I'm on OSX Mountain Lion and I don't play games that much, I do Photoshop a lot. My 60GB SSD is only dedicated for OS and applications and space taken only 27GB after I installed OSX and all my necessary apps, that is why I bought the 60GB in the first place. I bought another 60GB just to get into RAID0. I have 6TB of HDD for my storage like photos, movies, mp3 and other.

Intel 520 -> 120GB @ RM478 - http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2435660/all

IntelĀ® SSD 520 Series 120GB SATA MLC 80 & 85 Microsecond SATA 6Gb/s 550 MB/s / 500 MB/s = RM459 @ http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1293022/all

INTEL 510 SERIES 120G RM 450/210 RM 899 - CZONE

Intel SSD 510 (120G-265MB/200MB) RM 899 - PC ZONE

Intel SSD 510 Series 120GB (R-400MB/s W-210MB/s) RM 950 - STARTEC

INTEL 510 A2K5 120GB 2.5" sata3 450M 210M RM 889 - viewnet

why is the price difference so much? , could someone explain ?

I'm not sure how they dictate the prices but if you look up the anandtech lab tests and reviews they are pretty much the same and the 330 will be even detected as a 520. The reviewer summarized that ultimately there wont be much of a difference in terms of endurance. The extra money you pay might be worth due to the 5 year warranty on the 520s compared to the 3 year for the 330s.

SSD for speed and shock resistant only. Not design to last long. Life spam i think few times shorter than HDD.

My oldest SSD is currently 2 years old, and I am sure that there are other forumers with older SSDs.

After check with the price and do compare. It seems worth for the capacity. I got check review around google, it seems that speed is slower compare other. Not really understand the review and also not sure is it the same model too.

I wouldn't buy that SSD due to fear, uncertainty and doubt (FUD).

And considering your rig, surely you can afford to pay the regular price for a reputable 256GB SSD with full warranty. The most expensive component in my rig is my SSD.

Yea, some more it was only 1 month warranty. This make is the main point, warranty.
I think take your advise to get a full warranty SSD better.

I have enabled TRIM in Mountain Lion. Noticed that my Intel 520 180g speed has been slowed down as compared to before TRIM.

Before TRIM
Read: 445 MB/s
Write: 215 MB/s

After TRIM is enabled
Read: 400 MB/s
Write: 190 MB/s

Is this normal? For the sake of good speed & longer life span, should we enable or disable TRIM?

hi slickz , thanks for you reply . so you're saying 330 is the same as 520? do you think i should go for 330 or 520? not much difference in terms of endurance , how much difference in term of speed? ah 520 for 5 years , 330 for 3 years.

For information, these are the prices I surveyed just a few hours ago;

Intel 330 60GB
Startec - RM 205
Jayacom - RM 209
Cycom - NA
Viewnet - RM 209
Czone - RM 229

Intel 330 120GB
Startec - RM 310
Jayacom - RM 335
Cycom - RM 325
Viewnet - RM 319
Czone - RM 349

Fret not. I bought my 120 GB for close to RM 350 a few weeks ago. sad.gif The prices above are from the respective shop's price list. Most are listed as cash prices. Did not ask if there is a surcharge on credit card.

Oh BTW for those who are interested to get the Crucial M4 in Low Yat Plaza, Jayacom now carries them;

64 GB - RM 235
128 GB - RM 349
256 GB - RM 699
512 GB - RM 1299

How long were you running the SSD before you found out that you did not have TRIM enabled? Could it be that the SSD drive degraded before you enabled TRIM?
