What if I can get a 500Gb sata2 for <1k, is smsg 830 256Gb at rm650 (as stated above) a good alternative?
Maybe 500Gb is overkill, u never know how much u need it untill u really needs it, rite?!?

SMG 830 256G at sub RM650

Just realised the SAMSUNG 840 are built using not SLC, MLC but TLC (Tripple Level Cell)

I don't know what is TLC and how TLC performs. So i dig in and manage to find some resource from Micron.

Happy viewing

which batter m4 vs samsung 840 pro ssd
*
there are many answers to your question:

budget: for normal daily use, crucial should be sufficient and it's way cheaper (unless you're like me use it to running multiple virtual machines concurrently for work purposes, then samsung 840 pro sure is a better choice)

performance: samsung 840 pro is a new product. it has advantages in having a new controller, increased dram with higher clock speed, etc. on paper, it might be the fastest ssd today. but like i said, can you make full use of such performance ssd? from these threads, i realize only some of us can.

endurance: although 830 has a very impressive record, we don't know about 840 pro; crucial has the lowest rate of returns.

Why get a Corsair Force GT 240GB when its priced at RM759 when a Crucial M4 256GB can be had for RM650?
There is no Intel 330 240GB, but there is for the 520 series and that costs RM780. Not worth it.

According to storm88 on his earlier post, he can get a Samsung 830 256GB at sub RM650, that's a no brainer right there.

In terms of performance, it has been repeated numurous times already. They do not matter under the usage of gaming, day-to-day basis applications (internet and what not) and windows/applications boot time.

The difference between them is so insignificant that anything one would "feel" is simply just a placebo effect.

If you are doing a lot of real-time video encoding, recording or processing thousands (literally, thousands I mean) of RAW photos, then the extra bandwidth comes in play. But otherwise, forget the numbers. Get the one which is of the best value and reliability.

Good advice. About the performance thing, yeah, I guess you're right. I have not been in an SSD discussion before so I didn't really know the performance would be so insignificant. I'll hunt around for a good deal... for at least 240/256Gb size. The Samsung one sounds good.

Agreed on that.. No need to spend to much on getting the SSD.. price definitely will become cheaper sooner.. and afraid you will regret spending to much on it.. Find the SSD that is more reliable..

i can wait 840 pro feedback resuit any problem blue screen
i can wait no problem
*
what is your budget for the SSD? can you elaborate more on faster pc that u need? in term of what?

* For Crucial M4 user on UEFI bios, do not upgrade to the latest firmware (010G) as it might cause your bios not able to detect your SSD.

ok smile.gif

for gaming, i think stressing on gpu is more useful. yeah like soultaker said, please define "faster pc", and tell us how deep your wallet is biggrin.gif. for me, it also means 39xx cpu, using pci-e instead of sata ssds.

Have you done SSD optimization on your SSD? Please refer to 1st page and do the optimization.. there is some power option need to be done also.. if the problem still persist, i suggest you do full backup and send it for RMA.. while it still under warranty..

There are few registry entries that you need to modify, but backup your registry first in case need to restore the old settings.

yes, cause if you clone your old hdd, windows wont enable stuff like TRIM for your SSD. Whereas if you clean install than windows will auto detect your ssd and install the required stuff like TRIM.

thats kinda defeat the purpose of havin a ssd..its for ur OS not data

Hi, right now I studying outside. So, I cant use my rig at all, just a waste if I leave it unuse. Don't want to buy a new laptop yet cause I'm living in hostel, worry about thieves! But I also don't want to buy a new ext storage, just swap the 2.5inch HDD when I buy a laptop.

M4 256GB for ~RM580 not counting shipping, that's seriously tempting.
