my ping to sgix singapore yielded 195ms just now. not that i really care, but still there is something wrong with the routing.

serious question here, how come my torrents so slow? just now downloaded a file with just 250kBps average speed  blink.gif should i port forward? (i'm on private ip though)

btw, i didn't get charged for extra cabling. by my estimates the cabling was at least 25 meters long, but the technicians just wrote down 15m in the form  biggrin.gif

I've no problem with speed. Torrent download around 1.2mb.

Wow, your luck is good rclxms.gif

All registered the 118 package will enjoy this price until U terminate account.
xDSL linestate down.

this always on my event log but my connection never disconnect. I think this not a problem.

If you stream youtube, you would not notice it because the speed is fast enough to buffer the 20 to 30 seconds downtime. Also if you are reading a stationary web page, you don't feel it too. But if you jump from pages to pages, you will notice the short DC.
I have plenty of "xDSL linestate down" in my log too, sometimes when I click on LYN thread link from another page, my firefox browser occasionally needs more than 10 sec to load up the page, sometime I have to refresh the loading. However in most instances, the browser can load a LYN page instantly within half second.

Spot on! I retrieving reports and I jump fr pages to pages a lot by opening a new tab

It sounds to me a known issue

I now doubt it's firmware as mentioned by the maxis support, since I just installed this Monday

if maxis got less problems, sure cheap and fast, but it thomson router is lousy, keep disconnect, heat problems, etc...

if you wan less problem, unifi is better, even it price is over...

Is there no other router that can be used?
Does the majority of the people here face the same problem? DC's...

I don't know. I got accepted under under the RM118 promotion.
Installation later this month.
I still can cancel it.
So for the next few days I'm going to keep a close eye on this thread.

I don't want to have the same problem as DanielTay.
After 4 hours already problem.

Will everything be better if they give us a new improved router?
Because it seems that the only problem is the router.

Run for your life or you'll hate yourself for subscribing... Imagine problem only after 4 hours installation... And frequent disconnection, a few minutes in between... Even 30 seconds in between disconnection, world record!

Im really sorry to hear this problem.
What did Maxis say about your problem?
How will they solve it?

I'm trying to see if many more people face the same problem as you.

Well, its vary from different person. So far from installation done, I did not face serious problem with maxis. Just a few times of auto reboot with the thomson router this afternoon. After that, other were perfect.

With such attractive price, you couldn't say more about it. I always manage to get the full speed 1.2 during torrent download. Imagine you can download 1GB within 20 minutes cool2.gif

Hi guys,

I just got my Maxis FTTH installed this morning. Here is a quick summary of my experience thus far:

1. The installation team from both TM and Maxis arrived 10 minutes before the scheduled time and it took them approximately 3 hours to complete the installation process.

2. Tested it on Diablo 3 and my latency was 220-235ms.

3. Torrent speed is good too. Speed hovering around 900kbp/s - 1 MB/s

4. No issues with disconnections so far.

So far, I'm very satisfied with the service. biggrin.gif

I think there's a separate thread on replacing the router from Maxis. So far, some forumers have success replacing the router. The only issue is voip since it also comes from the thomson (unlike unifi). A feasible solution to complete remove the Thomson and still have voip is probably to get those VoIP phone adapters like the following:

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/927334/all

Pretty expensive solution for a good replacement router + VoIP adapter. Additional cost of RM400-RM600 for a good one.

I'm still researching around for a viable option...

I can't seem to port forward. I'm on private IP, and whenever I try port forwarding, nothing happens. The ports won't get opened. Anyone can teach me how to port forward? Maybe I'm missing some steps or something.
And I did not change to public IP, just using default private IP that comes with it.
Or is it private IP can't port forward?

look like maxis had block file sharing sites like rapidshare and filefactory
downloading 100M+ file always stop or crash before download completed

mediafire and some lesser people use one can download without problem

tried on both private and public IPs

Really??!!

Are you a free downloader or a premium user?

Will a premium user encounter the same problem?
Any premium user here who can verify?

Thanks

why I always got network error when download from direct download site like megashare, filesear, sendspace, 4shared. My P1 1.2mbps even faster and stable than 10mbps.But torrent download still reasonable.I am using google dns. and one more thing, is that normal to restart the modem to take 5 minutes so long ? and accessing thomsom modem gateway like 56k modem access internet?

Yeah the price is what really made me sign up for this.

But after hearing a couple of people complaining that the wifi signal is bad, it really scares me especially since I live in a semi-d.

I mean c'mon, I'm not using a desktop.
We use laptop, phone and ipad to use the internet.
I live in a semi-d. I shiver at the thought of it (low wifi signal).

Do many of you encounter wifi signal problem?

I will delay the installation until September when my streamyx contract ends.
In the mean time, I want to follow this Maxis and Unifi thread closely to see which is more problematic.
