For 3k budget, I suggest you get the M50 + viltrox 23mm f1.4 or sony a6000 + viltrox 23mm used.

Those lens that comes with the camera are called kit lens, they are not that much better than your smartphone lenses. What is it that your smartphone camera cannot do for you that you need to get a dslr camera? If you going to get a kit lens, then you better off saving your money and used that to contribute to your next smartphone upgrade, because kit lens usually are not that much better than your smart phone lenses.

I'm looking for a camera that can taking videos, wefie and clear audio recording during travels. It has to be lightweight as phone on a selfie stick can be troublesome and heavy to use when travelling with children in poor weather (rain, snow) and phone drop off easily. So I'm looking for a dedicated camera. Would a 360 camera be good? Insta360 or Go Pro? What brand and model?

Having used Canon, Sony and Fuji (currently) I can personally vouch for Fujifilm's colour science as THEY ARE AMAZING right out from the camera (JPEG or RAW).

Sure, you can always post process each of your pictures but may be time consuming depending on how picky you are.

Some other considerations for event photography:

For pictures of people, get a good external flash unit with a diffuser of your choice.
Busy background? See if you can squeeze in a 50mm f/1.4 lens to get a shallower depth of field (DOF) to blur the busy background. A 85mm f/1.8 lens would give an even shallower DOF but you need to stand quite a bit back.

Otherwise, an all rounder would be a zoom lens or a kit lens that comes with the camera (must have image stabilisation!). If budget permits, see if you can get a zoom lens with a bigger aperture like the Fuji 18-55mm with f/2.8-4 aperture (not sure what are the prices right now).

For inanimate objects like the finer details.. pictures of food, gifts, flowers, etc, a longer focal length is usually desirable to minimize the wide angle distortion which will result in disproportionate size like objects near the lens will appear larger, objects further away will appear much smaller.

Type of camera/lens/accesories : Lens for Sony A6400
Budget : <RM2000
Your Location : KL
Preferable brand : Any
Type of photography u want to do : Landscape or Portrait
Any specific models in mind? : No
Any specific features u want? : No

I just bought the Sony A6400 with kit lens. Like others said, pictures are not that much better from Iphone regretably. So looking to upgrade with proper lens.
Also, do I sell my kit lens or how ya?

Oh, and I just use my camera casually for events like relative's wedding or when I go on vacation.

Appreciate any inputs.

Keep the kit lens. Depends on our budgets, you can look at 1) Sony 35mm f1.8, 2) Sigma 30mm F1.4 DC DN or 3) Viltrox 33mm f1.4. Personally, I would get the Sigma 30mm f1.4 for the bigger maximum aperture.

If you dont mind to use manual focus to try out the focal length / aperture, can go for 7artisans.

Just sharing my pov, im not a professional photographer but a hobbyist who have spent about 10k on it (im using sony a6300).
For kit lens, it really is almost equivalent to what a phone camera can achieve, heck, even samsung s23 ultra zoom is so powerful, or 14pro max ultra wide.

You need a lens that can do something your phone cant achieve. If you want to enjoy landscape, go for ultra wide or telephoto 70-300 (probably the cheapest sony lens for telephoto).
If portrait or night shot? go for sigma 30mm f1.4 or sony 35mm f1.4.

asking for my near 70 yrs old dad camera.

was suggested him ZFC but he last time own sony nex3, his lens cap went missing, i don't think he ever change lens too, i don't know is he picky about camera mode or not or he just auto all the way.BUT his pixel 4a still working fine. (get him ZFC because he used to be own nikon FM2 but sold it out after 3 years, but again he actually shit in learning new stuff so maybe Zfc still not really good for him)

so then i was thinking get him a new compact camera so can just shoot and forget, easy for me, easy for him. no need scare about lens cap missing, light and easy.
mostly shoot trip photo, so basically low light performance is really the one need to know how well compact can do despite small sensor size.

so far asking around internet people suggest me:

Sony ZV-1 / ZV-1F
Sony RX 100
Ricoh GR3 (i think this one expensive and battery life seems short, not good for whole day trip photo)
Canon G5 or G7 i don't know what's the difference... rclxub.gif

i, myself suggest him
Zfc or Z50, or maybe even Z30 unsure.gif

budget not sure how much he wanted, maybe rm1-3k? depends on performance maybe can go up a bit

Lens cap you can find replacement on shopee/lazada.

Also your dad ask one or you just think he needs one? He just wants to take photo or tinker with new gadget? Cause there is a difference between owning camera like RX100 and Fuji with bunch of dials on top. So far I only hear "I suggest" not "what he wants".

So is motorbike and car custom but u don't those rempit complaining their hobby expensive.

Anyway e mount apsc camera u spoil for choice with tons of cheap quality third party lens <RM2K from sigma, and viltrox all with usable AF.

Want very wide shot? 13mm viltrox f1.4 or 16mm 1.4 from sigma. Want portrait shot? 56mm from either sigma or cheaper viltrox all f1.4. Want in between? 30mm from sigma or 23mm or 33mm f1.4 from viltrox.

There are others like samyang but I don't believe they updated aspc line up lately.

As long u don't step into FF territory, ur budget is manageable.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions! Playing around with this one right now.

Just wasn't expecting a prime lens (I'm a newbie I didn't know 30mm would imply it being a prime lens), but I'm getting the hang of it.

Cannot help if don't know what is the criteria.

If unwilling to learn usually sign of not that interested in taking photos. Just use smartphone enough.

I see pipu complaining photo out of camera is so dull compare to phone camera but don't even bother to use lightroom and/or get prime lens at least. I see most uncle aunty not into photo crafting already satisfy with their smartphone shot of the sunset, lol.
