Y500/Y400 grey imported set (AP set)
Other variants of Y500/Y400 are US imported set(AP set) with same/different specs, cheaper price and 1 yr US warranty. Its best to avoid due to many potential hardware/warranty issues.
- read the threads on grey imported set warranty issues:
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2647407
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2825975
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2619606

- Major warranty claim issues on imported set((AP set) reported in local Lenovo facebook.
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2491914/+930
Case 1) Replied from Lenovo Malaysia in their facebook for the user who bought the imported set (AP set) quoted below:
Lenovo Malaysia:
"Hi Ms Radhika, sorry for the delay. I have intended to contact you as soon I was able to speak to the reseller who sold you the U300 but was unable to since their number was not reachable, however, in the process, dialled your brother's number which was written in the purchase invoice (thinking it could be the salesman's contact number) and I have spoken to him with regards to the management disposition on this case.

Lenovo management has decided that we will not be able to support your request for a replacement or refund because this machine is a US based machine. The dealer who sold you the unit is not an authorized Lenovo reseller. I have tried to contact the reseller but to no avail, in order to advise them the situation and for them to liase with you with regards to the solution that they may be able to offer you. I suggest that you walk in to the reseller's office if you also fail to reach them via telephone and bring up this issue to them.

Although Lenovo is an international company, the services that we render is subjected to the company's local policy and at the same time governed by Lenovo International Term & Condition.

For your existing U300 which are still at our service center, we will finish up the repair but there won't be any more warranty repair should any issue surfaces after this. "

- Major warranty claim issues on grey imported set((AP set) of Y580 face by unlucky forumer.
Case 2). https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2637513/+51
QUOTE(skan1 @ Jan 8 2013, 12:37 AM)
Seller doesn't have original receipt for the laptops she purchased.

I bought 2 units from the seller above. One broke down in 18 days.

She told me to sent it in for warranty despite I want a replacement from her.

Nevermind , I agreed with her. Now Lenovo did not fix anything and sent me back a faulty unit. This part is not her fault.

But IBM Service Center offered me a chance of a replacement unit. However, they needed the official receipt.

I contacted fie. She replied me that she doesn't have any official receipt.

Laptop buyers beware. I just want to state to you all what I have gone through for 1 month.

She will try to reassured you but words are just words, she just does nothing and is only INTERESTED IN UR MONEY.

my word of advice to all of u , get from a store which has the official receipt.

Attached is my conversation with this person.

No matter is optimus or SLI, both ways are good as we can DIY the notebook GPU. rclxms.gif

If its optimus, than we can swap in any available discrete GPU in ultrabay. It save the cost of future GPU upgrading.
If its SLI, than it may bottleneck by the on board discrete GPU for future upgrade to more powerfull GPU.

Let hope that performance of ultrabay GPU are close to on board discrete gpu and Lenovo didnn't patent the ultrabay idea so that DIY notebook GPU can go to mainstream. thumbup.gif

Yes, since we can add a discrete GPU in ultrabay no matters the on board GPU is HD4000 or discrete GPU. brows.gif

It thermal design is better than Y480 and save the trouble for dust cleaning. rclxms.gif
Wish they have resolved the thermal design flaw in Y480/Y580 where HDD temp is relatively high.

Y400/Y500 leaked details gather from the China Lenovo insider in chinese sites. hmm.gif

http://ideapad.it168.com/thread-2440179-1-1.html

- Factory engineering Y500 sample with i7-3610M, SLI GT650M, 8GB DDR3 1600mhz, 1TB. brows.gif
Attached Image Attached Image

- Y400 with i3,i5,i7 & Y500 with i5,i7
- on board gpu with GT650M + HD4000
- Y400/Y500 come with optional GT650M in ultrabay thumbup.gif cost around 1500RMB according to rumour. (around RM720) sweat.gif
- dual GPUs are good in running some hardcore game
- cooling are good with better workmanship & thicker heat sink pipe.
- 170W PSU for dual Gpus sweat.gif
- ultrabay with 5 choices~ ODD,HDD,discrete GPU,fake ODD, fan blowing air out thumbup.gif
- Y500 with optional Full HD. Y400 may come with 900p screen, low spec with HD.
- red backlit keyboard optional, JBL speaker, msata interface, Windows 8
- available in market around 1st half of Oct 2012
- Y400/Y500 are not replacement product for Y480/Y580, its a new Y series
- Y400/Y500 will price much higher than Y480/Y580(except for low spec version), they still tring to lower its costing.

Y400/Y500 selling point is the swappable ultrabay with optional GT650M, but fallshort in battery life & weight.
If the price is not very far from Y480/Y580 for ultrabay with ODD/fan, than it may be good alternative as we can upgrade
to more powerfull future gpu in ultrabay. Will it bottlenet by on board GT650M when SLI? hmm.gif

Now the question:
- What its price/performance vs Y480/Y580?
- How effective is the SLI GT650M? can get more than 50%? Worth?
- How good is the driver support for SLI?
- How effective is the cooling & battery life?
- Did HDD's temperature improve?
- whats the durability of swappable GPU?
- How portable is Y400/Y500 with 170W psu?
- Will it affect the pricing of existing Y480/Y580?
- Is it worth waiting?
- When will it available in MY?

Although 1500$+ for a so-so gaming laptop is a huge letdown.
Unless they drop the prices, this line-up might be really bad for them.

Thats the web price before discount.
The discounted price may be around $1100+ like Y580 offer. biggrin.gif

New Ideapad Y500/Y400 should be price around the same as Y580/Y480 with similar specs, ODD & 120W PSU.

My guess on Y500 with i7/GT650M/FHD/4GB/500GB/W8/ODD/120W psu is around Y580@RM3K.
The additional ultrabay GT650M + additional 170W PSU possibly price around RM700-900.

Y500 bundle with GT650M dual GPUs may price around RM3700-3900. brows.gif
The price could be lower if they remove the ODD & 120W psu.

My guess is base on Y500 selling at China Lenovo site as below:
Y500 come with i5/i7+GT650M+ODD/bluray & 120W psu in China.
The ultrabay GT650M & 170W psu are optional and selling separately.

Just wonder why they want to sell ultrabay GT650M + 170W separately? hmm.gif More profitable? laugh.gif
They could lower the price if bundle with Y500 and remove the ODD & 120W psu. biggrin.gif
