wifi coverage and internet connection stability? BIG difference.

also, i have another question:

i currently have my Unifi setup (modem and router, minus hypptv) in one room. i want to place my Hypptv box in my living room (where my TV is, obviously). I currently have an Asus RT-N12B1 running on tomato firmware in Wireless Ethernet Bridge mode near my TV. so far this setup works very well with my BD player and PS3, but when i connect my Hypptv box to it, it couldn't connect to the server. all other devices work fine. what can i do to solve the problem?

Anyone using TP-Link WR841ND have this issue? If you reboot via the web configuration page after changing some settings, it reverts back to non-UniFi mode so have to click UniFi mode and reboot again. However, turning off and on the router is OK.

Firmware is 3.12.07 (110726) flashed by TP-Link Service Center.

Fantastic router for its price. Just bought 2 units, one to use as UniFi router and one to extend WiFi with WDS.
Viewnet $77, $78 (Credit card)
CZone $85 (Q:Why more expensive? A:"I flash for you wor")

You can take to TP-Link Service Center, 4th Floor, LYP and ask Mr Grumpy tech support person to flash for you free. Just grumpy not rude. Swear if he was any shorter, Snow White & his 6 other bros would be there too.

Some boxes have UniFi Ready stickers. Doesn't matter, you still have to flash it to UniFi firmware. Just make sure it's hardware v7+. Mine is v7.2.

Exactly what FW version are you using?
I've just updated last night, try to use either FW 3.0.0.3.84 (from official site) or .74 (from my site)
The latest .94 & .96 has some issues, including vlan.600 broken & wireless issues (might be driver).

I personally prefer .84 for now.

Assuming you are trying to bridge the IPTV wirelessly, few things ...
The IPTV (vlan.600) is running independently interface on a specific LANport, it's not bind to vlan.500 interface.

Correct me if I'm wrong, to wirelessly connect vlan.600 with the STB, you probably need a pair of really good devices able to transmit clean ~9MB/s and above without any latency lag sweat.gif

Long ago I was trying to do test that, eventually I gave up after my last attempt on a pair of TL-WR941ND with pure-N, the video it's still not smooth and switching channel is slow .....

If your house is on single-phase power, perhaps you may want to consider HomePlug for your IPTV nod.gif

Oh btw, Broadcom chip seem to really runs well with Tomato.
I have a old first version RT-N12, recently pull out from store room, change a pair of 5dBi antenna, flash with Shibby built, configure to act as an AP, impressive wifi performance I must say flex.gif !

Yes, I noticed that too.

Always hard re-set the device, both before and after flashing.
Make sure you quickly setup & save those WAN information before the webgui get auto refresh.
Once setup & saved, try not to go back again.
The UniFi mode should still be there even after reboot.

If you are not using Streamyx anymore, you may consider the previous custom firmware (download link at around middle page):

it's the same, except the 110726 has the option to go ADSL mode.

Streaming video and wifi sometimes just don't mix. Even if it's working nicely, all you need is your neighbour with a new N66U blasting away at the same channel and boom goes your wifi.

BTW I'm using Homeplug for the STB. Perfect.

Thanks for the tips. I'm setting this up for my uncle today so I won't have time to reflash and reconfigure. Hopefully he doesn't go and reboot the router from webconfig.

btw, I bought 2 x WR841ND. One for UniFi router and one for WDS. Initially both WR841ND was flashed with the UniFi 110726 firmware and WDS would not work properly. (Well it just goes one way, I can ping from router to AP but not the other way round, strange) I reflashed the AP back to the latest stock firmware from TPLink's website and it's OK. Weird, huh?

One more thing, with regards to RB750GL, if I load the config that you have on your website, the one for RB750G, the LAN ports gets reversed. ether1 becomes ether5. Had me confused there for a while. Of course, doing a manual setup with your steps works perfectly. Many thanks for that. You don't know how invaluable klseet.com has been for me during my early UniFi days.

i'm on .96 FW. can FW versions affect uplink/downlink speeds?? i have not encountered any issues with wifi, etc. just very bad upload speeds. (see my speedtest results in my previous post)

will homeplug LAN help bridge my iptv to my router? (i live in a condo, so should be single phase)
any recommended brands that are compatible?

I bought mine at RM79. Honestly I tell u I really dont regret spending the rm79 for the tplink 841... is comparable to those overpriced routers out there. 100days without restarting it, heavy seeding, NAS, network player running on it, watching bluray movies on my media player via network. No issues, rock solid. 100% recommended rclxms.gif

Wow... 8.XXMB over wifi. Nice!!
Anyway... I don't understand why we need ~9MB/s for IPTV. I thought tm dedicated just 8Mbps bandwidth for IPTV(1MB/s)???

hi guys,

here's my problem.

i'm trying to setup access to my cctv from the internet.

what i've done are portforwarding the cctv port, set dmz to the cctv lan ip, get a free hostname on dyndns.org and setup the ddns account in the unifi router.

so now, i'm expecting to see my cctv login page when i access my dyndns.org hostname, right?

but now i'm seeing my router page instead. i'm puzzled why i am seeing my router page.

anyone has any idea or suggestions how to troubleshoot this? there's no problem accessing my cctv login page with the lan ip.

im still using DIR-615 router, updated to 7.09 firmware version (don't think it's firmware version because it hasn't been working since the previous firmware)

thanks!

Homeplug will do it. I have my ONT and router upstairs and use Homeplug to bring the IPTV down to the living room. I'm using the 500mbps one from Aztech. Works well. I think the cheaper 200mbps models should suffice as well. Whatever you do don't get the Aztech MediaXtreme 1Gbps ones. They tend to lose connection and people say they overheat though I didn't use them long enough to notice it.

ya happened to me when using it last 2month. after reboot, need to change back to unifi mode and save. then unifi connected. last resort, flashed to klseet firmware and problem resolved. not using it now. changed to 1043ND.
