Are u sure the bad feedback was from Naza or previous Kia's? How would you know unless uve experienced it yourself? Most of these so called 'bad feedback' come from previous gen Koreans. But, im not saying current after sales standards are on par with the Japs. Sure it isnt. But its improved alot in the last 2 years especially. We can't expect overnight changes.

But is after sales service standards more important than value for money? Would you pay about 35K more to get better after sales service & resale value since specs are basically the same between the 2.0L Forte and the 2.0L Civic? You would i guess but i think 35K is too much to pay. I faced the same dilemma when i was choosing my car. Yes i could have gone with the masses and booked myself a Camry but at what cost? I find it comical that ppl talk endlessly bout the importance of resale value but they are fine with paying top dollar for something with far less specs initially. Somehow, value for money for them does have a different definition.

Yes, its Naza. I've had personal experience with the KIA Spectra and I've also had 3 friends who practically swore off buying a car from Naza because of their bad experience with Peugeot. My wife's end have 2 friends who are Forte owners and 2 Peugeot owners. IMO, I didn't think the feedback about the Forte was too negative but I think she rather just avoid the issue altogether for total peace of mind.

In the end, I think despite her being impressed with the Forte, she personally isn't comfortable with the idea of buying Korean and still prefers the Japanese makes on the whole.

Btw, she's buying the 1.8s so she's not paying 20k more for the high spec. We've gone over the specs of the Civic and we're actually paying for the following with 20k extra:

1. Paddle shifters (not important)
2. HID lights (Nice to have but can live without for her. IMO, this issue can easily be resolved by ordering the 9th gen protector headlamps from Thailand and getting the Phillips Xenon kit, probably won't cost more than 3.5k in total)
3. Push Start Smart Entry (Again appealing but ultimately not important)
4. Leather seats (can wrap outside for 2k)
5. Electric driver seat (the current city also manual so no difference)
6. 2 more airbags (important but what to do? Just deal with it loh)
7. Signal lamp on wing mirrors instead of on the car body (vanity appeal can live without)
8. Cruise Control (not important since never go outstation)
9. Handles chrome instead of body color (not important)
10. 2.0 Engine instead of 1.8 (more power but also pay more road tax)

I'd second your statement., especially when a car is full of electronics. My dad was pretty against the idea of me getting an audi as they are not exactly famous for their service 'friendliness'. Heck, I have to travel the Penang bridge just to do my annual service lol. I guess it only takes passion or obsession for one to buy cagrs where their service centers are not that well established  yet. Take Kia for example. In Penang I think they have a 3s centre but they only service car on selected days rclxub.gif  well I might be wrong but that's what I read on the window of the showroom. People bash myvi but the after service and service maintenance is even better than Mercedes in my case lol. My worker says that people from the service centre would always call and follow up post-service. Man, I don't even have that from driving a conti hahaha.

My friend is and through a by and by Merc man. It's only recently he has switched to a 2nd hand BMW X6 because of the new M class was selling at really obscene prices in Singapore.

His words were, "eh, don't think just coz you buy a Merc or Beemer means the service center service is good hor! The after sales is also kanasai one!"

So, paying for prestige German marque and getting shitty after sales service is pretty much the norm whether if its Singapore or Malaysia, LOL!

I think the 8th Gen Civic sold in US was a boring design thus their impression for the 9th generation for them is more refreshing and sleeker design..

But for us in Bolehland, the impression is reversed.

i like the way u justify buying a variant nobody wants.

please dont take it in a negative way. it just spec wise, the 1.8L is just .. plain. so like u said u dont need those stuffs then u are doing just allright with the 1.8L i hope the missus will love it.

but it is THE variant u may want if u want the car in shortest period. i've been told 1.8L takes like 2 weeks or 3 weeks top.

its the 2.0L that having long queue at the moment. book now u are lucky to have it delivered in sept.

Yeah it's actually plain. The 2.0s is of course the better choice. 16k for so many additional stuff is definitely worth it.... if you don't compare against the Korean Marque. But my wife's budget don't allow for it and she's not comfortable paying another 300 bucks more for the 2.0s variant... so just live with it biggrin.gif

At the end of the day, if want to be comfortable, can always take the Passat out instead. As this is the 2nd car for us, no need to spend so much extra la haha!

As far as critical must have is concerned, the only critical feature for us is the 4 airbags. Aside from the electric seats, everything else including DVD-navi can do aftermarket smile.gif

wow, that's insanely fast. SA in Penang Sungai Dua Honda said that waiting period is around 3 months, at the very least due to a long queue.

I say yes to the bolded part. When most people buy a new car they will be dependent on the distributor/manufacturer to service their ride and solve any technical problems with their cars. A gadget-filled car is useless if no one knows how to properly maintain it nor repair it. It should and it must play a critical role when choosing the brand of car to buy.

That said, IMO even T & H has less than stellar customer service in this country. It is a sad state that we have resort to choosing a brand with the least useless aftersales service these days.
Did i ever say that Kia has got poor after sales service? Have u ever been to a Kia SC? Try going to Red Cube PJ and spend a few hours there. See how they handle customers and solve problems. Ive been to Kia Ipoh and service there is great too and im saying this as a former Toyota owner who serviced at Toyota for 9 years.

We've all had issues with our cars but most of these issues has been resolved quite fast and professionally by Kia. Dont keep looking at past experiences. Go to the Forte forum and ask the owners there. Go find out the facts for yourself instead of blindly making assumptions based on heresay.

The Spectra was a load of crap la bro. Why do u keep going back to the past? That car was a problem from Day 1. Nobody could fix that car since it came with so many manufacturing defects. And isnt Peugeot under Nasim? Naza Kia is a different dealership although the parent company is the same.

SO basically if u take away the Spectra, Peugeot and the not so bad comments bout the Forte, it doesnt look as bad as you claimed earlier rite? And even if 2 Forte's had a very bad experience, does that suffice as a general statement on Kia's quality standards?

At RM 133K (OTR), i think the current Mazda 6 2.0L would be a good choice.

I wasn't talking about KIA specifically.

I was addressing your statement that aftersales service is less important, it was a generalized reply to a generalized statement.
