Newbie coming to this thread!! tongue.gif

Got my lovely K5 last week from Penang, it is an unit owned by my friend where she must let go her unit to me because she need to work at overseas starting next week.

Fuel Consumption : Not know how many kms i can go for full tank, the AVG Fuel Consumption shown 7.1L/100km at the highway and after few days driving city now increased to 7.6L/100km, i think it might go further.

Just curious, why when I press "reset" button, the AVG Fuel Consumption not showing data after reset or it can't be reset ?

Ride: The ride is awksome! rclxms.gif
Especially with the autocruise the riding at highway make superb easy, my two legs sometimes not working at all rclxm9.gif

I see here someone did the auto folding side mirror with smart key, I am wonder where can I get it done also ?
Will it also void the 5 years warranty we have with this done ?

so how much you took over the car from your friend?
*
My friend just sold it to me for the price of RM128K, as this is 2012 manufacture with rear air-cond and since she only use it for less than 5 months and total mileage is about 7000km so I think the price is quite justified. smile.gif

Great price for you but well below market price. Not good for her i guess.
*
Thanks for your input, however I thought I am not taking any advantage from her since we are good friend, and I would guess if the price for 1 year old optima is depreciate for RM20K or more then the price I bought is not really below market price, adding up the insurance premium is already RM130K. A brand new optima with 55% NCB is about RM141K. So for a half year car I guess RM10K less is quite reasonable. tongue.gif

Well u didnt say it was without insurance. So with insurance at 130K is reasonable.
*
hehe... just lupa to tell ! tongue.gif

anyway, just to ask cybermaster98 you have any experience on the HAC ( Hill Assist Control ) ?
when we stop at a inclined slope, gear shift to N, parking brake depressed. So, when we need to move the car again, first right foot depress brake pedal, then follow by release the parking brack, then follow by shift the gear to D, then follow by release the right foot brake pedal, this way the HAC should function for 2 seconds ? hmm.gif

Some people encounter different problem... It will start playing from USB drive... but it always start at the first song of the drive, not from the previous song where they stop.

The solution is, change the USB drive... I am using Sandisk... the shortest tinyest thumb drive. No problem at all.... it will start play from USB from the song where I stop.

Try change your also.

Very simple to identify which one is annoying..imagine water hit milo tin wat is the sounds like? Kong kong sound rite, then wat is the sound like when water hit the glass? Click click sounds rite
*
It is non comparable with milo tin to aluminium and glass to glass roof even though it seems quite similar ... tongue.gif
It also depends on the thickness of the material itself and the insulation underneath it. biggrin.gif

The definition of investment is when something helps to earn recurring income. Therefore a car should never be considered as an investment unless it is used as a taxi. I have always treated my car as a rental. That is why I always go for the maximum years for the loan to reduce repayment. Whenever ppl ask me why do I choose a car with no resale value, I just told them that I don't change my car so often and as the article pointed out, why forgo your interest in a car just for the sake of able to sell it at a higher price later brows.gif
*
Yes, totally agreed on treated a car as a rental! rclxms.gif

To me, it all depends on your earning power ! tongue.gif

If your income are at least 7 figures per year, buying a K5 is like buying a mobile phone for a normal income person, resale value is a difinite not into your consideration.

If your income are at least 6 figures above per year, buying a K5 is not very much a burden to you, resale value might be part of the consideration but still is not a major concerned.

But, if you are spending more than 30% of your income for your monthly installment, then you must have a serious consideration on whether you should go for a K5 or not.

