Banned topics on the BLM Thread tongue.gif

- FC (has been discussed >9000 times already)

General rule of the thumb is that, if you want good FC, make sure your car is a manual. Or have your tires slightly over-inflated. Reduce your car load as well. Avoid jams. Light footed. Car maintained properly. etc etc etc.

- Engine oil (also has been discussed >9000 times)

Simple, if you have the money to spend, get fully synthetic engine oil. If not, most 10W-40 oils would work just fine. Brand doesnt matter much, nor does the viscosity.

- MYVI or Saga? Read the post above

Although this is my first Saga BLM thread, I've seen more than enough of people complaining of bad FC and what engine oil to use. Please do a simple search before asking. Saves your time and our time.

I have read some reviews saying using door soundproofing can make the door sound more "solid".

Anybody here experiencing a annoying 'teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet' coming from underneath the car somewhere at the back tyre with your FLX? The sound is like the TV color bar when tv program not yet start. I wonder if its normal or something is wrong?
I just picked up my flx a few days ago. So far all OK except for this sound.
Fuel consumption now 300km left 2 bars.I think its quite high but i guess after first service later it will be better..or is it?

Wish I could say I enjoyed the DIY yesterday, but I was damn stressed out especially when I scratched the door trim panels and had difficulty re-installing them back because the insulflex was too thick (To quote myself yesterday "LAST TIME AND NO MORE!"). ohmy.gif ohmy.gif Even now the front door trim panels are not completely sealed so I have to cut out some of the insulflex out later, but I dah takut wanna dismantle the door trim panel sweat.gif

Guess I'm just not cut out for DIY, but many thanks to mahihi (I think he was quite stressed out by my car also rclxms.gif ) and Ah Wai of Yau Yip, as well as V12k.

But now the door trim panels feel 100000 times more solid...I can't even pressed it in like last time. mahihi also helped install the insulflex into the boot, and I still got a giant piece stowed away in my car for for my front bonnet rclxms.gif .

Soundproofing with insulflex helps. In my experience, those Perodua cars sound good when new, one year later they will close like milo tin kosong.

*
Could be the fuel pump under the rear seat.

Normal driving condition = use D

driving condition which requires faster acceleration (ie, hill climbing, racing with a kancil) = use L

Auto? No choice must change the transmission fluid. Air filter maybe can clean a bit and spark plug will have to see the condition. Radiator coolant up to you, but its good to change to keep your radiator and coolinf system in good condition.

If we change to Iridium spark plug, it will last much longer, thus save some $...

And also use air filter like K&N which can last for quite some time...

Guess I'm just not cut out for DIY, but many thanks to mahihi (I think he was quite stressed out by my car also  rclxms.gif ) and Ah Wai of Yau Yip, as well as V12k.

But now the door trim panels feel 100000 times more solid...I can't even pressed it in like last time. mahihi also helped install the insulflex into the boot, and I still got a giant piece stowed away in my car for for my front bonnet  rclxms.gif .

lols....10 mm is like this one la...u need some patience....different car different door panels different clips as well....use 10 mm over 6 mm coz the difference is quite significant....about the scratching,u can purchase oem grey paint at garage section, but after a while u will numb ad one la,lols...and bout the stressed out,it is normal whenever i try to install 10 mm on front panels,lols...the ori clips is kinda useless i can say...takut then come exhaust shop again lo,haha

does adding a sound proofing decrease the performance of my blm?
for example adding additional weight to the car, increase FC, low power
etc?

need to detach the glovebox. Then you'll see something squarish on the left side, there's a compartment where you can pull out. Take it out and give it a wash. Be gentle. Its brittle.

If you're not into POWAHHH and also those leather bits and also sporty bodykits, then the 1.3 is suffice. Actually the 1.3 has more than enough power to haul you around within the national highway speed limit if you're driving alone almost all the time.

heard about this as well bro... most of the proton SA have already seen the car & some already went for training (to promote the car)...

the price will be higher than Persona But not more than Inspira 2.0 (their flagship currently)... that's what i'm told

Guys, what does the noisy sound when driving on the road means to you .. ?
Would it be the cause of without sound proof implementation / the tyre is not good already ? .. unsure.gif

Yea, coz after installing insulflex the panel difficult to assemble back to the door because the insulflex was too thick. Summore it was getting late.

Some tyres are inherently noisy, and Saga's soundproof is non-existent. I'm serious, Saga has absolutely zero soundproofing.

What tyres are you using?

To be honest la, i tried insufflex at 4 doors before also, it just block little high frequency noise such as wind noise and some whining sound, once you get used to it, the feeling of 'non-existent' will come back again...

Just my little opinion, but the price is cheap, so nothing lost, better than none.

I didn't soundproof the front, which is the noisiest part, so not much change there. But the doors feels far more solid, no more rattling so the car doesn't sound like falling apart when going over bumps. Mahihi also installed the insulflex in the boot, so it feels more "calm" now, no more random sound from the rear.

