I was adviced by my classmates (Petronas interviewer) today that khakis pants should not be used during interview? I wonder why? For years I thought Khakis and slack is similar thing ... hmm.gif

1) How can they be the same? Are they not different material?
2) Khakis is not suitable office wear. Dont ask me why. I guess I share their opinion. You can call me a conservative d*** head if you want.
3) Khakis usually had some element of fashion.

Please get a book on/google up "office grooming".

For me, if the candidate is clean and presentable, there is no reason why khakis is not allowed.

For engineering firm, khakis are generally accepted.

Petronas is engineering too. Yet they can come up with this statement. I guess they are trying to say please be formal for the interview. You can use your khaki for the field.

Hi,

I've been asked to cite referees for my job application. I'm just wondering how often companies contact referees when it comes to hiring entry level fresh graduates.

Can any HR people here share some insights ?

Sometime you get a job, thought it is a good choice but turn out to be a scam....

Which is why you need to really do your research about the company background and products beforehand.

To be safe, just stick to the big names and you shouldn't have these issues.

Usually they put ex-lecturers and relatives. Its not really useful because most lecturers wont even remember you.

I would say best 2 referees:
1) the lecturer of your FYP
2) the supervisor during your internship

champion! you should not do that, unless you already resigned.

Well these are exactly the people who I listed as referees. But will the companies contact them if they were overseas ? Or would it be necessary to list at least one person from Malaysia ? And do companies actually contact referees when hiring fresh graduates ?

I went to an interview on tuesday and the employer said he would let me know by next week, but I ask him can I know by friday because I have an offer from another company pending (he know about I got an offer as 'position B' in another company, just that it isn't the position/role i wanted), then he said ok he will let me know on friday.

So yesterday I waited whole day and didn't receive any email from him, so I emailed and ask him instead. He ask if he could let me know on monday, then I said cannot because of same reason. So he said he would have to let me go then.

The scenario is like this, This employer really like me for this particular position A, but currently position A is fulled but he has an upcoming project but only starts on April, which mean he doesn't need me in position A until April. But, because of my past employment experience as position B, he want to put me in position B first until April and I don't mind. But now his position B also really full. sad.gif

My question is,
1) Actually is it okay to let them know we have other offer or which other company we went for interview?
2) When he asked can he let me know on monday, does it really make any different if I didn't push him but wait for his answer on monday instead? but tuesday until friday already 4 days... sweat.gif
3) I told him I can start work on the beginning of Jan, should I ask him if I wait another month will he hire me? meaning start work on february.. wil I sound too desperate? will he think I lied to him about another other offer? (but actually I did not lie)

Please advice, I really want this job and this company cry.gif

Shake hand is no big deal. Do or do not will not make a difference. Since you meeting japanese bow will be better.
