Hi all Sifu, anyone has compare the elantra 1.8 to civic 1.8 in terms of high speed stability (=>110kmh) ? Saw several comment here and there about floaty feeling at high speed, but the comment is too objective.

the 5.9L/100KM really  thumbup.gif  thumbup.gif
really proves that the car can do 40mpg as advertise in US.
my current 1.5 Accent the best i do only 6L/100KM and that is cruising NSE.  sweat.gif
*
That is 1.6 figure, still don't know about 1.8 yet... 40MPG is rated for 1.8.

Just watched in youtube someone is doing about 5l/100km which is 47MPG ! ohmy.gif Maybe need sometime to run in the engine. Elantra 2011 Fuel Economy

The US fuel economy i think is based on a different engine right? the GDI
*
US never get GDI... They don't even have 1.6, only 1.8nu MPI. Please refer to Hyundai USA Elantra Spec. Correct me if I am wrong.

guys, we dun use MPG (miles per Gallon)
we use KM/L (kilometer per liter)

may confuse some forum readers...

Yea you are right, we use to km/l or l/100km laugh.gif

40 mpg = 5.88 l/100km = 17.01km/l

Wana ask elantra weight much more lighter due to the door built partially with aluminum rather than steel rite?
So it will feels abit floating compare to other C-segment cars! Plz correct me! Maybe other cars nowadays using same build in quality.
*
Elantra is around 1268kg, civic 8th gen is around 1240kg and Altis 1.8G is around 1270kg. It is not exactly lighter than other C-segment.

However, when I test drive, I feel than 1.8 is more planted than 1.6. I never drove a Civic or Altis before so I am not sure how do they compare in terms of stability and driving feel.

Yup bcoz of rim and tyre. 1.8 comes with continental max contact. The name says it all. Get rid of nct5 ASAP. Useless tyre
Thanks, looking forward for your feedback rclxms.gif M

If I remember correctly, new cars tyre pressure is pumped much higher than spec from factory, maybe this is also the reason of the floating feel? (heard this from myforte forum)

then wat should be the correct tyre pressure??
*
Not sure for ours, I haven't gotten my car, but the recommended tyre pressure should be stated beside the seat near the door area?
If refer to US Elantra 2011 Owner Manual, both P205/55 R16 and P215/45 R17 tyres, front and back, should be 220kPa.

It is a known fact that Malaysia cars are overpriced. Can you change the fact? Elantra does not come with the most gadgets but at least better than current Japanese offering.

If compare to Forte, Elantra is lighter with enhanced chasis, MDPS and lower CD value, all these contribute to lower fuel consumption and much efficient ride. Moreover, Elantra has much better NVH and come with VSM stability system which is a step above the normal ESC. In terms of interior, it feels harmonic and match with the fluid sculpture design language. So how you come to the conclusion that Elantra is only a good looking car is beyond me. Feel funny when someone keep bashing Korean blindly. shocking.gif

If you want good spec, can always opt for Preve 1.6CFE, got turbo some more rclxms.gif

I also have booked the new elantra 1.6HS, but received so much complaints regarding 2nd value, not worth compare to new civic 2012 just posted at paultan website, underpower for 1.6 and other things, can someone help me is that worth to buy? my SA discount for me RM1k, change front and rear logo free too.
*
There always debate on how important is the 2nd hand value. For me it is important, but not important enough to deter me from getting something I really like. In this case, is Elantra smile.gif Korean cars are getting more and more attention in Malaysia and more people start to accept them, who knows the 2nd hand value will not be getting better in the coming years?

Grabbed from paultan, a comment from user regarding civic 2012, true or not I am not very sure but can do some research urself. For me, if really want to buy a civic, I would get the current gen instead. Moreover, it is already firmed that there will be a face lift to the 9th civic somewhere in 2013.

To all my Bolehland frens who drives the FD1 or FD2 or FD3, keep your car as long as possible…

Honda has lost it and the days of crap Civics is coming to your country very soon.

In SG, the new FN Civic is so bad and so expensive that less than 5 were sold since its intro in Jan… Insane COE prices aside, this POS CIvic 1.8 costs nearly SG$170k a piece… a brand new Audi A4 1.8 TFSi cost SG$169k…. smile.gif Go fig which is a better bet

And becos of its much cheapen built and hidous looks, our FDs are much sought after in the used car market. In fact, car buffs are willing to pay top dollar for our FDs…esp the 2009 facelift version.