Lol U can find the pictures from the automotive section. Just search for insulflex. It looks exactly like how it was done with my car. After all this you'll realise that your door trim will be harder thus reducing the vibrations coming from the speakers and also uneven roads icon_rolleyes.gif Im heading back to Shah alam this coming Saturday to soundproof the fenders so I can reduce the road/tyre noise. Need to tighten the handbrake cable kot, that is just a simple fix, though. nyek nyek sound is normal if your handbrake not tight enough and your car move.

The list above is afflicted with drumbrake noise during driving, a rythmic "tak tak tak" sound that follows the car speed when the brake is pressed.

Then pull handbrake and shift to 1st gear...

Your car won't move at all even at 45 degree slope If you shift into 1st gear without pull handbrake, engine braking is the alot more effective than handbrake.

One of their staff said that ContiMaxContact MC5 is better and it is a newer design.

Does anyone have experience using this type of MC5 tyre?

Yup, this is a must have habit for manual driver even u put N when parking, because manual can shift gear without pressing clutch. So Always check the gear stick is at N before starting engine, i think is taught during car learning lesson... wink.gif

ps. My 1st Proton lasted me 20+years...
The only thing broken was its speedo cable which had nothing to do with how we use it...and a little bit of oil after changing it, made it last till the car was sold!! whistling.gif

Yup, gear oil replacement is VERY important 2ensure proper functioning & longer service life esp in autos.

Also advisable 2replace brake fluid once every 2 years. Brake fluid is very hygroscopic ie it'll absorb water vapour fr the air, and subsequently lower its boiling point.
Efficiiency wld then be affected. tongue.gif

That used 2b the norm previously.
However, it does not appear 2b the case with this gen of cars & not incl in 1st service schedule.

Saves your time and our time.

they should come out with door panel and dashboard with easy-to-dismantle, maybe just some simple clip and screw which can easily access by user and DIY dismantle and reinstall it...hassle free, no time wasting and no burden to SC. blush.gif

The doors are very easy to open up, just 5 screws and u can pop out the whole panel starting from the bottom.. Its just the dashboard part that i cant figure how to take it out owing to the tons of components involved.. And a dashboard dismantle last time in COSE took more than 45mins by a trained technician somemore..
end results was like this..

Btw more clips and screws means more rattling.. lol..

The amount of effort they took scared me.. sweat.gif

Planning to get FLX for my mother soon. For current users,do you guys have any comment on the cars reliability?
I've test drive the FLX & the cars performance & interior seems reasonable for me.Just have doubt of campro's reliability.

While test driving I asked about the Proton P3-21A.I had the impression that the sales person has seen the car & he seems to be very impressed with it.He told me that the launch date will be in mid March & price range will be from 65K to 75K.

Campro the engine itself should be fine, just not as smooth or refine as those Japanese engines (My personal opinion). The thing everybody worries about is the IAFM component, which has a history of breaking every few years.

FLX comes with the new IAFM+, and since it is still new, there is still no reports of it breaking yet.

I did ask about the IAFM+ & he said so far there's no case with IAFM+ breakdown in SC near my house.
If a Saga sent to the SC it's mostly because of accident. Not much parts failure.

I guess I'll look through few more option before deciding but FLX seems like very good candidate for now.

I learned a major thing from you already : Saga is a very safe car laugh.gif
My mother will be traveling 80KM per day & part of the road is shitty type.So need a rather safe car.
Initially I thought of taking standard model but standard model don't have airbag at all.So change to executive.

The SC/Proton Edar is about 500m from my house only.I can see rows of accident cars in SC from my house.

For some ppl, the door is very hard to open...

You changed dashboard before?
*
Nope.. is take it out totally and reassemble.. Cos there was some wind leaking in at high speed from the left.. When u speed above 120kmh its very loud like somebody blowing air like that.. Later found out that the windscreen bottom left the sealant there got a gap didnt stick properly..

When the SC fella fix back the dashboard also he add some double sided tapes here and there to make most of the connecting areas fit properly..

Btw got a few questions to ask u guys..
Does Saga FL 1.6 have auto lock? Like when u put down the handbrake and press the brakes the door will all auto lock..

For that price, and a for a new car, nothing comes close.

Inokom i10 : Cute, probably save more gas, nicer interior. downside - no airbags, resale value, spare parts, small boot
Persona 1.6 B-Line : Bigger, more room, bigger engine. downside - no airbag/abs/ebd, a lot better stuff missing (power windows, foglights, alloy wheels etc)
Viva : Small, practical, saves gas, resale value, airbag+abs/ebd only on viva elite EZi . downside - pricey, considering the stuff you getting in return
myvi LB - tried and proven technology+platform, 2 aibags. downside - for RM45k, you get extra boot space, ABS/EBD over the myvi. and the interior isn't everyone's cup of tea

Personally I don't know why MyVi's price is so damn freaking high.It does sound like tin milo just like proton cars & performance + interior is just so2.
It's not worth paying nearly RM50K for that.
Even my sister dislike MyVi.

Saga's main advantage is definitely it's price.Just hoping it'll be reliable.
My family has great memories with our previous Proton car,Waja.Even after 11 years it still in excellent condition aside from the damn window.

