Also bro steven gor can add the IOD switch issues on the "Things To Take Note During Inspection":

QUOTE
user posted image
IOD SWITCH OPERATION:
The 2011 Elantra is equipped with a smart junction box in the instrument panel. This component electronically controls the functions of the body electrical system rather than the electro-mechanical controls in previous models. The Smart Junction Box allows the ignition off current draw to be regulated rather than being continuously on or off.

The smart junction box uses an IOD relay to control various functions after the switch is placed in the OFF position:
A. After 20 minutes: The Interior Lamps, Trunk Lamp, ATM Key Lock, Photo Sensor, Immobilizer and Door Warning Switches are disabled.
B. After 24 hours: The TPMS, Instrument Cluster, Data Link Connector (DLC), Powertrain Control Module (PCM), Reverse Light, Digital Clock, Seat Belt Reminder Light, Power Outlet, and Air Conditioning are disabled.
C. After 4 weeks: The Audio and Navigation memories are disabled.
If the key is used to unlock the doors or start the vehicle, the cycle restarts with all functions enabled.

The switch should be ON when you collect your car.

In factory they turn it OFF during the storage period to save battery life.

Many cars also doesn't have it (some say new Euro NCAP policy). If cant get SC to enable it. Then have to get used to it by manual.

Don't know all the exact cost yet. Just roughly know carpet around 100, change number light to white LED + wiring, socket and bulb around 100. No plate 60. 6mil security tint 1500.

About the absent of 'auto-lock' feature, what does it exactly mean? I ask this question because my car (not Elantra), will automatically lock all doors after moving. BUT the doors can still be opened from inside. It only prevents the doors from be opened from outside. For child-lock, there's a switch on the driver's door. Even after child-lock is activated, only the rear doors will be totally locked (from inside and outside). Both front doors can still be opened.

So, is it also the same for Elantra?

You can try Speedo Auto since they are very familiar with Korean cars. biggrin.gif
Their shop is located over at Skudai.
Or else u can try asking accessories shops I guess, this is quite simple for them.
But make sure they don't cut any wires thumbup.gif

SA don't know everything la .. as long as we don't touch the existing wiring it won't void.
we r using the existing plug with remaining two slot as mentioned by heng84. so no worries.
u can take out the wiring and it be like original if u don't want it. biggrin.gif

yes..i am from penang island. the shop is called dream kool located at Jalan Gurdwara. They have everything except paint coating. Hyundai Sg.Pinang send all their car to do number plate, remove logo, tinting etc at that shop. So they quite familiar with Hyundai car.

I forgot to censored my number plate earlier, some forumer might seen it. tongue.gif My plate is PKN with 2 digits.

Btw, changed the rear number plate light from original orange light to white LED makes hell lots of different.

I'm guessing your concern is on the car boot lock. Did you try putting the smart key far away, and try opening the boot from the button at the boot (above the back number plate). Just tested on mine, seems to work. As in, the boot is still locked with the smart key nowhere near the car. I remember my SA mentioned the boot lock works the same as the front doors.

no he got it right. What he means is the lock only works if the key is not present.

I admit I didn't know that. I also think it's a stupid ass function that complicates things for no good reason.

Now u got me confused sweat.gif
Is the car locked in the first place?
If the car is not locked and u r in the car, by right u should have just used the latch under the seat.
U mean if the car is not locked and u r NOT in the car, u must put the key far far away to use the boot button at the back? Logic also if not it will assume u wanna activate the alarm again?

The concern here is to make sure the boot is properly locked, hence to have the key far away. If the key is nearby, you can open the boot with the back button regardless whether the doors are locked or otherwise. At least this is what I'm experiencing.

rclxub.gif
It's also logic if someone is with the key, he/she can always unlock the boot using button right. If wanna lock after close the boot, afraid must press the key control, or walk in front press the driver door button
Guess its a design decision rather than a bug
Since both of u experienced same scenario, then it's by design wink.gif

Hmm you brought up an interesting question. Can we open the boot from the back button if the key is IN the car and the doors are locked? That would not be safe now would it? Gonna try that out in the morning.

No u can't. U also cannot start the engine if u forgot that ur key is in a bag in the trunk. It must be with u, in the pocket maybe. Actually it's for ur own safety to have the sensing distance as minimal as possible to prevent hijacking. And not to give u false sense u have the key with u when it is actually in the trunk wink.gif
Already tested those scenarios with my SA in the showroom rclxms.gif

haha sorry bro, my car always park indoor one, very hard to spot me on the road.
yes..i am from penang island. the shop is called dream kool located at Jalan Gurdwara.

