Typical Malaysian mentality. Just becoz Honda made a few good model like eg, ek, fd doesn't mean fb will be great. In everyone's mind, Honda resale value must be good. This is not true. Go check out a 10 year old accord. S86 trade in price is less than 25k. Retail for 140k back in 2002. U r getting less than 20% of what u have paid. Even a 10 year old wira beat accord, it gets 10k for trade in vs 45k when it was new.

I have nothing against Honda but Neither i worship them. They made a few great models and at d same time, they fail big time e.g. city cvt gearbox.

IMHO, car manufacturers in Malaysia are just being greedy. They know how to take full advantage of car lovers here. Seriously, just look at jazz hybrid. US could sell them at 20k usd yet we r paying close to 100k eventhough it is tax free. Imagine how much Honda Malaysia pocket?
Well said. Toyota is the same (if not worse). Which is why Malaysians need to stop the buying only then will these Japs realise that we cant be taken for granted anymore. Toyota and Honda can both claim that the Malaysian Gov sets the taxes and stuff but both these companies together with Nissan have huge businesses & investments in Malaysia. Collectively, all 3 of them can easily pressure the Malaysian Gov to lower taxes but they choose not to because they wanna make money as well.

One big question. Comparing Civic 1.8 Vs Civic Hybrid, which one would have better RSV? I am looking at both. However CH seems to have better value for money. Pay additional 3k - get more features. Maintenance wise, CH is slightly more exp than C1.8.
Thanks for comments =).
Resale values are dependent on demand. So far the demand for Hybrid vehicles isnt great at all. So dont expect resale values for 2nd hand hybrids to be good either.

i heard excise and import duty waiver will end in dec 2013 for hybrid cars . it mean to say fully imported CBU hybrid will be very expensive.

thats why Honda will be manufacturing Hybrid cars locally with Jazz as the appetizer .

if you want and like fully imported japanese made Hybrid car , do consider to buy before Dec2013.

btw , i have booked a Civic Hybrid a few days ago. so hard for me to choose between the Teana 2.0L and this Honda City hybrid
as the Teana is about 15K more only.

I think RSV for Hybrid (abide attractive price) will not be as good as the normal 1.8, 5 years down the road. With Melaka fully operational to produce Hybrid by next year, Hybrid price is expected to come down. Btw, Civic Hybrid has not been included in their plans yet. Meaning to say, battery for Civic Hybrid (which cost RM11k ++) may still be exp 5 years from now. Would that be a risk and will that affect RSV for Hybrid?

Any chance of test driving the C. Hybrid before you place order? I am having hard time asking for test drive. Apparently, no test drive car for Hybrid models.

have not test drive the civic hybrid but book based on showroom condition and impression and heard this new model handle the road pretty well.

i bet the japan made hybrid cars will maintain a much higher standard in build quality than locally made and as such owners will enjoy better ambience and feel and i'm sure the price (judging by T&H pricing history) won't be much cheaper for local made compared to current models which is excise duty exempted.

i'm betting original hybrid battery price should drop drastically 5 years time from now, if not , the chinese should produce some cheaper ones.

5 years down the road , i hope to save some petrol money and that will at least even out , in case the hybrid battery totally broke down after its 5 years warranty.

the risk of petrol price going up in 5 years time or beyond or the same as it is now with heavy govt subsidy remain a subject to wide debate and even with the latter , the 2nd hand RV should be quite safe but no matter what , Hybrid cars FC is way more economical than petrol cars

that make it more difficult choice to choose as the price difference is not that burdensome on me . i check the lenght and width of latest civic and teana and the difference in L&W is Teana is 1.5 inch wider and 13.5 inch longer . easier parking manoeuvring for Civic but Teana more comfortable . BTW , what is teana service interval . was it 5k or 10k KM

As expected, a Civic thread again turn out to be war zone between Korean vs Japanese.

To Pro Japanese (or Honda to be specific):
1. Resale value is overrated. Buying car = 100% lose money investment. If resale value is very important for you, that means you dumping too much money to buy the car. Buy an extra house instead if you want to have good return.
2. You already save a few 10k opting for Korean car. (forte for example).
3. New civic 1.8 is really very entry. Spec mainly stay the same as 5 years ago. New I-Mid is just a bigger info display screen. Honda is pushing 2.0 while most of the Malaysian prefer 1.8 (price wise, fuel consumption wise).

To Pro Korean (Kia and Hyundai)
1. Honda still have better engine (Civic to be specific) in terms of smoothness. The good example is the engine can take 0W20 oil easily, which is very low viscosity. Elantra for example, still have to use 5W-40 or 5W-30. High RPM and engine revving smoothness is still Honda strong point, but Korean is not too far from that.
2. Civic 5 speed transmission respond is still faster than Hyundai 6 speed. But I am impressed with the smoothness and logic of the Elantra 6 speed.
3. Civic handling is still better. But new Civic 1.8 still giving NCT5 tyre is a let down.
4. Civic NA engine still is more fuel efficient (in city driving only, highway is almost LPPL). This is due to able to take low viscosity oil and less internal friction (I presume) and little bit better low end torque.

Above is my sincere opinion from a few times of test drive and some research that I have done.

Just plan out your finances first la!

a. What's the maximum amount you can pay per month and for how many years?
b. Have you let a 2nd hand dealer take a look at your car to determine how much you can sell it for if its trade it?
c. If you're not trading in your car, how much do you think you can sell your car for online or to another potential buyer?
d. if B and C are both not options you are pursuing then what's the maximum down payment you are able to put down?

Finally:

Have you actually test drive both cars yet?

The Teana is a bigger car no doubt, but the 2.0L base model is just that, basic. You'd have to fork out a LOT more for the 2.5V in order for it to be on par in specs with the 2.0s Civic. What is it that you're looking for in a car? What's your priority and then compare and you have your answer.

been reading through lots been said about resale value is not important. which absolutely not true. yes buy car has never been an investment and nobody saying it is an investment in the first place. so save the argument 'investment buy house blah blah blah'

except for maybe very rare ones. which surely not a single people here can afford.

resale value is actually a summarization of a brand strength. and confidence. some of the time yes demand plays a part but most of the time people just buy what they have confidence in. resale value is a good indicator whether one particular brand doing good over here or not. and mind u great resale value is not something u can have by doing business in 2-3-4-5 years. it is a product of perhaps 10-20 years of GREAT services.

we got to admit the japanese done good. except maybe for mazda but they are coming back. you may buy what ever u want but discarding resale value IS NOT WISE

the car is already in honda sg petani. and they will sort out the documents, NCD, blah blah blah. if not next week then perhaps next week of the next week. i guess this will be it - buy without test driving.

Bro, you've got nothing to worry about, I've tested both the Forte 1.6SX and the Civic 2.0S

1. The Civic engine still feels more refined, the engine builds power smoothly and it is less harsh compared to the Forte's engine. The firewall on the Forte needs more improvement as well, I can actually hear the harshness of the engine at high revs and it can get a little uncomfortable.

2. The 6 speed transmission on the Forte does an adequate job but gear transitioning feels a little better on the Civic's 5 speeder

3. Both cars are plasticky on the inside

4. Sound insulation is slightly better on Civic compared to the Forte. They both aren't great but if you were to spend money to improve the car's quietness, then the Civic will cost slightly less

5. Rear space is adequate for both cars, my wife reported no issues.

6. The Forte is very well equipped for the asking price. It's really got a lot of toys and features. The only thing to do is to upgrade the lights to HID and you're done. Even the Forte 2.0SX has 2 more airbags compared to the Civic 2.0S, simply fantastic value.
