the facts, bro. And having a MBA 11" is rich-fag lah, bro. Not everyone can even afford that like your good self. blush.gif rclxms.gif

Yes, totally agree on portability wise for MBA. Nothing beats it, not even anything from Windows laptop camp. But like what you said earlier, unless there's a significant technological advancement in battery size / efficiency and CPU / GPU size / power / heat, the MBAs and MBPRs will still be where they are for now. nod.gif

Simple Logic > Rumours

Seriously, tell me, how is Apple going to sell their MacBook Pro Retina 13" if there is really a new so-called MBA Retina?

Or will they just cancel the MBPR and sell the MBA Retina - if this is the case, expect the MBA Retina to be at least double the price of your current MBA.

just wait and see..as for battery usage, they claim that the haswell chip can save up to 50% and maybe that will compensate on retina display

again, less than 2 weeks to go  cool2.gif

Yes, as I've said earlier, if this is indeed true, then the MacBook Pro Retina 13 (and maybe 15) will be the first and last of their kind. However, if battery improvements are really there, I'm hoping they maintain the capacity so we can achieve 16-20 hour battery. nod.gif

Most probably a very big NO to that. CD / DVD / Bluray are getting very much less popular now. You don't even see it in the Windows Ultrabooks. And it will be a big problem to maintaining the slim profile. Last but not least, you can always use a USB optical drive to solve the issue, and you can bring it with you whenever you want if you want to travel light / heavy. smile.gif

I would love, however, if Apple added in more USB ports, better cooling system, and better speakers. thumbup.gif

After watching that, I wished if only there's an all-BLACK anodized version of the MBPR 15". sad.gif
Maybe Apple could suprise us in the coming WWDC. biggrin.gif

Other than that, the Razer laptop is not the least bit interesting to me:-
- Battery life just a pathetic 'up to 6 hours', and this is likely for normal use only (maybe even with WIFI turned off).
- Poor screen resolution (not even Full HD?)
- Nothing mentioned on Screen QUALITY - like IPS / TN, Viewing Angles, Colour Gamut, Anti-Glare %, etc. So we would assume a sub-standard screen present
- No backlit Razer logo on the lid (Come on, man! tongue.gif)
- No mention that the trackpad is made of glass (Plastic feels crap)
- Black aluminium is a SCRATCH magnet
- Poor Razer reputation on durability and reliability makes this an unworthy investment unless Razer has proven themselves (give them a few years at least if this is mass-marketed).
- 'Rojak' internals as a thin laptop is referenced to Apple's MacBooks and this looks rather horrendous in the inside (again, reliability is questioned).

I do like the nVidia GTX765m graphics chip though, but we will see what Apple has for us in the coming WWDC. icon_rolleyes.gif

But come to think of it, MBA is not exactly 'cheap' eitherĀ  tongue.gif It's almost the same price as standard Windows Ultrabooks
*
Bro, you must compare apple-to-apple (pun NOT intended. laugh.gif)

If you want to compare an MBA with an Ultrabook, the Ultrabook must have at least the following to be able to compete with the MBA on same price level or the Ultrabook is just overpriced for what it is:-

1) Large Glass Trackpad
2) Full-size keyboard with good travel and tactility (not like crappy keyboards like first gen of Asus Zenbook)
3) SSD Size (most Ultrabooks have only a pathetic 128GB or some hybrid drive crap)
4) Thickness
5) Weight
6) Full aluminium unibody construction
7) Screen Resolution
8) Battery Life
9) Backlit Keyboard

Based on the above, you, I and the whole world knows that Apple is just unstoppable in the 'value-for-money' standpoint of the MBA. nod.gif

Chill, bro. No need to be so hurt over the facts I am stating. I'm also neutral as I own a Windows gaming rig and few Windows Ultrabooks too.

Now about that HP Spectre XT.

Is it full unibody aluminium? The screen display frame is cheap plastic.

Is it lighter than the MacBook Air? Every 0.x KG counts

Is the profile as slim? Nope.

Is the screen resolution good? No, it's the standard resolution you get with AVERAGE notebooks.

Is the battery life good? No, it's a lot worse than the MBA.

Trackpad? I would give HP the credit for having a large trackpad, but is still heaven & earth when compared to MBA's trackpad.

I personally own a HP Envy 14 Spectre, and is in a different league compared to the dumbed-down HP you mentioned. And the Envy 14 perhaps can come a little close to the MBA in terms of premium feel and materials used, but still loses out in certain areas as I mentioned above.

