i applied cimb credit card today and emailed them my form, ic, and latest payslip. when asked if they need any other supporting, they said no need. when i checked their website, they need bank statements and epf statement. why credit cards are so easy to apply ? i hope i can get approved so i can use it immediately. can banks check our epf account thru their banking system? or check my savings account with other banks?
*
I know HLB can check you EPF account. So I guess the other banks can too. But they would need a physical card. Not sure if they can do it with just your IC number. Normally they would need either ur bank statement or epf statement to see the money stated in your payslip coming in to that account to verify its true..

ya, thats the question. my friend works in a bank said he can do background check on any residents in malaysia by having their ic number and name. pretty scary huh. he can check his/her income, monthly commitments and even epf contribution instant using his banking system. i'm not sure other banks can do that. p/s: he dont need physical ic to check

another citibank officer told me that applicants whom supply proof of epf or bank statement while apply credit card, automatically give them the rights to directly check your epf or bank account full history and transactions. even though you only supply them latest two or three months proof. but without those proof on paper, they cannot check anything at all. so different banks probably got diff system

noted with thanx ... do you know if maybank's points are more generous than citibank's - point for point basis? i'm not sure if both have same products for points conversion so what i meant was - to exchange for a similar item (maybe a voucher for comparison sake), which one requires more points to do so?

there is another point u didnt account for. how fast the point can accumulate.

in this case i would say maybank 2 kard amex is the champion between the two. As it allows u to collect x5 point on almost everything vs only selected merchant for citibank

No. The queue is longer than I queued for Maxis iPhone 5 at CapSquare, on last weekend. So we skipped it.

Anyone tried splitting the bills to maximise the rebate?

I have Citibank card which gives 50% rebate for 1st purchase and Maybank2card Amex.

Planning to get an iPhone tomorrow so want to maximise the rebate. Plan to split RM500 to Citibank the rest for Amex (for the RM50 rebate and 5x points).

Is it possible?

This is possible if the Merchant allows split payment. It's not controlled by CC/bank.

Hi, What is the consequence of unable to pay the min amount for a few months? Will it sue by the bank for bankruptcy?

Your ccris sure goes from ok, to terrible. After three months non payment, they block ur credit card, send you letter of summon, then that will be permanent in your ctos. Then you are not eligible for any loans or credit cards anymore, until that clears off. Debt accumulate until rm30k, you can be bankrupt, then you can get fired from ur job, cannot get another job, work till u need to clear and pay the debts, u cannot leave country, u are blacklisted. So future not so bright.

its not so easy to declare someone a bNkrupcy..it took a very long procedures..
the bank will contact u with few proposals on how to pay back the debts..if failed the case will be bring up to the court
the court will gives a few more proposals on how to pay the debts..if failed..the case will be bring to AKPK (agensi kaunsing pengurusan kredit bank negara) or vice versa AKPK first or court first..
if still failed...u still can appeal with the bank on new proposals..and furthermore all ur assets will be evaluated and sell to cover up the debts..if its covered..than u wont be bankrupt..this all will took years..

During that procedure, i think it's already a bad record in view of other banks. My friends dad was a bankrupt . He must have spent a lot of years plan debt proposal before he finally labelled bankrupt