*
hmm... my personal opinion... proton car performance and handling better than Myvi.... biggrin.gif

FLX SE - for addidional RM 4k++, you get bigger engine + leather seats + nicer looking stitched gearstick/steering + nicer looking dash + larger rims (WARNING: stiffer ride!!) + bodykit.

however, if you don't need these things and you simply only need a car to commute, FLX 1.3 Exec will do just fine and you save RM4k++.

80-110 is a breeze to reach.

as for cornering, depends on what tires you get with your car. Ducaro GA has better grip than Silverstone Synergy M3 but on wet rclxub.gif Tire pressure matters too. I've tried 200 front and 180 rear and also 190/180 and the grip is superb but prolonged usage will start to eat your tires sides. 210/200 makes the rear a bit floaty at speed above 150kph and during hard cornering, the rear easily slides out (but still controllable). Currently trying 220/200 and my first verdict is, the ride is bumpy as hell >.< The stock recommendation of 210/190 is quite balanced, gives a better confident to corner and no floaty feeling even when approaching 160kph.

suspension is slightly on the hard side, but at the rear at least it doesn't has the "boat" feeling which could make people vomit during long distance travel.

It depends on tyre as well.

Last time using SS M3, even stock 210/190 is bumpy and harsh...

Now CC5, recently i also start to play with tyre pressure again, Currently try 220/210, still quite comfort, stock pressure make FC a liitle worst than using M3 last time, so different tyre different pressure.

What i know is Ducaro is quite hard compound, plus FLX stiffen suspension, so stock pressure is more suitable to you for comfort.

When did you buy your car?

The early batches of the FLX are known for this issue, as the CVT overheated so the ECU goes into safe mode to protect your gearbox. Send your car to the SC to inspect and update your CVT system.

Dares,
I bought on November 2011.
My car did got called in for special 1K service batch that changes the CVT fuel pump or the fuel itself. I can't remember.
It's due for 11K service this weekend so thought of asking about this at the SC then. Just for precaution so I ask here first.

kenjilew, pm u.

My family has great memories with our previous Proton car,Waja.Even after 11 years it still in excellent condition aside from the damn window.

reliability
i think as long as u service on time and changed the necessary parts on time
any engine would be reliable
toyota engine reliable but if u dn't service on time..it would die on u also

I ask my sis whether her mech ever clean her Vios's air filter, she ask what is an air filter. Now the car idle RPM quite low and vibrates, she also can't tell that something is wrong.

Sorry to hear bout that. Which sc you send it to? The proton branch sc should be aware of this issue already, not sure about the smaller authorized sc.

But biaselah, when u drive all the noise come out. Then send to sc suddenly become quiet brows.gif

I did heard people say that the Campro is a rather delicate engine, unlike their Mitsu predecessors that can take a lot of mods and punishment.

I waited 2 weeks for them to contact the vendor because it was CNY. The advisor's name was Shanon IIRC (Malay dude). But now according the Noodle they have found a way to fix it without replacing it.

Anyway, just call them to make an appointment.

why must filet be associated with such undelicious, badly prepared fish burger from a fast food chain restaurant?

Why cant it be something nicer like, Filet de Beouf or Filet Mignon? wub.gif

Anyway, just call them to make an appointment.

actually the cost of those wiper very cheap oni. You buy those branded brand like Bosch, the price is 2-3 or perhaps 4 times the price of the silicon wiper that im using from jalan pasar. Mine is around Rm7-8 for ONE PAIR, those bosch one might cost you easily Rm20-30 for only each side, NOT PAIR smile.gif Mine so far so good. Even after few months of using it, it still does it jobs perfectly smile.gif : ) smile.gif But then , the choice is always yours, if you think that you are more confident in using those branded one, you can always go ahead:) The choice is always yours yawn.gif)

Sooo....I ripped off the stickers from the "wings" beside the front badge that I did during last weekend at Yau Yip. I guess I actually prefer the contrast against the black grille. hmm.gif hmm.gif

In the mean time, I made the bottom part of the grill black. brows.gif

Lucky for me, the FLX SE grill's top comes in black, so I didn't need to do anything there tongue.gif

IMO, the grill now looks more "complete" brows.gif . Forget to mention, I copy the idea from V12K tongue.gif

QUOTE(adrianteddy @ Mar 1 2012, 10:27 AM)
actually the cost of those wiper very cheap oni.
*
its not abt confident
using silicone sure is cheap
but using it long term...you'll see scratches on your windscreen
so u better change it more frequently or just use rubber
mine just changed after 4 years..change to bosch aerotwin...no sound at all and its very clean
it depends your usage...if u often parked under sun....silicone but need to frequently change
if not often under sun..best still rubber

Sorry to hear about that, have you tried Proton SCs or Proton stockists?

That's why I always avoid going to KL or any congested areas. If not some idiot driving a big car, it's a motorcyclist that weaving in and out of traffic at high speed.

I came across someone posting in this forum that the Proton SC is selling at the price of RM50 ++ for one unit - i guess those Proton stockist will be much more expensive. Changing to a brand new rim will cost me a bomb for sure .. ph34r.gif
