I can assure you that SEL50F18 has OSS. But beware some people has received their 50mm with defective OSS module. When you attach the lens and turn on the camera, you can hear a loud and long grinding noise coming out from the lens.
*
Sorry one stupid question, you meant the defected one has the loud and long grinding noise or the normal one?

Yup. the defective one has this grinding noise. But so far I have heard three cases only. I was one of them and I just send it back for repair.

The Hexanon master has spoken haha... I still only have 1 atm, the price for the rest (especially macro and f1.4) all ended up in high prices. How much for the Voigt? Looks sophisticated thumbup.gif

hahah.. i not master lah! just most ppl here think Konica is lousy brand for camera.
I normally don't follow the majority, instead go for odd option by own research on best price/performance products.
that's how i choose NEX also although quite a numbers of surrounding friends are C&N photographers! sweat.gif
It's painful to let go those hexanons, but no point to keep them only in the dry cabinet. better let go for other ppl who can enjoy using it.
I will try to do short review and sample photo for each i have then share with you guys. that's will take a while! tongue.gif

The Voigtlander Ultron 28mm f2.0 brand new around RM2k, can order from Shashinki or some local shops.
i got mine 2nd hand with slightly lower price. it is small but solid and heavy like those metal built hexanons. thumbup.gif
no time to test shoot outside yet. hopefully this weekend can bring out for shooting.

thumbup.gif thumbs up for u bro...

Unless u r on CZ or Leica, whoever thinks the Konica Hexanon is lousy certainly is ignorant... should pick up their best lens & benchmark again a real hexanon pixel to pixel. I'll bet on a hexanon prime any day.

I'm selling lenses for modern canikon's, & sold a huge load legacy lenses from nikkor kogaku, canon fd, takumar, minolta, tokina, tamron etc,... only a fraction... very small selected faction will even come close the Hexanon's quality.

While the konica zooms cant match today's quality in terms of distortion. The Hexanon primes is really tough to beat even on today latest lenses. If you know how to use that is...

Problem with people is that they dunno the sharper the lens, the higher shutter speed is need. The thumb rule 1/mm of focal length rules is hardly sharp... it d edge of nearly useless. U need at least 2x on a pair of good hands... for u & me probably 3x of that to actually see d sharpness difference. Otherwise use ur tripod... as they say.. the sharpest lens in ur camera bag is ur tripod.

From my personal test... with the exception of the 57F1.4 & 57F1.2, all other Hexanon primes on NEX cropped APS-C is sharp edge to edge wide open. Characteristic of hexanon... distortionless on all primes... DoF is curved nearer to you towards edge & becomes thinner. But if u focus properly using MF assist, corners are still sharp wide open.

how's ur Voigtlander? ... I did try a 35F1.4... certainly not as sharp as d price made me tot if would be.

Hi Kurodo,
it's great to know another person who know well about konica hexanon lenses here.
You are certainly better than me on appreciating the hexanon prime!

Thanks for further elaborate on the sharpness against shutter speed!!
I learn this by experience after some time. That's why when do without flash, a bit hard for me to get eye sharpness on the model when wide open at f1.4, with speed 1/50-1/60.
During the studio shot with flash and up the speed to 1/125s, i can get razor sharp photo easily at f1.4!!!!
I also found they are really good in shooting B&W, with the nice contrast and tone!

for Voigtlander, at first i was thinking to get 40/1.4 or 35/1.4 which is really compact size. but after read the review on KenRockwell.com that the both are worthless for the price, it have change my mind to get the 28/2.0 which is just slightly below the Leica quality but with the price i can afford!!
I still haven't got chance to test the lens. will do it soon.

where are you from? if around KL then we can meet and try each others lenses!! Maybe can let others try the power of Hexanon too!!!

Any good Hexas in the 30mm focal range? 50mm doesn't really suit my shooting style laugh.gif The 30mm Sigma E-mount crossed my mind, but the speed isn't exactly that much faster than the kit lens.

2K for a Voigt... I think I'll be staying away from it until I get a promotion or a major pay raise tongue.gif

imho.. I think the post processing, saturation, sharpening is slightly overdone. The color banding of the orange above the horizon, looks unnatural to me, but the top half of the sky looks good. I guess it may help if the boat was places on the 3rd line on the right side instead of the left, so that there is space in front of the boat. Just sharing my opinions icon_rolleyes.gif .

