I was given Alcatel Lucent BTU which does not have a user interface like Huawei sad.gif Anyone knows how to telnet or access the BTU so I can use my own router for data?
*
according to unifi thread alcatel lucent modem has been block with firewall
no way to access it from user site...
you need a vlan tagging capable device nod.gif

I manage to configure my Mikrotik router to make a connection and it works smile.gif The problem is, I cannot use VOIP because the phone port is connected to the Thomson router. Any ideas how I can get VOIP working?

If that is the case then I need to logon into Thomson and turn off DHCP and change it's IP address sad.gif I can't seem to find the right command to change the IP address for Thomson router. I wonder why they give us all these troubles, sigh.

Guys, does your internet get disconnected randomly?
Mine does like no internet for few mins, then back to normal.
Check the Thomson router and all lights are green. Internet and LAN green blinking.
Wonder those using 3rd party router encountering same issue or not.

I thought your router was unable to connect? U managed to get it working again?

Yes. But u need to use other firmware like ddwrt or openwrt. But can't use VoIP. Unless u modify the Huawei use port3 to conect the voip

So right now only TP-Link TL-WR1043ND with Openwrt will be able to route the VoIP to Thomson router.

Ok, this is how I use my WRT54GL router with Maxis FTTH if you have  Huawei HG850a GPON device. I assume it's mainly for landed properties.

Basically I followed all the instructions in this guide by rizanvp: http://unifi.athena.my/mikrotik_rb250gs.php

The difference is on the VLAN tagging, which is done as below:

user posted image
(click for larger version)

Maxis has a lot VLAN's used, but the main ones should be:

621 Home Fiber Internet
822 VOIP
823 IPTV (apparently)

Possible to define more than those listed, but not sure how to go about it for now.

Following that, the port assignment. This assumes that;
Port 1 = Huawei HG850a
Port 2 = Your router
Port 3 = VOIP device
Port 4 = IPTV.

After setting that, connect your own custom router as usual and enjoy biggrin.gif

Gotta love those delicious bandwidth graphs in Tomato!

TODO: Find out how to use VoIP in this setup. Unfortunately, my router is not a SIP device, but I assume if you have a SIP-enabled device, you can tag VLAN 621 and 822 on the same port to allow SIP connection.

If follow what bro kurogane did, than need to add another microtik device in between the tm modem and our own router, it's troublesome loh.... hmm.gif
If wanna use the voip than need to plug in the thomsom router to microtik, later IPTV come than 1 more device....
total 5 device liao....once u saw those wire sure headache liao... rclxub.gif
is better to just connect the custom router direct to tm modem just like what other user did by using tp-link router with openwrt firmware, only need to connect 4 device max...

if you go for openwrt you will lose warranty for you device blush.gif
flashing firmware has a risk of bricking your device and not really newbie friendly
i'm just giving a choice for people that does not want to have hassle of using custom firmware...
there is also Asus router that works with default firmware if you want to minus the device clutter.

TM is paranoid about user accessing their BTU especially the FTTH ones due to the security weaknesses involved in passive optical architecture setup.

The concern lies within the information exposure if a person manages to log into their BTU because the person could gather many things about its VLAN IDs for various services, bind them separately to get more bandwidth, share internet access accounts and even steal your VoIP accounts to make IDD/other network calls.

Now here's the suggestion.

Since they are so paranoid about letting users touch their BTU or temination unit which they claim it's their sole property for access, they why not untag everything at the BTU itself?

It already has 4 ethernet ports(all u need is 2 ports -1 for internet and the other for IPTV), with FXS phone ports.

From there on it's all up to the user to buy whatever router device they want to plug in with no restrictions or requirements to do VLAN untagging.

Why must VLAN untagging be done by the home gateway instead of the BTU?
The reason why the non official guide at page 1 aims to do this which is to untag the packets at a specific port so you can plug in any of your routers to it.

Erichhl,
My friend tried with his MicroTik(+Wifi) to Internet. No problem. But VoIP not working. The setup is BTU<-->MicroTik+Wifi(Internet), LAN Port<-->Thomsom Router(WAN)<-->Phone1, no dialtone at all.
Do you have a guide on how to setup the MicroTik to have VoIP via Thomson router?

Guys, I have an Asus RT-N16 with Shibby's Tomato firmware but couldn't get it to work with the Huawei ONT (HG8240). I follow this settings:
