I believe outsourcing will be here to stay as it is a good reason for cost saving...Imagine, the company just need to pay a sum of amount and vendors will take care of everything. So, the company doesn't need to worry about staff union lah, staff benefits lah, staff turn around lah, and etc. If the appointed vendors cannot perform just appoint another vendors for the job..Petronas too already outsourced its IT department to iPerintis and the result seems quite promising

I am considering a position in SITI.  Someone told me it's like suicide, going there when 2 years later there's uncertainty.  I also heard the oursource companies have no big names like HP or IBM, but instead there's CSA, etc.  So I would like to know... is it really stupid to go to SITI now?  My current company is ok, stable, but nothing new to learn, if something happens 10 years later, I would be in trouble.

life is full with uncertainty and no one can predict wat will happen in future. outsourcing may not a bad thing and i believe shell will have some sort of agreements to protect its ex-staf interests likes when Petronas outsourced its IT operation to iPerintis. if u afraid of outsourcing then look for a job in IT companies lor like HP or IBM as it is a trend for non-core IT companies to outsource their IT operation. E.g Petronas -> Iperintis, OCBC -> E2 power, Standard Charted -> Scope International, MayBank -> CSC or CSA, etc..

During the recent bonus and merit talk, Shell Malaysia just increase the salary for fresh grad and few job groups to make it on par and more competitive compare with other O&G companies...according to the downstream MD, this year going to be very tough year for shell with current economy situation but they will not freeze/stop any intake but now more toward to experienced hiring...

whether Shell is good or bad company is depend to the individual. No doubt shell provides alot of benefits to its staff which indirectly also known as 'Golden handcuff' tongue.gif

Recently, cost saving is a top priority in shell and they are trying to reduce cost whenever it is possible. However, we in Malaysia is very lucky because in current economy situation, shell intend to have more hiring in east compare west....

in fact there are still many IT related jobs in shell. IT jobs in shell is more toward project management or managing vendors instead of technical stuff. If you were someone want to learn IT related stuff in shell then honestly speaking shell is not a place for you. Even, u managed to secure an IT technical related job in shell but i guess it will not last long. why shell seldom offer IT related jobs because the priority is given to internal staff first as wat we call internal OR (Open Resourcing). If i not mistaken, that position needs to be publish at least 5 times in OR and still no one wants to apply then the management will decide if they still can hold it first or seek resources from outside.

Wow, are you in any chance a Shell employee? Managing vendor, that's EXACTLY the position I'm applying for. Been waiting for SRD for about 3 months now. I'm more interested in technical IT positions but I'm more that willing to be involved in non-technical aspects as well.

Oh Well I'm starting to find another job now anyway. The wait is too long for me. It's unbearable.

i still stuck in shell......about master degree requirement, i have to admit that alot of newly employed employees have that...but, i also discovered some of newly employed employees still waiting for their degree..meaning they went to SRD with semester results only

I heard some friend of a friend that for new guys in Shell the 1st year there's not much activities so what they do is send you to Dutch Shell Universities for 5 months studying the courses fulltime! I heard the cost can go up to rm300k & theres no bond to sign, so you can choose to stay there or come back.

Also health coverage there is unlimited.

Mr. Peter said...we need to cut another 1 billion USD operation cost next yr.....all LTs looking at every corners to chop ppl and cut cost....even existing staff external training been limited and encourage everyone to do online courses at Shell Open University....
