good luck... your installation type is landed or highrise?

if highrise, will be more faster than landed, because they no need install a new cable from outside telephone pole.

if finished instal,, don't forget to do following :

1. speed test
2. ping test
3. direct download
4. p2p download
5. ftp transfer

share your result after testing, thanks! laugh.gif
*
Good check list. Should perform all tests before signing the job sheet.
I add 2 more tests to the list.

1. speed test
2. ping test
3. direct download
4. p2p download
5. ftp transfer
6. Test the dect phone + voice call to mobile and fixed line.
7. Test the home plugs (if you have one)

Which option of modem and router installation is more practicle and cost savings ? Please discuss.

Option 1: at the tv cabinet in the living area.
Advantage : No need to buy home plug or usb wifi dongle for future iptv or other tv set top box. Better latency and speed using lan cable.

Option 2: Home pc work station in the study room, away from main tv in the living area.

Advantage: ?

I was thinking if i can make full use of the 600 free min per month to divert incoming calls to my maxis mobile and replace the thomson router with a 3rd party router, But unfortunetely CS said MHF fixed line can't do call forwarding. doh.gif

Hi Seyuripa, you can login to Thomson gateway page and on Home page, click Telephony.
There is Configure link on the top right. Click that and you can see Telephony service configured.

Make sure the following:
1. Enabled Telephony is checked.
2. User name uri should be your maxis voip number (Eg: 03xxxxxxxx).
    Port should be ALL.
Status column and Registered column should be Green (V).

If the Registered column shown as Red, goto Edit and specify the password.
The password should be maxis voip number + 1 (Eg: 03233018881). Click Apply.

It should now show as Green on the Registered column and the Maxis Thomson device light on Phone 1 and Phone 2
slot would be Solid Green. Please check that. If everything ok, test outgoing and incoming call.

If the Status column shown as Red, call up the Maxis FTTH support: 1800-82-4663.
The Customer service would be able to help you.

Hope this helps!

Call forwarding is not enable in the Thomson router I believe. Unfortunately I not into
hacking of this Thomson router. You may google for it.

Sorry, I can't help you much on this.
*
I think it has got nothing to do with the router, it is by way of programing some digits on the dect phone keypad.
I was able to call forward YES VoIP 018 to maxis mobile using its YES Life soft phone key pad. So i believe MHF fixedline should be able to call forward too.

DrPitchard, you have any idea on how to call forwarding MHF fixed line to Maxis mobile ?

Added on July 6, 2012, 5:45 pmThomson Wifi router installed at the ground floor living area in the frontal part of a double storey house.
Upper floor front bedroom can detect 60% of wifi signal using iPad and HTC sensation XE, however the upper floor bedrooms at the back can only detect 10% of Wifi signal sometimes undetected. iPad or smart phone become useless in the upper floor bedroom at the back.

The Wifi signal strength of Thomson router is very very weak. mad.gif

Maxis technician connected the voip line to your alarm system ? For my case, they couldn't be bothed, they just said "
Alarm ? saya tak tahu" when asked.

My 1st day user experience with Maxis Home Fiber was not satisfactory.
Can't use wifi ipad and wifi phone at first floor.
Internet connection keep DC. Skype calls interupted due to continuos intermittent DC.
Need to load quite a while in a white blank page before a link of a web site was fully displayed even for pages from lowyat forum which is usually very fast loading.

Thomson WIFI problem??
*
Yes, really problematic router.
The internet line itself was fine, the router is the only culprit for all the complaints.

QUOTE(jasondell @ Jul 7 2012, 11:59 AM)
Is there's any specific location I must install the modem? Or I can install it wherever I want ? My installation is coming this week !
*
I recommend you install at a place as far as possible from the outdoor connector within the free standard installation before they cut the indoor fiber cable. Once cut, the lenght of the indoor fiber cable is fixed and you better make sure the lenght is enough to cover other areas if you change your mind on location of modem and router in the future.