I read some review comparing 30mm & 50mm at the same aperture of let say F1.4, the 30mm will produced a softer but not so sharp focused image compare to the 50mm lens wor

where got US410,000 that high? the bhphoto only selling USD10995!!! rclxub.gif
hahaha.. i wish i will be that loaded to go for the noctilux!  drool.gif
btw, there is no point to go up to f0.95. the DOF is too shallow. even for f1.4 sometime hard to get the subject fully covered if get too close.

actually for past year of search online, i found that Konica Hexanon is the best price/performance lens.
the lens are very sharp especially 50/1.7, where 50/1.4 have better bokeh. 57/1.4 slightly less sharp than 1.7 and 1.4 but the old lens colour rendition and bokeh is very nice.
those older Hexanon '70 and before have some kind of characteristic while maintain some high quality close towards Zeiss and even Leica.
Konica produced nice Hexanon lenses with highest quality at that era, with their own optical formula.
however, the hexanon are not that popular like Nikon and Canon, as their lens have shallower registered length than those lenses. So only a few camera can fit the AR mount, end up only Konica camera users.  doh.gif
Of course they have higher range for Leica rangefinder, the ultimate M-Hexanon range!!! drool.gif
But now with Sony NEX and MFT camera, now we can enjoy this cheap but good quality lenses!!! rclxms.gif
If you live in US, you might get it at very cheap price depends on your luck!!!
Here we have limited source for Hexanon, and the US shipping is really not pocket friendly!! rclxub.gif
My advise for ebay bidder, you must avoid shipping with USPS First Class mail at all!! it is just normal airmail without tracking number and not registered. you end up missing in the hand of local post office!!! mad.gif
Priority mail is better and Express mail is the best for tracking, and both will be handled here by poslaju EMS.

now the reason i want to let go most of my Hexanon not because it is not good, but I prefer to have my NEX in more compact size. Hence I go for Leica M mount lens which is the lens is very compact as well as thin adapter,  and it seems they fit the NEX body better than the SEL lenses! thumbup.gif
I still couldn't afford the Leica M lenses which more than RM3k. So first I got the Voigtlander 28mm F2.0 which have very good review from http://www.kenrockwell.com/voigtlander/28mm-f2.htm!

It's nice to see my good-old Voigtlander 28mm landed on somebody who can utilize it more than me.
I will still be using that lens if I din't went into my Leica 28mm f/2.8 ASPH.

Cheers ! biggrin.gif

yes true, i feel also 30mm is better for everyday shoot. and 28mm is even more close to my eyes view angle!
there is no 30mm Hexanon. But I have 28mm F3.5.
I wish i have the UC Hexanon 28mm f1.8, but it is rare and now very high price to bid! doh.gif
There are 35mm f2 but very rare, maybe you can try to get 35mm F2.8. Hexanon 35mm f2.8
or else try the pancake 40mm 1.8. thumbup.gif

From previous pages I learned folks got best price at Mid Valley, is there any place else selling 5N for a competitive price? I came to Mid Valley yesterday and they said 5N had been out of stock.

Hi guys,

I just got my Nex 5N.
Now I am gonna ask for some advice, please help:

1. Where could I get a good LCD screen protector in KL or PJ? Or online purchase? And which brand is the best?

2. Which adapter to recommend get if I wanted to use Leica M mount lens?

3. Any recommendation for an extra battery?

4. Do u think it is good to get the EVF viewfinder?

5. How about a half body case, would it helps the handling?

Thank you in advance

Maybe because 50mm the subject will be bigger than say 30mm? I'm no optical engineer so I have no idea. Or is the reviewer talking about the same lens but at different focal length? hmm.gif

f3.5 too slow for my liking, f2.8 is same with 30mm Sigma E-mount tongue.gif f2 should be good enough, but the UC Hexanon you mentioned sounds perfect... 28mm (right focal length) and f1.8 (decent speed). I guess the same basic rule applies here: you get what you paid for and good things don't come cheap laugh.gif

I'm using a cheap RM10 screen protector (brand is KEEP or something like that), it serves to protect the screen but also reflects like hell. Very hard to see what's actually on the LCD under broad daylight, so I suggest you avoid overly cheap ones.
