Long time no here, been busy, hope I didn't miss out any interesting here laugh.gif

Not sure whether others have mentioned the following before, just want to update with regards to UniFi routers.

ASUS RT-N15U (new!)
- another Broadcom gigabit to support 3 digits vlans from ASUS notworthy.gif !
- just started testing, so far both internet & IPTV working ok, will stress test over the weekend again flex.gif ...
Attached Image
Attached Image

ASUS RT-N16
- use either FW 3.0.0.3.84 (from official site) or .74 (from my site)
- the latest .94 & .96 have some issues including IPTV, already reported, waiting for fixes, hopefully next release.

TP-Link TL-WR841ND Ver7x
- use wr841nv7_en_3_12_7_up(110726)
- the latest FW does not support UniFi

TP-Link TL-WR1043ND ver1x
- use wr1043nv1_en_3_13_4_up(110906)
- the latest FW does not support UniFi

TP-Link seem to be rather quiet now, already request UniFi support on their latest DualBand TL-WR2543ND (1 band at 1 time) and the up-coming TL-WR2843ND (simultaneous bands), not sure whether they will do it, their engineers seem to be forever busy sweat.gif .....

At this moment, ASUS seem to be more aggressive & supportive smile.gif , they are trying their best to make UniFi-support for all new routers. Really can't wait for the RT-N66 Knight drool.gif ...

it is on wired connection. using Asus RT-N16 router with latest firmware.
Exactly what FW version are you using?
I've just updated last night, try to use either FW 3.0.0.3.84 (from official site) or .74 (from my site)
The latest .94 & .96 has some issues, including vlan.600 broken & wireless issues (might be driver).

I personally prefer .84 for now.

...i currently have my Unifi setup (modem and router, minus hypptv) in one room. i want to place my Hypptv box in my living room (where my TV is, obviously). I currently have an Asus RT-N12B1 running on tomato firmware in Wireless Ethernet Bridge mode near my TV. so far this setup works very well with my BD player and PS3, but when i connect my Hypptv box to it, it couldn't connect to the server. all other devices work fine. what can i do to solve the problem?
Assuming you are trying to bridge the IPTV wirelessly, few things ...
The IPTV (vlan.600) is running independently interface on a specific LANport, it's not bind to vlan.500 interface.

Correct me if I'm wrong, to wirelessly connect vlan.600 with the STB, you probably need a pair of really good devices able to transmit clean ~9MB/s and above without any latency lag sweat.gif

Long ago I was trying to do test that, eventually I gave up after my last attempt on a pair of TL-WR941ND with pure-N, the video it's still not smooth and switching channel is slow .....

If your house is on single-phase power, perhaps you may want to consider HomePlug for your IPTV nod.gif

Oh btw, Broadcom chip seem to really runs well with Tomato.
I have a old first version RT-N12, recently pull out from store room, change a pair of 5dBi antenna, flash with Shibby built, configure to act as an AP, impressive wifi performance I must say flex.gif !

Anyone using TP-Link WR841ND have this issue? If you reboot via the web configuration page after changing some settings, it reverts back to non-UniFi mode so have to click UniFi mode and reboot again. However, turning off and on the router is OK.

Firmware is 3.12.07 (110726) flashed by TP-Link Service Center.
Yes, I noticed that too.

Always hard re-set the device, both before and after flashing.
Make sure you quickly setup & save those WAN information before the webgui get auto refresh.
Once setup & saved, try not to go back again.
The UniFi mode should still be there even after reboot.

If you are not using Streamyx anymore, you may consider the previous custom firmware (download link at around middle page):
http://klseet.com/index.php?option=com_con...e&id=7&Itemid=6
it's the same, except the 110726 has the option to go ADSL mode.

... one for WDS. Initially both WR841ND was flashed with the UniFi 110726 firmware and WDS would not work properly.... I reflashed the AP back to the latest stock firmware from TPLink's website and it's OK. Weird, huh?

One more thing, with regards to RB750GL, if I load the config that you have on your website, the one for RB750G, the LAN ports gets reversed. ether1 becomes ether5. Had me confused there for a while. Of course, doing a manual setup with your steps works perfectly. Many thanks for that. You don't know how invaluable klseet.com has been for me during my early UniFi days.
*
If want to use WDS, better use the latest non-UniFi FW, not sure whether the custom UniFi FW has broken the WDS bridge .....

Glad to know my messy+lousy documentation helps, am still junior, am still learning blush.gif ....

Strange that the config file can't work on your RB750GL, it's been a while I didn't play with RB, also didn't update those config files properly, busy workload ..... I suspect may be different batch use different switch chip, so the port layout different ? hmm.gif

QUOTE(deathbringer @ Feb 25 2012, 03:40 PM)
i'm on .96 FW. can FW versions affect uplink/downlink speeds?? i have not encountered any issues with wifi, etc. just very bad upload speeds. (see my speedtest results in my previous post)

will homeplug LAN help bridge my iptv to my router? (i live in a condo, so should be single phase)
any recommended brands that are compatible?
*
Do you have such up/down link speed on stock DIR-615?
I doubt it's the FW on RT-N16.