I place the modem/router on the tv cabinet in the living area for streaming online hd tv from media player using lan cable. Saving the cost of homeplug (rm200), saving the cost usb wifi dongle for media player, saving electricity to run the homeplug, saving space, saving 2 power points, advoid additional messy wires, better viewing experience compare to wifi.

Found another problem with the Thomson router.
When only one wifi device connected to the router, no DC. However when more than one wifi devices connected to the router, internet connection keep DC repetitively.

i complaint to Maxis CS on my alarm cannot call out. All my alarm setting has been perfectly done & able to call using TM. If Maxis cannot call out, Maxis need to improve. They promise 1 month to resolve this issue. Still waiting now....
*
I doubt home alarm is within Maxis's responsibility.
Other options i can think of are Either we keep the tm number or add a gsm modem to the home alarm system or change the alarm motherboard which support gsm sim card.
Of course it will be better if Maxis home VoIP line can be compatible with legacy home alarm system using analog pstn line.

Anyone here using wireless adapter....what speed did u get?
For my i using TP-Link wn-821n only get 54Mbps....got anyway i can get better speed for it....
Thank You
*
I'm using those wifiSky or GSky USB wifi(g) adapters with 7" high gain antenna to overcome the problem of the weak Thomson's wifi signals. The wifi signal for the ground floor PC (same floor with Thomson router) was full bar with excellent signal and the speed is at the max 54.0Mps.
Whereas the second PC located upstairs was also showing 90% signal strength but the speed keep fluctuate from 1Mps, 11Mps, 38Mps.

My media player was connected to Thomson router via LAN cable and streaming the 1080p HD video over the internet from the built-in Youtube app and PPS app on the HD TV was smooth and clear.
Will probably ditch Astro soon.. rclxms.gif

Maxis installation completed today

appointment 9:30am
- not on time, so was calling 1800 to ask at 10am
- while waiting for someone to answer from the customer service, they called me instead and tell me sorry for the delay, their engineer on the way up to my condo
- ask him about TM engineers, maxis engineer say they are already here at the communication room doing the necessary
- 10:30am TM engineer came up
- Both party does their settings
- 11am officially connected to Maxis Fiber
- Maxis did some speedtest for record and reporting purpose (via LAN), i saw the speed was fine, hovering 9-10Mbps for both upload and download
- ping was about 35ms, didn't know which server he chose though
- i did some speedtest using my phone over wifi, got roughly the same upload and download and ping was around 24-29ms

haven't got time to really test the stability out. Hopefully everything is ok.

Can your phone/tablet detect adequate Wifi signal from the furthest point away from Thomson router in your house ?

Observe this issue:
When few wifi devices connected to the network, it takes 5 to 10 seconds in white blank page to load up a web page link, sometimes immediate load up, sometimes waited till time out and page unavailable.

how much per month? what channel available?

No monthly fee. Just buy the player and that is it.

QUOTE(phantasm0110 @ Jul 9 2012, 02:17 PM)
that media player, support using what chipset? realteck or sigma? can play full hd file and rmvb files without trouble?
*
The chipset is undisclosed by the service provider. I can play most file types including 1080p MKV, and rmvb. It is just like any other media player but with the additional feature such as proprietary UI and apps, shortcuts and the best being the service provider search for the free and popular contents in the internet then organised, catogerised and update nicely for the users periodically. Also, it comes with 1800 toll-free customer support.

Worked with Maxis Home Fiber flawlessly for online contents using LAN. Can also use Aztech USB wifi dongle if LAN is not an option.

Goto to the furthest point in your house away from thomson router and test the wifi signal using your wifi mobile phone.

Hi, I'm a fence sitter here.
So I really need to know user's experience.

Did you mean
"anything as good"
or
"anything as bad"?
*
The LAN connection is quite consistent but the WIFI connection is damn erratic, up-down up-down like yo-yo.
As per feedback gathered from the past postings, the Thomson router is the only problem, not the fiber service line.