I will definitely visit that shop once/if I get my ride. But currently waiting for loan to approve. Pray hard..

As far as i know, when the engine ignited and driver get out of the car with the keyfob, there'll be a period of signal.

however, wonder if anyone tested getting out of the car with the keyfob and ask someone else to try "hijacking" the car and drive it away. i'm curious... hmm.gif

Just to check wt everyone here whether have any issue on the white paint? During the launch, i felt something is not right to the white paint which which is not smooth, you'll feel abit dotted / dusty spray mix wt white paint.

When i ask SA, they said they didn't polish it. But it didn't happen to silver.

I'm suspecting that the gearbox can only do so much; it's probably more tied to the engine capacity instead?

that bad ah? that's what I was really worried bout, bad handling and noisy...

Which car are u comparing against by the way?
*
I'm not comparing with other car and Im not using it to race, I drive it like normal long distance cruising around 120-140, straight road ok..closest to what I have driven the handling feels like a harrier, have not driven a forte civic or altis so my opinion might be different from the others or maybe I'm not used to the electric steering pls don't shoot me , I hope other owners here can share

just to share a story, last week went to kl seeing my sweetheart, test drove elantra 1.8 at glenmarie n feel this is surely be my 1st car, my gf also picked an elantra from a random folded papers (we wrote a list of car which is on our list including elantra, forte, preve, honda, mazda3, inspira, etc)~just for fun laugh.gif

Most of the SC won't allow cause like u mentioned they wanna earn extra for the oil too.

Unless u do like my kelik, give them your oil but still pay for the semi n take it back n sell it off. Cause my kelik wanna use full sync oil.

vapor from the spray and the pressured can itself is extremely flammable.. silicon in itself is quite stable at high temperature but it IS flammable

Anyone know where can view Santorini Blue up close in KL/PJ?? I abandoned black color and wanna change to sleek/hyper. saw hyper yesterday but my missus not convinced. she prefer sporty color and wanna look at actual santo blue before making up her mind for the very last time. saw a photo of santo blue posted in FB but the color looked so drab and dull, unlike some images from other website where the color is striking.

hi guys, my gf's bro just got his car from penang hyundai. i followed him there and apparently they have ready stocks for white and silver, therefore waiting time is around 10-14 days. just to inform those who are interested. By the way, its the Hyundai which is near to BMW centre. Discount RM200, free all logos, free full tank and RM200 tint discount. ready stocks are 1.6, 1.8 not sure. my gf's bro waited for 1 month i think as he changed from sg.pinang branch to this one.

ehehe bro steven, i think you replied the wrong person.. biggrin.gif i'm more into hyper silver tongue.gif
btw bro steve, since you've been driving hyundai cars longer than most of us here, i believe you will be the best person to advise on the cost of spare parts and service. would appreciate your advise on the availability and also the 'cost' of parts. With so many 3s centres being setup by SD, can we assume that there will be better availability (and cheaper) for parts?

anyway.. bro bufung.. how is your decision like?? biggrin.gif i have removed one option from my list liao.. the FD1.8 no more stock due to the impending arrival of the 2012 civic in June shakehead.gif

I have mentioned in FB that the blue in this photo looks drab and dull. Not striking enough. Maybe due to lighting and angle. That is why have to see up close. have not heard anyone gotten their santo blue. Heard from my SA there is one in HQ but not sure if he can arrange for me to view it.

Opss .. sorry .. wrong replied. doh.gif

I don't actually have any major warranty claim issue to begin with.
Drove my Accent for 7 years and no major issues which I need to claim warranty.
I went to a small dealer shop and they are very fast in delivering the goods or spare parts too.
They didn't asked me to come back next week cause need to wait for the parts.

As for the quality of the services, cannot compare to T & H professionalism over at their 3S lo.
Hyundai SC is picking up since the first day I was there. Not as good as T & H but at least they are improving.
Never been to Hyundai 3S and try before so i can't comment on that.

Small dealers more flexible and I can talk with the main mechanic and boss (discounts!!) so I know what is happening to my car. If you are really close to the mechanic like i did, I brought my own air filters, air cond filters (believe me this is not cheap at all, center charges 300++ I bought less than 50) break pads and some other stuff for them to change when the boss is not in. thumbup.gif whistling.gif

Pls take note cars like this would have parked under the sun in the rain for a while. Whatever shine it has is gone. Just bring it to any detailer shop to bring the shine back. Best is the see OTR as owners would already have done that.

vapor from the spray and the pressured can itself is extremely flammable.. silicon in itself is quite stable at high temperature but it IS flammable

guess that is what the "At your own risk. LOL!!" is for  biggrin.gif
Exactly! Flammable.