Try Factory Restore and goes back to .84
Setup QoS, it's working well on the new ASUSWRT compare to those previous FW blue colour with a rather annoying doctor FW ....

QUOTE(IwanAGP @ Feb 25 2012, 05:47 PM)
...why we need ~9MB/s for IPTV. I thought tm dedicated just 8Mbps bandwidth for IPTV(1MB/s)???
*
When I first got my UniFi in 2010, I was trying to link STB wirelessly, so I pull out some routers, started with 3,4,5,6MB/s, stock and/or 3rd party FW, all cannot work properly....

Got angry, so bought a pair of TL-WR941ND (that time Tl-WR1043ND still expensive), AES N-only, manage to get around 6~8MB/s, but image & switching channels still lag doh.gif ...

I also notice on LAN, if stream 720P, around 6MB/s is sufficient, but when stream 1080P it just won't work even I can get 8~9MB/s, video/sound lag, frame drops ....

The IPTV uses less than 10Mbps, I really can't understand why it just won't stream properly wirelessly, not sure what went wrong, I presume it can perform better if can get beyond 9MB/s, or may be should use a pair of dual-band 450~600Mbps devices to run on 5Ghz band sweat.gif ... I gave up liao ....

QUOTE(soonwai @ Feb 25 2012, 03:35 PM)
Streaming video and wifi sometimes just don't mix. Even if it's working nicely, all you need is your neighbour with a new N66U blasting away at the same channel and boom goes your wifi.
Now that UniFi become popular, I can see my surrounding full of that Ralink DIR-615 signal channels flying everywhere.... sweat.gif

Wifi is really complicated and strange, that's why I always go wired whenever possible, only use wifi for browsing & mobile devices.

I was running LinuxMint LXDE with qBittorrent on one of my old machine Dell Optiplex GX240 as download center, currently testing the ASUS RT-N15U, limit the down/up load to 450KB/s each, certainly torrented more than 9GB/day and I don't feel any slow down, yet cool.gif

Just want to update some of the following:

RT-N12-C1
- NEW from ASUS
- Tested and initial custom firmware is out

RT-N16
- NEW official FW 3.0.0.3.108

RT-N56U - Custom by Padavan
- For RT-N56U users, check out the Padavan's enhancement work!
- To me, it's impressive, especially the 2.4GHz spectrum, the best so far I can get on my laptop thumbup.gif

Some ask about the new ASUSWRT release date, my latest information indicate it will roll out to the following:
RT-N66U / RT-N16 - Immediate availability
RT-N53 / RT-N65U - around May
RT-N56U - around June
RT-N13U-C1 / RT-N63 - around Aug

I'm afraid all other current models which is not in the list above won't have the ASUSWRT ....

For OpenWRT lover cool.gif

TL-MR3420 v1.2
- only managed to get vlan.500 working sweat.gif
- need help from others if can get the vlan.600 IPTV working

Note: For both the 1043 & 3420 with the USB port, now can install USB+SWAP+ExtRoot+<packages you like> nod.gif

TL-WR740N v4.2
- same like above, only can get vlan.500 working ....
- probably the cheapest for UniFi internet only ?! tongue.gif

TL-WR941ND v3.2
- I've done the manual setup steps based on Rizvanrp's config file (thx buddy!) on Ver3.2
- Same steps should work on other Ver3x

Phew that's it for time being, gtg for work, do enjoy your toys with UniFi ! laugh.gif

Oh btw, during weekend, saw those UniFi RM30/mth for many channels flying everywhere on the screen, my emails and SMSs ... sweat.gif

Can't believe it's true, so Sunday check TM website, it's true woh drool.gif

So grab my remote, follow the "i" instruction until the screen where it require me to enter the 6 digits pin, but no matter what I entered, it refuse ....

No choice have to call the chargeable 1300 ... CS line:
- talk to 2 support staff
- they reset everything with new STB password
- the 6 digits pin still won't work
- worst, it got lock out and cannot even enter sweat.gif

Luckily they escalate and immediately transfer my line to next level, believed to be the technical department:
- another tech lady said will re-set everything again
- I told her was done twice already still won't work
- but she insisted to re-do sweat.gif
- fine, re-do, but still won't work (as expected la!) cry.gif

After spending - spent over 2 hours on the phone on Sunday morning till noon, chargeable somemore, I got a bit anygry mad.gif and told them off:
- do whatever you can over there
- i'm not going to waste my time anymore
- i'm not going to pay for TM's problem anymore

and just hangup the phone and go out Sunday jalan-jalan.

By evening when I got home, quickly turn-on the STB, phew, all done, all the RM30 value package with loads of HD channels all there ! drool.gif

No matter what was transpired, compare to the past, TM-UniFi support does do their part to get things done, even on a Sunday after screaming by a hot customer like me tongue.gif

Anywhere, I personally think the RM30 is really worth, so if you have the 6 digits PIN code issue, better call and ask them to subscribe directly nod.gif