And, talking about the resale value, I don't understand why are there so many people are not favor to korean car, for my own opinion if more peoples are buying korean car from now on then how could the resale value still became lower ?
If korean car quality keep improving and keep outpaced japanese car will the peoples still think the resale value of korean car is lower ? sweat.gif

Think about a Korean company call Samsung, 10 years back did you ever think to buy their mobile phone that time ? tongue.gif

about the car are still moving (about 2-3inches) after apply to foot brake, my SA told me this during im collecting my car, he just want me to take note of this so i wont park/stop my car too close with the object infront..
*
I think this is standard for a K5 foot brake, you have to really depressed it very hard then you would noticed it only moved a bit or not moving at all if you depressed it really firmly. Try again. biggrin.gif

Ive highlighted this issue to Kia CMD this morning. Awaiting feedback. Yes i dont have much confidence in the Nexen. Road grip is ok but if the tyre isnt strong enough then its pointless. But im not sure if its the tyre problem or not as i didnt see any debris on the highway that could have caused this blowout.

But i also feel safer knowing that the Stability Control activated fast enough.
*
bro, glad to hear that you are safe in such an incident. But, how do you know the Stability Control has activated ?

None of the year end promos offered by any car manufacturer (especially non Japs) would be able to ofset the loss in resale value come Jan 2013 unless ure getting a discount of more than 8K. The registration of a car has no bearing on the resale value. Its the year of manufacture which counts. So if you get a 2012 car now, by Jan 2013, your car will be in its 2nd year of service already.

So my advice would be to wait and get a 2013 manufactured model.

Added on December 7, 2012, 4:39 pm

That would be at around end of February or beginning of March already.

Even if Pakatan wins the election, there will not be a drastic reduction of car prices. If a reduction of taxes is implemented it will be done gradually e.g 5% a year to enable manufacturers and 2nd hand dealers to push off existing stock. And if done it wont be immediate. Probably beginning 2014 at the earliest. There are many other factors to be considered and steps to be put in place before a tax reduction is implemented.

So if ure postponing your car purchase in the hope you could buy a BMW for the price of a Camry, im afraid its not gonna happen within the next few years.

Added on December 7, 2012, 4:41 pm

Yes, totally agreed! A drastic reduction will create more problem unless Pakatan can figure out how to compensate the existing car owner ( especially like you and me  tongue.gif ) that our newly bought K5 priced at ±140K before will have the new sales price of ±115K because of the drastic reduction.
If they reduced the price by 5% which is around ±7K I thought it would be more manageable.  biggrin.gif

Property is different as its influenced by world and local economy. There isnt gonna be a bubble in Malaysia anytime soon and surely no price reduction in mature areas.

Added on December 7, 2012, 4:42 pm

I dont think Pakatan said they would slash prices immediately did they? Any price reduction would be gradual over a period of at least 5 years.

Finally my baby is back, and what a beauty she is:

user posted image

Alright, it's time for me to give you guys a status report on my problems. Sorry, I've been busy, couldn't reply here from time to time.

So, after pressuring the KIA people via various channels:
1) Wrote a very detailed email telling the story from A-to-Z, attached videos and pictures to KIA Korea through this system, and also CC-ed to KIA CMD :
KIA DDMS System <-- this is so well hidden that it took me two days to find it.
2) Wrote multiple emails and phone calls to KIA CMD Dept.
3) Paid surprise visits to KIA HQ

So, finally KIA Korea acknowledged my problems and instructed KIA Selayang SC and CMD Dept to contact me immediately (and bloody hell, these Korean fellas disappeared straight away and left the problems to NAZA KIA to handle), and then i finally secured a meeting with CMD personnel, KIA technical personnel, and KIA Selayang Manager at the end of Sept 2012.

so, bla bla bla, i had to take another day off to attend to these people and re-told them the story A-Z, and pointed out all of the problems, and they promised me the following:
1) they'll reimburse my losses pertaining to my windscreen tinting
2) they'll replace all parts that were damaged by their technicians
3) they'll fix all my problems according to KIA factory standards
4) they'll provide me a courtesy car and collect my car from my office, rather than having me go all-the-way to their SC
5) they'll collect my car on the following week
6) they'll give me a status report from time to time, and they'll give me a job report after all things are done
Well, the manager and all who attended the meeting was sincere and apologetic though, so I couldn't get angry and raise my voice, it's KIA Korea's quality control problems anyhow, can't really blame them.