No offence at all taken from your post, as I ONLY speak from experience and based on facts. And of course, you and me are all entitled to our own opinions. Right? laugh.gif biggrin.gif

Not at all. The battery life can last as long as a MBA, I have one within my family, and MBA too. Tested both yeah lasted almost the same. Aluminium back but polycarbonate body. You have a point, but in terms of resolution, no difference compared to a MBA as MBA has no retina display. I can clearly see your stance, it's showing pretty obvious.

Then again, Apple's pricing are definitely not 'value-for-money'. More to 'premium' pricing. Imagine paying almost 3k for a 11inch notebook? Hell no. MBP's pricing is still acceptable but MBA, no.

Cheers smile.gif
*
Are you trying to say I'm not neutral but biased towards Apple? Please be careful of your words and learn not to judge people from your misinformed assumptions.

I'm speaking from experience (usage) and facts (reviews, actual data) and I don't care which side to take as it doesn't benefit me. Of course, unless I own some shares in those companies. brows.gif

The HP Spectre XT has appalling battery life even compared against other Ultrabooks (just see reputable reviews), and compared to the MBA 13"? Definitely no way it can win unless you are comparing against the MBA 11" which has poorer battery life.

Some people (perhaps the general PC user public) truly have the sad stereotype today that Apple is still overpriced, everybody thinks that no $$ is being invested into R&D by just looking at the basic specs like CPU speed, graphics, memory, drive space, etc., and not looking into what it takes to make products thin, light, reliable (HP is well known and still known for bad QC / design issues that causes them to break down easily due to overheating etc.), but I think we'll continue the discussion another day. smile.gif

Get the MBA 13" 128GB at RM 3,699. Highly recommended for that price range unless you need the built-in DVD drive, built-in ethernet, bigger storage, better colours (but also poorer resolution) of the MBP 13" basic model.

Visit here: http://store.apple.com/my-k12

And just place your oder. Simple as that.

IIANM, Mac City used to allow student pricing for their Macs and you need to fill up a form, submit, and wait for Mac City to verify your student identity with your educational institution.

Probably try to call Apple hotline to ask? Maybe Malaysia's store needs time to update or something. Worth a try if you are buying soon and really want the discount. Good luck!

i always thought the operating system is always the debating point ?

apple nvr try to match competitors with those specs and hardware

wait for windows to have smooth user experience and those gestures on trackpad then only we'll talk tongue.gif
*
Bingo! My point exactly. biggrin.gif

These days, you do not even need to talk about the software portion of a Mac yet, as the hardware is just beautiful.

Back in those days when MacBooks were still sportig Core 2 Duo while Windows laptops were already speeding with Core 'i' processors, Macs could surely be considered 'overpriced', but those days are far behind us.

Now, Apple with its behemoth budget and efficient manufacturing operations can cut cost significantly as they are mass-producing much more than before.

Actually, what you said is true about the trackpad sensitivity / usability. Even with Windows 8 (including of using Mac in bootcamp), the functionality is just horrible and not fluid like in OS X. If you are using Windows 8, an accompanying mouse is certainly a must, even if the notebook has a touch screen.

Hello guys. I just found out that my macbook pro 15inch retina (2012 version) has ghosting problem. And then after a few research I found out that my display is under LG and source said it needed to change into Samsung display then only can solve the ghosting/image retention/dead pixel problem. Have any of you experienced this and send to machines to have it change ?

icon_question.gif
*
Yes, a couple of users here have sent in their machines to Apple service centres such as Machines / VR-Tech, and new screens had been installed (with one user at least claiming his LG screen had been replaced with a Samsung one).

Do note that based on majority of screen complaints in Apple's own support forums, ghosting / image retention (and probably light mura) have been identified by forumers to be the only problems with LG display, and not dead pixels. However, nearly every single LG display is said to have the ghosting / image retention problem eventually (meaning if yours is an LG and you don't have the issue now, you will inevitably get it sooner or later, or so they say).

On the other hand, Samsung displays were found (again, said by the forumers) to be the ones that have significantly better brightness, better colours, no ghosting / image retention, but a minute few unfortunately had dead pixels. That being said, almost all Samsung users here (in Lowyat.net) have posted that their Samsung displays are just flawless, with not even any dead pixels whatsoever.

So, what are you waiting for? Get it changed immediately! biggrin.gif

aww if its under warranty, is it gonna be free ? coz i dont have the apple care and only the normal one year warranty. hopefully they are nice enough to change it for free cause its not the consumer's fault. haha thanks for your info!  icon_idea.gif

Yes, completely free under warranty. The only additional benefit of Apple Care compared to the standard 1 year warranty is the technical support by phone. Other than that, all warranty terms are the same despite the name Apple 'Care'. biggrin.gif

Just tell the service centre to try to put you up for a Samsung display replacement instead of an LG one. We believe that by now, Apple is well-aware of the issue and all their display inventory should have already been changed to Samsung.
