Hehe, same here! Same color too >_< Now dirty already, the price to pay for owning a white car. Congrats by the way!
Hmm, other than the Nexen tires, I have no other complaints at all. Pretty damn good car thus far, and I have been driving around quite a bit through bumps, portholes and with the roof opened / closed, to see if there are squeeks / odd noises and I have yet to find any. Everything is immaculate!

And its not really 150k, its closer to 140k if you can get some good cash discounts.
Its 143,888 OTR before discount. I didnt get a discount but got an overtrade for my Vios. Even Toyota KL offered me only 34K for my 9.5 yr Vios 1.5E trading in for the Camry 2.5V. But Kia Ipoh took it for 38K. That's a good 4K extra.

So basically, i paid less than 140K for my K5. If thats not a good deal for a well spec'd 2.0L D segment car, then i dont know what else to say. doh.gif

The new Optima K5 also has the most powerful 2.0L NA engine in that price range on paper rite? 170Hp, 201Nm torque. Camry 2.0L only 146Hp, 190Nm. But i think power delivery for the K5 needs to be improved. Not sure if the new engine has addressed this.

I have tested the old and new K5s alike, but both seems a tad bit sluggish (I previously owned a Latio, a lighter car, so pickup and response is better I guess). Now the hype of the new car is still here (especially the smell, haha). Later on, maybe can try to join some of you guys, when you go to TT, to check out the infamous PB perhaps.

{Start of Sarcasm} Dear Bros,

I think I have made a terrible mistake in buying K5. The reasons are, the RV is too low, got so many problems, under-power, tech-wise so low compare to BMW 7-series and Mercs S-Class, and only 5-years unlimited mileage compare to what Kia in USA is offering.

In future, I shall ignore all the bias reports (see below) against the most branded Japanese brand car and blindly wait for the new launch of the best serviceable car in the whole world and I shall not complain about the looks, price and trim offer and because it has the best service centres in Malaysia. Further more, because the brand guarantees no "lemon" car ever being produced, the car shall run for eternity without breaking down. Lastly, I shall now count my blessing that I own the best of breed Japanese brand car in the world, where I am praise by my uncles, aunties, grandfathers and grandmothers, for making the wisest choice in car selection. {End of Sarcasm} rclxms.gif

Both Camry and Accord 2.0 series has fewer transmission speed and less torque and horse power than K5. That says a lot if you're talking about performance comparison with Camry and Accord. But if you want a performance car you should forget about K5, Camry and Accord... and get those car with turbo with much higher torque. I test driven Preve, Forte 1.6, Forte 2.0, K5, Passat... my order of performance is Passat > Preve > Forte 2.0 / K5 > Forte 1.6. But ride comfort is K5 > Passat > Forte > Preve..... my 2 cent

Bros, I saw ppl selling of the Mercedes c200 year around 07 - 08 for less than the price of k5.. And BMW 3 series around 100k.. Is it wise to buy an used car? Does these two brand has better durability? Because my friend drove a c200 for around 5 years plus no issue but with good service records la.. He told me Mercedes can tahan very long wan.. But obviously if things get nasty it would be costly la.. But that would be many years to come..

My K5 body has "injured" a bit, the surface paint has chip off a little... sad.gif
Does anyone hear about "spot painting" which we do not need to send our K5 for whole body paint and only paint the "spot" area ? sweat.gif

First of all get your criterias right. Why bother coming here and then using just 1 criteria to compare? Buying a car is about looking at the WHOLE package. There is no single perfect car out there. Not even a Porsche gives you everything you want in a car.

I would consider the following 11 criteria:

1) Price
2) Safety
3) Specifications
4) Design
5) Comfort
6) Interior space
7) Build quality / durability
8) Ride, handling, power
9) After sales service
10) Maintenance costs including fuel consumption
11) Warranty terms

Judge all cars based on these criteria. You can give ratings for each criteria. Without looking at the whole picture, u can never make an informed decision.

I have spent considerable time testing various cars before making my decision. For me, the K5 excels in point 1,2,3,4,6 and 11 compared to other Japanese D segments.

As for the other points:

Point 5 - It isnt very comfortable as its got 18 inch rims and a suspension thats tuned for performance and not comfort like the Camry or Teana.

Point 7 - Unknown at this point but so far im happy

Point 8 - Its road grip is quite good thanks to the 18 inch tyres and lower profile. Handling can be improved but the new K5 might have addressed this with its electric steering. Has good power putput figures too (on paper) but needs improvement with power delivery. Not sure if the new K5 engine has adressed this.

Point 9 - Its still below Toyota standards but much better compared to maybe 3 years ago. Still got room for improvement

Point 10 - Unknown at this point. Fuel consumption is quite good despite the weight but the Japanese would still be slightly better here.

The Kia Optima K5 isnt the best D segment in the market and its far from perfect for sure. But do remember that ure only paying RM 143,888 (OTR before discount). Yes you may find some better cars out there but you are also paying for any advantage you may find. The specs and equipment found on the K5 beats even the new Camry 2.5V which costs 40K more. Yes you may lose out with after sales service and possibly future resale value but you get alot more in return.

As always, i remind you to give safety a serious consideration over resale value, etc. You cannot put a price on your life and the lives of your loved ones.

This morning when I rub my K5 I couldn't see any scratch or paint chip off but after my lunch near by which I drove my K5 out, by the time I reached home I has found it at the door panel, a little ( about 1~2mm ) scratch and can see the black color underneath my bright silver color... doh.gif

If the chips are not very severe, you can check out those paint touch up products that looks a bit like a marker pen of sorts. Scroll through the postings in the k5 club in facebook. I think I saw someone selling the product there.