Just a quick comparision between the POS Civic 1.8 and the current FD1

- No more floor mounted gas pedal! sad.gif Applies to all Civic models. Too expensive to include in the new Civic
- Dash looks like it was designed by someone who is high on drugs.sad.gif
- That tiny LCD screen next to the tach is too small to read in bright sunlight. New fonts on the instrument cluster
- Dashboard, central console, floor console are now built with cheap, hard looking plastic. Our FD plastic is as good as Accord’s
- No more 60:40 splif fold rear seatbacks. Its either you fold the entire back or just shut up. Too expensive to include in new Civic
- No more 6 CD changer. The integrated HU now accepts just ONE CD…The new HU looks like its pirated from the City’s. The buttons felt very cheap to touch.
- Sat Nav option is available in the 2L. However, locally installed maps is hard to read and slow to respond

- Very slow steering gear ratio!. FD1 and FD2 has a lock to lock ratio of just 2.7 turns. The new Civic…. 3.11! sad.gif Elantra at 2.8 smile.gif You will need to turn the steering wheel more to make any sharp turns.
- Still no 6 airbags for Civic. in SE Asia. Its dual front for 1.8. 2L has seat mounted side airbags. But no window curtain bags… Too expensive to be installed in Civic. !@#$% sad.gif

- Lesser sound insulation as compared to FDs. Our FDs is already not the last word is sound insulation but the new Civic make it even worse
- Shorten wheelbase! sad.gif Enought said…!@#$%
- New paddle shifters behind new steering wheel looks and feels more like buttons than a real paddle. Its abit difficult to use it to shift quickly sad.gif

- Honda now includes a so called ‘Econ’ button on the dash in a bid to boost fuel economy. Do not engage it unless you want your Civic to drive like turtle. It will enable the ECU to retart timing, limit throttle opening, reduce aircon compressor efficency and have the gearbox upshift very early… all these to increase fuel economy…. which in real life, doesn’t really do much.

- There’s no longer any plastic covers to cover the bootlid hinges… Its bare metal all the way. Too expensive to install such things in the new Civic.

-The new fugly tailight assembly no longer feature high intensity clear lens. It is cheap looking frosted lens that looks more at home in a late 90s car than something outta 2012.

- Softer springs and shocks for the new POS Civic. You’re not expected to drive enthustically for your mission is to save fuel.

Seems a bit different from the answer I got. I just called the SD careline, they told me the waiting period is upon the date of booking.

However if the car is allocated for someone, and he/she not manage to get the loan approved, then the car will be allocated for the next queuing no.

Actually the registration of the Q is up to the car dealer whether want to do it for u or not. If they are very confident that you will sure get loan approved or you buy cash, they will immediately register a slot in the Q. Nowadays, majority car dealer will only register your name for the Q only once they get LOU from the bank upon the bank approved the loan for you. They will only write your info in the VSO upon you pay the deposit and then submit a copy to the bank for loan application first before they go to next step. Normally loan will be approved in 3 days if your record is good. Sometimes, some bank take ages to approved it for you. If they approved your loan 2 weeks later after you paid your deposit, that means you will only consider to start to Q 2 weeks later by then. Some bank even worst, like my case my SA help to apply 3 banks to get best rate and 2 banks called me and 1 of them immediately approved a day later while other bank is still in processing. The worst is another bank never called me since my loan has been approved nearly a week ago. mad.gif

The date of booking that SD refer should be the booking made from the car dealer after they received LOU from bank to confirm your loan is approved. smile.gif
*
Thanks for your careful explanation. Seems I am lucky as my SA told me no need to rush to get the car loan and he has registered into the system. smile.gif I only applied for the loan like 3 weeks after the booking.. However, waiting for 1.8 here at Penang is taking ages. Admire those guys in KL area can get their car so fast. vmad.gif

not reali....currently 1.8 seems slow or stop production in favor of 1.6

My SA told me, initially SD production is 25% 1.8, 75% 1.6. However it turned out that 1.8 booking is much higher than their initial expectation and especially KL guys more than 90% get 1.8, hence the long waiting period. But you are saying otherwise? hmm.gif Maybe my SA bluff me, but he indeed told me if I would change my mind to get 1.6 instead, I can get the car within 2 weeks.

