1.better stability
2.more option that a advance user can play with & having full control of the router
3.already have a router that suits the users and dislike the thomson router

Thanks. Instead of connecting directly to TM modem, why not make use of any existing router, change the router connection type to AP mode then connect LAN to LAN with the Thomson and still have VoIP working + two wireless SSIDs or switch off the Thomson wifi radio ? Any disadvantage in this alternative option compare to the first option ?

I would love to use my Mikrotik router over the original Thomson router given by Maxis. I manage to configure my Mikrotik router to establish a connection with the BTU but my problem is, I can't get my VOIP phone working because the port is on the Thomson router sad.gif

I'm using thomson too 24*7 for over 18 months... there is no disconnection issues, at least not as rampant as you guys claim it to be...

I think it is case to case basis. Some people stack the BTU and router, place it in a hot/pack area, etc. As usual, any IT related component if exposed to long term heat will cause it to be unstable and malfunction.

My advice is NOT to stack the BTU/router and try to put it in a place where it's exposed to open air. This is recommended if you want to turn it on 24/7

Perhaps the dining area is just right below the router and the signal is below 50% ??

yup you can say the dining is just below the cabinet, consider a concrete slap in between plus the staircase is position at the side of the house (not right in the middle), I would say the signal is just good enuf to stay online downstairs..

nevertheless, most of my online media downstairs are on cat5e to the HP proserve giga switch... so I don't really bother much about wifi signal downstairs...

I've somehow managed to get the connection to my Maxis Home Fibre through the Asus RT-N13U with DD-WRT custom firmware.

However, the speed is limited to max 5MB. I am not sure why, though.

bro, have u try to change tagging the 621 to other port instead of wan port, but cable remain plug in to the default port.
cause i suspect something wrong with the shibby firmware...
my router in shibby firmware default for vlan 1 should mark on wan but it goes to port 4, even i change it to wan but restart router it goes back to port 4.
u can c it inside the spoiler
