QUOTE(Eoma @ Nov 5 2012, 08:15 PM) After reading quite a bit and perhaps ditching my earlier intent of getting the Sandisk Readycache (was a stop gap/wanting to save money first), I'm down to 2 choices: Which chipset is your device running on? Personally I prefer M4 over 520, which is still sandforce based.Crucial M4 512GB + cheap(er) + reliable (on firmware 000F) + 30GB "more" space than Intel 520 - doesn't come with desktop kit - assuming drive "dies" after 3rd year, then the cost is roughly RM400/year @ RM1200/pc; will be slightly more with extra desktop kit - Web reports of random freezing even with 000F Intel 520 480GB + reliable (or rather carries the Intel brand reliability) + desktop kit included + 5 years warranty + assuming drive dies after 5th year, cost is roughly RM340/year @ RM1700/pc - expensive - Web reports of random BSOD from SF22xx chips still not 100% eliminated Main point of purchase: change from 300GB WD Raptor to SSD without worrying about space (don't have to manage programs etc); meant to last as long as possible. Performance wise i would rate them equal especially considering it'll be put into a C2Q Intel P45 based system, Maximus II Formula. Still plenty fast except for the SATA II ports. "Real world difference" SATA2 vs SATA3 from what i read is there but minimal. System will be upgraded (maybe ?) in the next 2-3 years; carrying over the SSD and mechanical HDDs. Suggestions ? (and place to purchase if possible). tq. This post has been edited by ronaldjoe: Nov 5 2012, 11:18 PM |

QUOTE(AwaN87 @ Nov 5 2012, 11:26 PM) my crucial m4 got disk error. now attempting to repair.. suddenly crash while installing new nvidia driver.. shall i start repair with win7 disk instead?? Suggest you:Edit : Done startup repair and it says disk is corrupt. oh why!! no!! 1) Format the drive 2) Flash with latest firmware or the earlier 000F 3) Write '0' to the drive A lot of time, SSD issue is something to do with the controller or interface. Doing the above might save it. Memory itself normally would normally last long. |

QUOTE(azbro @ Nov 19 2012, 05:49 PM) If I just get clone my HDD and replace it with a SSD on my laptop, will it increase the overall speed? Or do I need to tweak the BIOS setup? TQ Hi Bro, make sure TRIM is enabled and you get full speed of it.You can refer to some of my thread on setup info/instruction on TRIM (it's available on on the web as well). |

QUOTE(wiraone @ Nov 25 2012, 08:52 PM) Just rechecked the registry, the value is already set to 0. So, I believe AHCI has been set correctly. QUOTE(freakenstein @ Nov 25 2012, 10:38 PM) So you should be able to boot using AHCI mode , choose in your bios. I believe previously booting in this mode will cause it to restart the second it reaches the windows boot logo. Yup, the registry is for AHCI. Then theoretically it should be able to boot in AHCI (in BIOS) as well.In Windows 7 environment: It's always recommended to to do fresh installation in IDE mode and subsequently enable AHCI in regsitry then in BIOS. |

Depending on setup, for desktop normally I recommend it to be done after installation of OS into SSD. For laptop, AHCI is set as default in BIOS.

QUOTE(OC4/3 @ Nov 27 2012, 10:46 PM) There are cases users run into 'Holland' when installation is done straight in AHCI mode on desktop. I mean real case from personal experience. Installing it first on IDE was perfectly fine.I am not sure what causes this, but cases and outcome vary. |

Better to get an Sata III SSD as price difference is not a lot and it's backward compatible.

QUOTE(dreaming @ Jan 15 2013, 10:25 PM) hi guys, Write Zero to the drive and update firmware one more time. It should solve the problem.need help. i had bought a kingston ssd hyperx 3k 120gb and clone my existing window 7 into it. i checked from AS SSD and it show 31K -BAD: [attachmentid=3264221] what does it mean and any tips on how to resolve it? sorry, i'm new to ssd My system is: Win7 Pro 64bits Intel i5-2500K Asrock Z68 Pro3 4 x 4gb kingston DDR3 MSI ATI 5770 no overclock. ======================= edit: checked from google, it is because the drive doesn't aligned. i'm using EaseUS Partition Manager to copy my system from old hardisk to ssd. is that any other method i can try to resolve it? thanks in advance IF you are using windows 7, it's recommended to use IDE mode for first time installation. Then change registry and change to AHCI mode to enable TRIM. This post has been edited by ronaldjoe: Jan 16 2013, 11:05 AM |

QUOTE(dreaming @ Jan 17 2013, 04:08 PM) thanks for reply. I use Acronis True Image for clone. You need a back up drive. i checked from kingston website, no new driver/firmware is available. i don't want to re-installing win7, can i use the clone method without getting the 4k alignment issue? I have a Kingston drive in my netbook, but I dont have this issue. |

QUOTE(shinzhizu @ Apr 11 2013, 09:45 AM) Not recommended as most MOBO does not have BIOS that allow boot from PCI EThe MSI card that you have is already good card. Another one that I can think of is ASUS U3S6. This post has been edited by ronaldjoe: Apr 12 2013, 07:52 AM |

QUOTE(1024kbps @ Apr 12 2013, 12:18 PM) Huh, i'm pretty sure it can, it's not pcie ssd, it's sata port expansion card. Those aftermarket raid cards are mostly for server application. Kinda hardcore for normal Malaysian folks. The Asus u3s6 is almost a same thing as the MSI one, as both are using Marvel SATA controller. Another option is to buy the LSI pcie sata card, but those card is very expensive, you could even buy a new mobo with that price iirc |