I usually spray an elaborated amount of silicone lub after a wash (aka very cold engine), then hose down the excessive lub to leave just a thin layer on the surfaces.

The 'oily' surface may be a magnet for dust but frequent cleaning for the first week will reduce than to minimum level.

Best part is, the thin layer lasts very very long. So next wash is just a simple hosing without any detergent or brushing.

I use sunlight and a paint brush to clean the engine bay.

It's not re-approve, it's just part of the procedure. When a car sales is concluded and ready to deliver, the seller (SD) has to pay the excise duty and sales tax to G, so this what SD has to do. But it should not take long to clear this.

18" if u can fit into the Elantra, u need freaking slim profile tyre....

Wt this setup, every time go going through a bump or even a pot hole, u have to drive extreme slow...
A simple mistake may cost u not just the tyre.. Maybe the rim too...

Then... U have to kful ur suspension mounting can support the force/impact for such a rim in the cash of u going throw such bump with some speed or not....

Then, not sure SD will warranty ur lower arm and drive shalf for such a size rim or not... But for sure, life span of the drive shalf surely shorter...

FC... From 16 to 18... U have to pay maybe 15-20% more? Not sure... Depend on where n how u drive too...
Compare to smaller rim, sure noisier for bigger rim.. If similar tyre...

U will change tyre more frequent too... smile.gif

Good luck man... For the good looking....

Theory apply to good looking girl too? Lol

BF, that's y I still so out of place in the fb group. They keep talking bout pimp their rides, while I talk about maintenance.

1 , 2 settled by SA. 3 already have my trusty stop lock pro. Will not go down those permanent installed locks (locktech was the hot item then). The rattle it makes 6 mths down the road can kill me. I know, coz I had 2 units installed on different cars.

Do we need to do tyre balancing after getting the car ?

I find the test drive unit very noisy when speed above 80.

Any 1.8 owner change their original MC5 tyre ?

My kelik very recommend that for 17". For 16" I might go for C.Drive 2 which is cheaper than Ps3 n xm2. Again kelik said c.drive 2 is very soft and almost the same as ps3 but price differs a lot.

1 , 2 settled by SA. 3 already have my trusty stop lock pro. Will not go down those permanent installed locks (locktech was the hot item then). The rattle it makes 6 mths down the road can kill me. I know, coz I had 2 units installed on different cars.

I will receive my car this Thursday. My SA give me Ray Tech Black 4mil tints. Now I am still thinking whether I want to upgrade to Ray Tech 85 Grey 5mil or not. I also got low interest rate plus goodies. Now searching for coating. Tomorrow I want to tender number. Hopefully I will get the number I want. Tail light I will do this weekend.

Wanna do for me? Hahaha.

Btw WWS 6001-9999 still have. Starting bid is RM210. I pay RM50 to the runner. I am interested with WWW but I have same issue. No time for Puspakom inspection and JPJ.

So PS3 is the best for 215/45/17 ? I straight away change if tomorrow or thursday can get the car.

But if not much different from MC5 then i am screwed. tongue.gif

I believe some of you already started the 1k or 5k service? How do you guys find the Hyundai Service quality? And the cost?

Hi all Sifu, anyone has compare the elantra 1.8 to civic 1.8 in terms of high speed stability (=>110kmh) ? Saw several comment here and there about floaty feeling at high speed, but the comment is too objective.

I have to admit, there is some kind of floaty feeling for elantra, be it medium speed or high speed. not comparing with civic, but with my previous perdana V6.

maybe it's because elantra's suspension is soft and the car is heavy, but the comfortness is great. everyone that i took for ride in the car confirm fall asleep, including the driver hehe. Perdana on the other hand, has firmer suspension hence the handling is better but the passengers can feel the discomfort when go through unlevelled road.

the tyre noise is (1.8) quite significant during highway cruise. probably, because the NVH is so good that the tyre sound is perceived as making the only noise.

torsion beam rear suspension.. kinda expected. plus others are saying the steering feedback is pretty poor. i guess should get better tyres to be safe.. i'm kinda surprised there is still significant tyre noise since CMC5 is suppose to be quiet and comfy.. maybe as you said, the wind nvh is good, so localising the noise to the tyres.. smile.gif

That's what i am suspecting, becoz it's so quiet inside, the tyre noise become very noticeable.

So, should I change the tyre ?

well..CMC5 is supposedly for quiet and comfy, so not sure what other tyres will be quieter.. anyway, how much do you think you can get back from trading in the CMC5??