Come across a post in 8th gen civic malaysia club.. Maybe those who pro Japanese especially Honda has to think twice if they still stick to the old mind set that Japanese car has better quality, lower maintenance cost and better reliability. No offence, but I think it's time to open up our mind set and not blindly bashing the Korean.

Hi All,

I've recently clocked 100k on my Civic FD 2.0 and have diagnose a few problems which I am totally disappointed with Honda and I'm desperate to get rid of My civic and VOW to NEVER EVER buy a honda anymore.

I've seen many brothers in the forum complaining about steering rack problem, steering pump problem, etc and all this is happening to me and why do I have to fork out so much money where I have a toyota altis that is clocking more than 130k and no major parts required for change. Just normal brake pads change and small parts.

1) I've just got sent my car to SC for a diagnostics on a "CLOG CLOG" sound when going on bumpy roads. SC center say steering rack problem and wanted to charge me RM5000. I got a SHOCK!!!

2) I've changed my tie rods few months back and they say would solve the problem. But unfortunately NO!!!!

3) When my warranty was still valid, they couldn't diagnose the bloody problem.

4) Engine shaking, ask me to change mounting and tensioner. I changed tensioner but produce a new sound.

5) Now Im just waiting for steering pump to break down. A timebomb after reading so many feedback on steering pump problem.

6) Luckily my wheel bearing was changed during warranty.

7) Even passenger door handle also has sound when going on rough roads.

I just wonder why my Toyota Altis didn't give me any such major problems at all.

Honda = nice to see but cheap piece of junk, I will settle for a toyota(uncle car) for durability rather than worrying and thinking of repairs.

For those who wants a free ride on my civic to experience all funny and "clog clog" sound, pls PM me. I'll be glad to take you for a ride in a HONDA CHEAP [CENSORED] PIECE OF CRAP..

Please dont ask me to buy a BMW or Merc for a better car. Its not about a better car but keeping the quality to market standards.

Just for sharing, from another 8th Civic owner who has test driven the new Elantra. May not be completely true, but I think is quite genuine since the opinion comes from someone who actually own a Civic.

QUOTE
hello guys.. just want to share with u since there is a new competitor in the c-segment.. this time is from korea.. it is completely knock down (CKD) and was assembled by inokom.. so dont be surprise if u see an inokom batch instead of hyundai logo at the car.. (but the salesman tell me, they can change it back if u want to).. Laughing

i test drive the unit this evening.. 2 engine are available.. 1.6 Gamma and new engine, NU 1.8.. too bad, the test drive unit only available in 1.6.. (it comes with manual 6 speed too) Wink

POWER: it seems that even 1.6, it is very smooth and i think are able to catch the FD1.. Shocked coz the max power his engine produce is 130ps and the torque is about 160N/mm.. engine note are barely heard unless u take it to about 4000rpm.. gear changes are also smooth.. A/T transmission also come with 6 speed..

NVH: this is the part that i am very particular.. since it is a new car, maybe everything is tight and there is no rattling heard.. tyre noise are minimal.. this one, i can say that our FD is not a match.. no chance to take it to high speed to test the wind sound.. but at 80-90km/h, NVH are still kept minimal.. saleperson told me there is foam injected into some part of the car.. i tough he is just say it.. but when i see the broucher, YES.. there is some part injected with autofoam to tackle the NVH

SUSPENSION: a bit soft compared to FD.. high speed cornering, maybe FD win.. but softer suspension ensure more comfort and more composed ride.. since i am not a person who like to drive to the limit oftenly, i like the suspension setup.. Very Happy

overall, with prices below 120k, this car is another option to buy.. for 1.8, u will get the nappa leather, 17 wheel wrapped with continental tyre, dvd & gps navigation on board, reverse cam and 8 way electric power seat (for driver only).. it looks handsome too.. with aftermarket bodykit that will be invented in no time, i am sure this car will be more handsome.. Very Happy

I didn't play with the GPS thoroughly during my test drive. How laggy is laggy? Will you miss turn? Roughly how fast is the update rate /sec ?

Audio system I thought should be the same with Forte minus the 2 tweeters? In the forum, Forte owners mainly praise the audio system, but I don't think the 2 stock tweeters can result in so much difference. My guess is the bros here are mainly bashing the printed antenna reception quality rather than the speaker itself ? blush.gif For me, I don't really listen to the radio station anyway... tongue.gif