So, I went back waited for a week, no news, and waited another week, still no news. Waited another week (3rd week) still no news. So I couldn't wait anymore and went straight to their HQ CMD for a surprise visit, and not surprisingly, all those who were taking charge of my case was either 'absent' or 'busy' or 'engage' and they sent out an innocent lady to handle me. Sigh, so i talked nicely again and got her to promise me to address my problems on the following week. And they did. Their excuse for such a long delay was lack of courtesy car, and they must que for the cars.

On the following week, no news nor any updates from KIA. So I called and ask, and finally the SC service personnel came to my office with a Forte and collected my car.

For the first two weeks, no news. Then on the third week, KIA CMD called and told me they are ordering parts and fixing the car.

And it took them 5 weeks to get the car ready (and that was after I called and pressured them). So after initial inspection, the following were done:

1) Sunroof noise - mitigated but not rectified by SC Completely erradicated
2) Noisy vibrating speaker grill on the dashboard - SC ignored / forgotten Didn't hear anything initially, but i heard something today, still assessing
3) Really loud seat knocking noise - Rectified, tighten up something underneath Completely erradicated
4) Lousy rear view mirror that makes noise - SC said common, didn't plan to fix they replaced it, much better now, but still not good enough
5) Creaking rear suspensions - SC said changed the absorbers, still creaking now They said it's the parking brake shoes that are causing the sound, didn't fix it
6) Free play in lumbar support - SC said common, but willing to replace the entire driver seat that costs RM4k if i'm still not happy after Raya Didn't replace, just tighten it, much much much better now, but still got a bit sound and "feeling" but I don't plan to pursue this matter anymore
7) Loud and lousy windscreen wipers that didn't work in rain - SC totally ignored, hell, i think i'll get myself a pair of silicon wipers Didn't test, still assessing
8) Slight noise in driver side b-pillar (only when driving on really rough roads) This one i plan to ignore if they can't detect it. Didn't test, still assessing
9) KIA Selayang SC scratched my A, B, C, Z pillar plastic trims they replaced all the ABCZ pillar trims, but now i'm worried when the airbag will burst at my head  blink.gif
10) and also left multiple black grease marks on my ceiling, pillars they replaced all the ABCZ pillar trims
11) and also poked and left some marks on my rear leather seat they ordered the rear seat, to be replaced
12) and also left some prying marks on my dashboard soft plastic trim they tried to press it back, still a bit bulging, i don't plan to pursue any further
13) and also pry-ed and damaged the little plastic covers covering the screws at the door handles (inside ones, not outside) they ordered the little covers, to be replaced

Over all, the chaps at Selayang SC are very helpful and attentive when you are there. The CMD HQ people are really ignorant and unattentive. I'll write in a recommendation letter to the HQ for the Selayang Boys after they fix everything for me.

Say, if all or part of my problems reoccur in the next few days/weeks, do you thing I should go back to KIA or just send them a legal letter/letter of demand? The problems started on the second week of ownership and it took them 10-months to solve a few problems (to be exact, the car was left at the SC for 3-months, and I only kept the car for 6 agonizing months).

So, any fellows here facing similar problems? I think I'm experienced enough to guide you here.
*
Bro, sorry to hear your experiences when dealing with NAZAKIA here.
Hope by letting more and more K5 owner here knows helps to "stimulate" the services from them. smile.gif
Just to share my K5 similar problem that you have :

1) Sunroof noise - NO
2) Noisy vibrating speaker grill on the dashboard - Yes, sometimes can hear it but sometimes not.
3) Really loud seat knocking noise - NO
4) Lousy rear view mirror that makes noise - NO
5) Creaking rear suspensions - NO
6) Free play in lumbar support - NO
7) Loud and lousy windscreen wipers that didn't work in rain - NO
8) Slight noise in driver side b-pillar - NO
