Depends on whether you want portability or storage capacity. But since you want portability, yes, the 2.5" would be better.

How about WD's Passport Essential 1TB? It's a 2.5" USB3.0. It is adequately boring and neat. You don't want your HDDs to be 'exciting', other than being excited by escaping from USB2.0. laugh.gif

It looks nice enough. Asides from being satisfied with WD's Passports and some much old external HDDs, I don't know much about external HDDs. Other than that I have come across one 2.5" ext HDDs that you cannot reuse elsewhere because it is missing the standard SATA connector.

I did the mistake of sending it directly to Singapore. Costed me Rm90+ through Poslaju. Then did the direct warranty where I had to pay USD7.50 and they'd send a courier to pick up your hdd.

If your HDD is the standard non-external HDD, then you need to wrap it in electro static plastic. I am not sure if anyone here have tried without it. Its a big risk though since they might send the drive back to you without any replacement. Put it in a electro static bag and then put it in a bag. Insulate it with padding (sponge / newspapers) so the hdd doesn't move around when in transit. Put all of them in a box and print out the label from WDD website (when you claim from RMA they'll give you a link to print the label). Attach the label to the box and you're good to go.

i sent mine thru skynet and it cost me rm50, so i think its best u go thru the 7.50 charge
electro static plastic, if u did not throw those plastic tht wrap around your motherboard, graphic card you can use back then, try asking friends sure there is some1 kept it. not sure where to buy thou
any cardboard box will do fine, and i stuff it with newspaper instead of bubble wrap as long as the box is sealed tight and ur harddisk does not bounce around inside the box

I just put the HD in the bag m/b comes in. If you don't have any, I suppose you could go to computer shops and see if they have any in the trash from the new computers they've assembled for other customers.

Then put the whole thing in a DVD drive box. HDs are a lot smaller than DVD drives, so the built in padding is not enough. So I just pour in lots of packing peanuts. There are lots of those in my office, arrives every week from when suppliers sends us stuff. You could also use bubble wrap, newspapers, trash from the paper shredder, etc.

Thanks. When I was looking for an external HD last month, I saw that Buffalo was cheaper than WD and Seagate. I would have bought it if I had known it was Samsung. But when I asked the shop, they said "don't know". So I bought Seagate instead.

For the average home user, newspapers should be enough. Sent mine in with newspapers and was accepted. Just make sure that your HDD doesn't shake when you shake the box. If it does, that means the HDD is not secured enough. This will increase your risk of being denied RMA
