I am considering a position in SITI.  Someone told me it's like suicide, going there when 2 years later there's uncertainty.  I also heard the oursource companies have no big names like HP or IBM, but instead there's CSA, etc.  So I would like to know... is it really stupid to go to SITI now?  My current company is ok, stable, but nothing new to learn, if something happens 10 years later, I would be in trouble.
*
life is full with uncertainty and no one can predict wat will happen in future. outsourcing may not a bad thing and i believe shell will have some sort of agreements to protect its ex-staf interests likes when Petronas outsourced its IT operation to iPerintis. if u afraid of outsourcing then look for a job in IT companies lor like HP or IBM as it is a trend for non-core IT companies to outsource their IT operation. E.g Petronas -> Iperintis, OCBC -> E2 power, Standard Charted -> Scope International, MayBank -> CSC or CSA, etc..

Why is it like suicide if you buck up these 2 years? Worry about retrenchment? If you are lousy, people will fire you anyway, right? So better buck up and be good... sorry, be great! Then you wouldnt have to worry about 2 years later.

Hahahaha... either way is fine. Both permanent or both contract? I think if both contract, go SITI for fun. If both permanent, go CSC then.

What are the job positions like first? It seems that you are making a decision based on the company rather than the job itself.

SITI -> Toilet cleaner
CSA -> Security guard

Hrm...decisions, decisions... doh.gif

so u cant tell yet if HP got it all.....
but of coz substantial of the infra staff will be go out there....
so if u go interview....and the interviewer tell u dat u won get outsourced...
think of wat position u getting 1st....then think whether u should trust him/her then....

i had recently heard from my fren who her fren jz interviewed....hmm....a support job....
and he was told he will not outsourced.....hehe....well...how true is that....insider knows all....

yes, it is true that there's outsourcing going on for SITI and yes, different divisions will be outsourced to different vendors. The purpose of this outsourcing is for shell to cut cost as well as let the experts in their industry/area to execute the work. So, example is like the helpdesk will be either under CSC or EDS, the storage is under Fujitsu or HP, the telecom or STO is going to go to BT or Verizon Communications and so on....So, permanent people will have 2 choice :

1) the obvious wan is to move to the vendor side as a permanent for 2 years and then subjected to the vendor to
keep the staff
2) before the staff move to the different vendors, there will be a period where SITI staff will be "open" to apply other
positions in shell group. If dapat, good, else go back to step 1.

and I think not all of SITI is outsource, that is for sure. Dept that involves with Process & Procedure, SAP, Supporting Global Applications/Functions will not be involved as this outsourcing is for Global Infrastructure. However, those who dont get it, will get the next round, which is the outsourcing for applications, which will happen after this outsourcing I think cool2.gif

Haha I thought you rejected the offer biggrin.gif

Yes medical coverage is unlimited for all Shell permanent employees for everyone in your immediate family. No panel clinics whatsoever, but they do limit the hospitals to the big name hospitals only. Of course you pray to god that you never get to test that "unlimited" figure ever.... biggrin.gif

Also don't worry too much since outsourcing is 90% certain. If you go for an interview for a permanent position HR will tell you that figure.

You're missing out so much excitement in your life by not joining biggrin.gif

vvv, there hasn't been an SRD since at least the beginning of 2007 if I recall correctly. I don't know why but I suspect one of the main reasons is the outsourcing...

The hospital list is the "big name hospitals" eg. all the KPJ hospitals, Sunway, Pantai etc. if you need major or specialist treatment. You cannot go to small hospitals eg. pretty much all the PUSRAWI's out there since they don't meet Shell's "high" standards for safety. Unlimited literally means unlimited, they will send you overseas if treatment is not available in Malaysia. If it's just fever, cough, cold, go anywhere you need.

I suggest you call up HR and ask them to walk you through the exact benefits you get depending on the department you join and your level. There is a whole lot of stuff there that is based on those particulars.
