As expected, a Civic thread again turn out to be war zone between Korean vs Japanese.

To Pro Japanese (or Honda to be specific):
1. Resale value is overrated. Buying car = 100% lose money investment. If resale value is very important for you, that means you dumping too much money to buy the car. Buy an extra house instead if you want to have good return.
2. You already save a few 10k opting for Korean car. (forte for example).
3. New civic 1.8 is really very entry. Spec mainly stay the same as 5 years ago. New I-Mid is just a bigger info display screen. Honda is pushing 2.0 while most of the Malaysian prefer 1.8 (price wise, fuel consumption wise).

To Pro Korean (Kia and Hyundai)
1. Honda still have better engine (Civic to be specific) in terms of smoothness. The good example is the engine can take 0W20 oil easily, which is very low viscosity. Elantra for example, still have to use 5W-40 or 5W-30. High RPM and engine revving smoothness is still Honda strong point, but Korean is not too far from that.
2. Civic 5 speed transmission respond is still faster than Hyundai 6 speed. But I am impressed with the smoothness and logic of the Elantra 6 speed.
3. Civic handling is still better. But new Civic 1.8 still giving NCT5 tyre is a let down.
4. Civic NA engine still is more fuel efficient (in city driving only, highway is almost LPPL). This is due to able to take low viscosity oil and less internal friction (I presume) and little bit better low end torque.

Above is my sincere opinion from a few times of test drive and some research that I have done.

Civic lovers say civic looks good, Korean car lovers say otherwise. Just purchase whatever you think is good, no need to bash Korean.

Civic 9th gen looks much better with body kits I have to say, but without it, new civic is a little bit plain, especially the rear. Elantra on the other hand looks good even without any bodykit, IMHO.

jsnoway, is your FC based on computer or self calculation? Normally computer will report a little lower FC.

AUD1.00 = RM3.29 (roughly)
AUD34k=RM111860.00
so effectively it is:

RM111k vs RM136k

Thats quite expensive as well for Australia.

You can't compare like this. He is earning AUS while we are earning MYS.

Maybe the click sound it is indication of ABS starts to work. I remember I read that from some owner manual (other car). You can check your owner manual

Yes i meant that its not active in the sense that it doesnt function to aid braking continously but yes the sensors are still on the moment u switch on the engine. But still doesnt explain the clicking sound?

My guess is it is performing self checking?

Cannot, but you can try asking SA and see if you get lucky or not

IMO, this new Civic only 2.0 worth to buy. 1.8L is too plain especially if compare to Korean (elantra and forte). 8th gen no auto cruise, 9th gen auto cruise is still missing... blink.gif Those who opt for 1.8 is really die hard Civic fans who only look at either the H logo, or only the engine and handling.

Just comparing new Civic 1.8 vs 2.0, only 15k price difference, but you get bigger engine and loads of features. Another thing is, if you mod the car, you risk of voiding the warranty.

Guys, better be careful of what SA offers.

1st: Warranty is not given by SA, better confirm with your SC.
2nd: I am impressed with 2.0 Navi stock HU respond speed, seems like capacitive touch to me. Compare to some lousy china unit, they use much slower CPU and resistive touch.

My mileage already 2200km got the car later than you. blush.gif Travelled for 4 hours with 80km/h just now with ECON. IMiD showed 18.6km/l. 36.9L for 670.xxKM in total. What is HAMP by the way ? Thanks.
*
Wow 18.6km/l = 5.38l / 100km = 43.75MPG ! You did it in a non stop condition? Means this new gen Civic can even surpass Honda claim highway 39MPG?

I am not sure how Honda come out with the 39MPG, whether the way they test is it the same with other manufacture?

iq_myst is right, lower speed does not mean better MPG, but I know 80kmh - 100kmh is the most efficient speed.

Another thing is, it is always more accurate to calculate the km/l yourself rather than rely on the computer.

I heard it is really due to safety, to comply with euro standard. Autolock has possibility to mulfunction if accident happens and keep passanger from unlocking the car as I know.

None of us here has actual knowledge on the standard, you are just making a comment based on your own logic thinking.

Talking about korean car in a Civic thread will easily get attack by Civic fanboy... as always.

Agree with most of the point of zweimmk, but there are few things to consider:

1. Good sounding engine (or rev friendly engine with sharp note), but how many times are you going to rev to 6k rpm?
2. Accessories - 1.8S is seriously plain and empty..2.0 is too expensive for many peeps.
3. NVH.. Given the price, forte is quite OK. Elantra on the other hand, has very good NVH.
4. Parts life, japanese are calculative, so you always see after warranty period, parts start to fail. I am not sure if 9th gen has improved over 8th gen but I know 8th gen always suffer power steering failure, absorber gone..etc

So at the end, it is up to your choice if you are willing to spend few 10k more for the H badge, the H engine and handling.

Lastly, do you know hyundai 1.6 gamma GDI is awarded on of the ward's best engine in 2012?

6600km give and take. no mechanical issue to report. however the engine oil is quite thin i checked using the dipstick
and the engine is rather hot after travelling just 100km plus all highway smooth sailing no traffic jam. and heard the sounds like tiny bubbles exploding at the engine after the car put to rest after journeys.

somebody asked about full highway fc. around penang.

i travel daily basis using PLUS from kedah to my workplace about 100-110km one way. so with the cruise control set to 110kmh, i managed to get close to 15km/litre. of course through the i-mied.

however, using manual method (full tank, travel and measure the milage, and full tank again) it is something like rm80 worth of petrol for 550km if not mistaken. 80rm worth of petrol ron95 is like 80rm/1,90 perlitre, so ... 42 litres for 550km... so 13km/litre?

do not use the little green button on ur right hand side, unless it is very necessary. like it was just now when it was raining heavily and my petrol range was ..12 km to finish. hehe.

Thanks for sharing, I believe yours is 2.0 and I would say the figure is quite good for 2.0. I am also curious for 1.8 consumption figure.

Hi Bro & Sis,
1) My Civic (2.0cc) end 2012, last batch of Gen 8.5, millage 14,000km.
When I full tank & 0 up millage, drive 2 days, pump & measure, I just noticed it cost me at 21-23 cents per km, is it a normal?

2) Anyone can advised how to modify to make boot trunk to open via remote?

3) OEM-Dashboard Build (DVD GPS), how much & is it better then original 6CD?
I enjoy watching news while driving

Regards

This thread is dedicated for 9 gen civic but you are asking 8 gen question. 8 gen 2.0 civic is still using K series engine which is known for top end power, but not as fuel efficient as R series engine. For 8 gen 2.0, 21-23 cents per km is normal for city driving (remember measuring using cents/km is not accurate as fuel price will have fluctuation from time to time). However, I believe for 9gen 2.0, fuel consumption will be much lower for both city and highway drive. A constant 110kmh highway drive, 9gen 2.0 can achieve 16.7km/l or around 12-13cents/km with RM2.10 per litre.
