No problemo, glad to help.

I will never pay for the printed copy when subscribers were given free printed hard copies in the early years of As*teruk since 1996 ! Why should we pay now for the printed copy when they also got revenue from advertisers to the magazine.
*
I think I'm still getting the free printed copy of TV guide or is it they forgot to bill me or it could be I didn't notice it was billed to me as I pay by auto debit on yearly basis.. hmm.gif

That's the problem with Assteruk. You need to pay extra RM10 for HD channels. Even TM offers HD channels at no extra cost. Heck, if you don't pay Assteruk they won't even let you use the HDMI output for SD. TM has no such stupidity.

Assteruk's move can even come across as actively discouraging people from adopting HD...

Actually, Singtel was poking fun at Starhub, where one needs to pay S$8.5o access HD channels. (Other than Mediacorp 5 which is free to view.

If u are interested, here are the pricing plans of Starhub. Still expensive compared to Astro though. Cheers.

Do remind that both Starhub & Singtel are both in Cable TV stuff, while Astro is a Satellite TV operator. Cable TV had the advantage of being weather-proof. nod.gif

One shouldn't take the exchange rate into consideration when comparing the prices and cost of living between this two countries. So, Starhub is still actually cheaper compared to Astro smile.gif

The problem with my HD channels is that sometimes the screen blacks out. No display plus no sound. The period for the black outs are random but usually they lasts for about 1 to 3 seconds. Then the display and sound comes back.
*
Are you using your own cable or Assteruk's provided cable?
Try using a different cable (preferably also shorter cable) and see if the problem persists. If yes then try a different HDMI port on the TV and/or a different TV. If still got the problem then confirm decoder defective. But if the problem goes away on different HDMI port on the TV or on different TV, then the TV has damaged HDMI ports and you need to contact the company that made the TV for service.

If assteruk had chosen to use S-Band instead, they would've been mostly weatherproof too.

I say mostly because cable TV not necessary 100% weather proof either. If heavy monsoon rain fall at the "dish farm" (the place where the provider put up dishes to convert satellite signal into CATV/IPTV signal), the service is also cut off if the channel owner is using Ku Band to beam signal to the provider. I've actually seen HyppTV glitch up with some international channels during some heavy monsoon rain days as well.

Under the tie-up, Maxis, the integrated communications service provider, has entered a 10-year partnership with exclusivity for Astro to be the Internet Protocol television (IPTV) content service provider for three years.

Quick Fridge Horror realization for you Assteruk IPTV subscribers on Time BB out there. What happens to Assteruk IPTV on Time BB when Maxis launch their IPTV with Assteruk? hmm.gif
(hint: the danger word is exclusivity)

The argument they gave is most Singaporeans understand English hence nil.

Only Sony One has a dedicated Malay feed on Starhub, obviously targettin at housewives.

Thank you for your suggestion! I will try to use a different HDMI cable and yes, I'm using Assteruk's cable. biggrin.gif

I would hazard a guess that my TV's HDMI ports are ok. I have 4 HDMI ports on my TV. 3 of them are connected. 1 to the Assteruk's decoder, 1 to my Bluray player and 1 to a digital media player. No other ports have displayed any problems and I have tried switching the HDMI ports for Assteruk and the issue is still there. I have also used the last HDMI port to connect to my laptop for gaming sessions and still no issues.

Anyway, I will try using another HDMI cable tonight. Luckily I have one spare one lying about. If that does not solve the issue, Assteruk's customer service is going to get a call from me. tongue.gif

Is the cable shorter? I've actually seen cases where a combination of devices just cannot support long cables (more than 2 meters). The cable is okay because other devices can connect to the display with the cable, but one particular device (Mac Mini) has intermittent blackout like the problem you experienced. Swapping the cable out for a shorted one causes the problem to go away.

That's another thing. Singapore signals are fed as is (in fact, since the transmission facilities for most Asia region channels are in Singapore anyway, I'm guessing many channels on Starhub and Singtel are tapped from the source before the signal even get transmitted to satellites for distribution to the rest of Asia!). Malaysia, well, because of stupid gomen conservative policy, signal is received, decompressed, delayed and most of the time censored (depending on source), recompressed into an inferior codec at lower bitrate (a big no-no) and then retransmitted onto satellite again for assteruk, retransmitted over Internet for DETV, or relayed to Fiber for TM IPTV.

The monthly AstroView Magazine still have the TV channel monthly schedule.

It is not free if we want a printed copy to be sent by post to us, at RM 4.80 per issue. Refer here.. "http://www.astro.com.my/astroview/indices/index_351.html" at the details below the title "SUBSCRIBING TO ASTROVIEW".

It is only free when we want to read (or download) it online at... "http://www.astro.com.my/astroview/indices/index_349.html"... and can download the entire magazine there. For online reading there, go to Page 63 where there is a TV schedule list for 01-08-2012 but its not easy to read the tiny and slightly blur schedule details.

Note : Unfortunately, I tried many times downloading the entire magazine and always got a bad ZIP ... cannot extract the PDF file inside the zipfile. Also... the magazine is still for August 2012 so maybe we can get the September issue a few days later.

The astroview monthly magazine is still mailed to Astro subscribers FOC. But of course, this only applies to old subscribers who sent to reply to Astro before they changed it to a paid subscription. If you have been an Astro subscriber since... late 2005 or 2006 BUT did not complete the form they sent to you by year end, you will not get astroview magazine. Basically it was like an early bird special. If you want to continue to get the magazine for free every month, then you have to complete the form and mail it back to Astro. After the offer period, you still can get the astroview magazine but you'll have to pay for it.

Still not able to extract.Any of you guys able to download and extract the .zip file from pdf ? icon_question.gif
Thanks again smile.gif
