I think it will depend on who will be interviewing you. If it's someone from the technical side, they probably would be impressed. But if it's someone from the HR side, then I'm not sure it's going to be well accepted.

But if you still want to give it a try, maybe try bringing up the idea first during the interview, just to gauge the response. All in all it's still a risky thing to do, so it's best to get some sort of permission before doing it.

So, it was advisable to make it during interview instead prior of the interview. I'm thinking to leave some dummy data into the databases or say hello inside any pages within the extranet environment since it will take some effort to penetrate into the system. By the way, noted that advised, it'll keep me out from the jail ... notworthy.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

Are you seeking forth something or just merely sharing something? I don't know what were you trying to say.

I went to several interviews recently and most of the interview lasted for 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Is this normal? sweat.gif
Anyway,my problem here is that I've got several positive responds from some employers and I'm also waiting for answers from some other places. unsure.gif but I'm not sure how to decline the offer given by some of these employers, they are so pleasant and really nice sad.gif

I'm also opting for this one particular place and even attended the interview but the boss told me that he will only decide by end of next week sweat.gif at the same time,I have to give my respond to some of the employers by this week doh.gif what a dilemma doh.gif

attended a interview today and might i say its complete opposite of what i expected.started with the usual stuff then the gm(he was the one conducted the session today)said this will be a reverse of a normal interview.

he did all the talking, explaining the whole lot, the whole story, occasional brief comments, interactions from me, and then its up to the candidates to contact the company back to arrange 2nd interview if they still want to pursue that job. i think the 2nd one is where the real interview begins...where this time the candidates is expected to deliver their side of the whole lot.

in a sense it is a stage's interview just done in a different way.so what you guys think??can share any insight or experience with similair interview calls before? smile.gif

im still interested in the job tho, since am jobless right now and would grab what ever comes biggrin.gif

I think HR is not present so the GM had to do the interview.

mm im not that sure about their hr dept but from they way the gm spoke and handled the session i think he wants to be the one selecting candidates.the guy is gm by title but also the main man running the show there, not just the managing part but the actual engineering part too.

This is very unusual. It is amazing that such a busy man can spent time in one way talking then let the candidate decide. I will go with your hunch, "in a sense it is a stage's interview just done in a different way".

once had this kind of interview. the manager did all the talking and explaining about the jobscope. she said it's going to be a very tough job, working late and etc. she sent me home and asked me to think over it. whether i want to take the job or not. if yes, i must give a call and she will arrange a second interview with the GM. i did called telling that i am still interested and ready to face all the challenge and stress. she said she will call back to set the date. and that was the last time i heard from that company. i never called back also..

Got a call today from HSBC during my busy evening Cisco training. I didn't applied for it but I believed my information was passed to them by MDEC (Multimedia Development Corporation). Not much of info except my name and my highest qualification.

I've never intended to working in the bank industry but since this is my second phone interview call, I took it as a learning processes. I answered the call and the HSBC representative request to do a short telephone interview with me. I asked them where they get my information and the person clarified it. By the way, this is my second phone interview but last time is quite successful and smooth due to the representative from Jenjobs (outsource to Exxon Mobil) already e-mail me the information regarding the job. I did received a good evaluation and feedback that time but I've to rejected it due to other commitment.

Due to I'm not prepared for any interview and focusing on my 3 months training, I've updated my status to only be available by May 2012. Ok, back to the business.

First of all is to explained about myself, why should they hire me ... general question, so even still blur, I still can answered the question .

But then, she questioned about my SPM result which already more than a decade. Got a problem to answer this and took some time to remember as they want the accurate detail. The representative then explained about the benefit, working hours and fixed salary ... lower than my expected salary. I only say its fine

Then, the main question .. what do I know about HSBC? This time I'm doomed ... I only know HSBC is a bank ... in my mind I can't differentiate Hong Leong Bank and HSBC .. dunno why ... that's it, I'm quite again and keep stuttering when answering .. whistling.gif . Then, the gold question that make me couldn't think anything and blur ... how do I deliver customer services value to the customer. Never in my mind to ever think about working in service line and what depict in my mind is as a job as Helpdesk .. by imagining working as operator in Telekom or Maxis, I talked about Helpdesk job and confused the representative .. and considering the interview session, totally it is my fault for not making a good impression, lack of knowledge and weak on English communication. The representative then with a sarcasm told me about the needs to improve my English and do apply after 3 month at the end of the conversation.

But, here is my question, regardless of either they want to asses my English or not ... isn't that at least I should be given some times or clue about the jobs offered or the company that's going to call me ? Perhaps 24 hours before the interview so I can mentally prepare? hmm.gif

QUOTE(-XIII- @ Dec 10 2011, 11:12 PM)
I went to an interview on tuesday and the employer said he would let me know by next week, but I ask him can I know by friday because I have an offer from another company pending (he know about I got an offer as 'position B' in another company, just that it isn't the position/role i wanted), then he said ok he will let me know on friday.

So yesterday I waited whole day and didn't receive any email from him, so I emailed and ask him instead. He ask if he could let me know on monday, then I said cannot because of same reason. So he said he would have to let me go then.

The scenario is like this, This employer really like me for this particular position A, but currently position A is fulled but he has an upcoming project but only starts on April, which mean he doesn't need me in position A until April. But, because of my past employment experience as position B, he want to put me in position B first until April and I don't mind. But now his position B also really full.  sad.gif

My question is,
1) Actually is it okay to let them know we have other offer or which other company we went for interview?
2) When he asked can he let me know on monday, does it really make any different if I didn't push him but wait for his answer on monday instead? but tuesday until friday already 4 days... sweat.gif
3) I told him I can start work on the beginning of Jan, should I ask him if I wait another month will he hire me? meaning start work on february.. wil I sound too desperate? will he think I lied to him about another other offer? (but actually I did not lie)

Please advice, I really want this job and this company  cry.gif

(1) Just like relationships..When ur single, no-one wants you; when ur N/A, everyone suddenly wants you instead. rclxub.gif its a double edged sword.. I was able to use it to get hired fast.. cos I did attend those interviews I went.. have proof in emails/jobstreet schedules to substantiate.. the rationale is wah, this joker landed so many interviews, must be something good.

however, some companies interpret "u already have a job" as a reason to not give you a job doh.gif

Your written english is not the best but it is better than the average malaysian. Asking you to improve your english may not be fair as you are caught off guard resulting in stuttering. If your spoken english is really that bad that an interviewer criticized you then take it constructively.

On the state of readiness, you should also after this incident be ready at all times. Once your resume is out, you should expect interview invitation anytime even after you landed yourself with a job. There is nothing wrong with being ever-ready. It is your name that is sweeping the floor when you are not prepared. IF not ready just say "I am employed now but I am interested in your offer. Can I call you back, I am rushing something for my boss". If they say no, you lost nothing. It beats giving a poor impression.

Thanks faceless for the feedback and advice notworthy.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif . I will try to prepare in advance in the future even though I'm not expecting it.

But in phone interview, what is the best practice to answer the interviewer regarding what is the company A and what did they do(assuming third party applied the job for the applicant and the applicant know nothing) ? I've read somewhere, they will feel humiliated when the interviewee didn't know anything about the company ... hmm.gif

do u guys prefer to reveal your expectation salary when the interviewer ask direct question like What is your expectation Salary? Will you pause and rather ask them back what's their expected salary for your qualification and work the increment from that benchmark?
