Hello there owners of Lenovo Y580,

We all know that Lenovo Y580 is bang for the bug in terms of performance and value.

However, recently , I bought one unit which broke down in 18 days cry.gif

Going through Lenovo support forum, I found many threads pertaining to problems with the discrete graphic card ( artifacts , overheat , yellow screen and etc )

To those who had their laptop send in warranty purposes, how long did you wait before getting it back ?

Please vote and leave any comments , thanks smile.gif

I don't have a Y580... but not everyone has had problems with the Y580 here hmm.gif
If you try and search any particular model, you will definitely find people complaining about problems here and there laugh.gif

As for repair duration, the time differs based on the severity of your notebook's issue and also parts availability

Just got back my laptop from Lenovo Service Centre in Bandar Utama

They did not do anything. Technician just re-adjusted the cable.

Tested under 3Dmark, still got artifact.

So disappointing, can almost cry.

Wasted my time. Will never ever buy a Lenovo again.

never get a newly troubled laptop repaired by service centre technician. just get a complete replacement. you can do it if you are still under warranty.

Sorry to know that you are very unlucky and got a bad apple.
Its seem that you bought the US imported set (AP set) and cannot get the official Lenovo receipt from the reseller for 1 to 1 replacement according to your post in garage sales quoted belows:

QUOTE(skan1 @ Jan 8 2013, 12:37 AM)
Seller doesn't have original receipt for the laptops she purchased.

I bought 2 units from the seller above. One broke down in 18 days.

She told me to sent it in for warranty despite I want a replacement from her.

Nevermind , I agreed with her. Now Lenovo did not fix anything and sent me back a faulty unit. This part is not her fault.

But IBM Service Center offered me a chance of a replacement unit. However, they needed the official receipt.

I contacted fie. She replied me that she doesn't have any official receipt.

Laptop buyers beware. I just want to state to you all what I have gone through for 1 month.

She will try to reassured you but words are just words, she just does nothing and is only INTERESTED IN UR MONEY.

my word of advice to all of u , get from a store which has the official receipt.

Attached is my conversation with this person.

QUOTE(ajul @ Jan 9 2013, 05:07 PM)
i know u buy from her bcoz of "cheap"...not bcoz of "service" or "whatever"...if she provide u a receipt...sure all ur problem settle...
u need pay rm3x99 for local unit with that spec...but now u pay much2 lower than that...
got many other reputable seller sell same thing and can provide receipt but abit higher price tag...but seem u looking for the cheapest and prefer newbie than other senior seller....now u learn something...

receipt mention by IBM service center is receipt from shop u buy...not shop/supplier/distri receipt from their source...sometime they just need a receipt for a record and procedure purpose only before make any claim...

seller fault = bcoz cant provide u a receipt
buyer fault = bcoz buy from "newbie" seller

im here not to find other fault...i just to mention even this stock from US...u still can claim warranty here...but u must follow a procedure...some service center need receipt for claim any warranty...some service center doesnt need it...but if u want make big claim like 1 to 1 exchange, higher possiblity they will ask for receipt as a record...to record date of ur purchase...for sure receipt or invoice must got company name and a few standard template....

your wrong on this part.

IBM Service Center wants the original Lenovo receipt , not from shop.

I double asked them. That is what they told me.

As for the service center, it was the one at KPMG.

Yes you are right, I bought it coz it was cheap. It is also my first time I purchased a laptop. I wouldn't have thought about the possibilities of this situation happening ( laptop breakdown, crappy services, no official receipt and etc). A first for everything right.

Lenovo can call for proof of purchase for major warranty claims for imported set as its stipulated in their international warranty claims terms & conditions.

What happen if we claim that official Lenovo receipt/invoice is lost or misplaced? laugh.gif
I think Lenovo should consider the international warranty for imported set effective from manufactured date and proceed with the warranty claims. hmm.gif

Regret to note that the imported set reseller couldn't produce the official Lenovo receipt and assist the client for warranty claims. shakehead.gif sweat.gif

Suggest TS to include in title "warranty claim issues on US imported Y580", to alert the potential buyers.
Wonder TS already register the warranty in Lenovo site. hmm.gif
TS may try it and hope it get results. brows.gif

Definitely a tactic worth trying for TS, of course with another service centre tongue.gif
Make up stories like brother bought for TS in US or something like that .... laugh.gif Don't play angry, play "victim", teary eyes, ... that kind of thing.
The idea is for the service personnel to take pity on you sweat.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

Hi, there! remind me a thread that discussed about the potential issues of international warranty on grey imported set.
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2619606

It seems that TS bad experience on major warranty claims proven below statement. sweat.gif
QUOTE(BAlm @ Dec 8 2012, 11:31 PM)
anyway what i want to say is just:

-if buying new Y480 or Y580 (per topic), CHECK the laptop if its Msia set.

-If it is not, there is a high chance you are getting no warranty services from Lenovo Malaysia

-You will NOT get services/warranty in Malaysia eventhough the set mention there is international warranty and you can register the warranty in the website.

-Because in order to eligible for international warranty, your set have to be purchased from the united states and provide proof of purchase. Which you did not.

TS can also try the usefull feedbacks/suggestion given by our sifu in the above link. thumbup.gif
Wish it helps and do feedback to us on your warranty claims.

This is a good lesson to learn and dont get carry away by the good offers drool.gif rclxm9.gif
and overlook the important of the good service and warranty then we cry.gif mad.gif
Your choice. icon_rolleyes.gif

Yes.

Bought those imported Y580 will get less support from local Malaysia Lenovo. You can't blame them actually.

Imagine that you're selling Y580 in Malaysia and got target to carry, where all the consumers go Singapore buy, then claim you for the warranties. Lenovo HQ will one day ask you why you claim so many warranty but your sales doesn't justify.

So, that's the reason why imported get less support.
