When you walk through a storm hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark.
At the end of a storm is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark.
Walk on through the wind,
Walk on through the rain,
Tho' your dreams be tossed and blown.
Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone,
You'll never, ever walk alone.

Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone,
You'll never, ever walk alone.

The History

1959 - Shankly appointed manager

user posted image

December 1st 1959 is a date that will forever be etched in the annals of Anfield history. For it was on this day that Liverpool Football Club announced Huddersfield Town boss Bill Shankly would be their new manager in succession to Phil Taylor.

On his appointment he released 24 players and began to reshape the team.Promotion to the First Division was achieved in 1961–62, and the club won the League for the first time in 17 years in 1963–64. Another League title followed in 1965–66, after the club had won their first FA Cup the previous season. The club won the League and UEFA Cup in 1972–73 and the FA Cup again a year later; after this, Shankly retired and was replaced by his assistant Bob Paisley.Paisley was even more successful than Shankly and the club won the League and UEFA Cup in 1975–76, his second season as manager. The following season they retained the League title, won the European Cup for the first time, but lost in the FA Cup final, narrowly missing out on a treble. Liverpool retained the European Cup the next season, and the season after won the League again with 68 points—a domestic record, conceding only 16 goals in 42 league matches.During the nine seasons Paisley managed the club, Liverpool won 21 trophies, including three European Cups, a UEFA Cup, six league titles and three consecutive League Cups. The only domestic trophy to elude him was the FA Cup.

Paisley retired in 1983 and (as Shankly had done) handed the reins to his assistant, veteran coach Joe Fagan. The succession of coaches came from the Anfield Boot Room where the Liverpool staff discussed strategy and allegedly stored gin.[10] Liverpool won three trophies in Fagan's first season in charge: the League, League Cup and European Cup, becoming the first English side to win three trophies in a season.Liverpool reached the European Cup final again in 1985. The match was against Juventus at the Heysel Stadium. Before kick-off, disaster struck: Liverpool fans breached a fence which separated the two groups of supporters and charged the Juventus fans. The resulting weight of people caused a retaining wall to collapse, killing 39 fans, mostly Italians. The match was played regardless and Liverpool lost 1–0 to Juventus. English clubs were consequently banned from participating in European competition for five years; Liverpool received a ten-year ban, which was later reduced to six years. Fourteen of their fans received convictions for involuntary manslaughter.

Fagan resigned after the disaster and Kenny Dalglish was appointed as player-manager.During his reign, the club won another three League Championships and two FA Cups, including a League and Cup "Double" in 1985–86. Liverpool's success was overshadowed by the Hillsborough Disaster: in an FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest on 15 April 1989, hundreds of Liverpool fans were crushed. 94 fans died that day; the 95th victim died in hospital from his injuries four days later, and the 96th died nearly four years later without regaining consciousness. After the Hillsborough tragedy there was a governmental review of stadium safety. Known as the Taylor Report, it paved the way for legislation which required top-division teams to have all-seater stadiums. The report ruled that the main reason for the disaster was overcrowding due to a failure of police control.Dalglish cited the Hillsborough Disaster and its repercussions as the reason for his resignation in 1991. He was replaced by former player Graeme Souness. Apart from winning the FA Cup in 1992, Souness achieved little success and was replaced by a former member of the "Boot Room", Roy Evans. Evans fared little better: a League Cup victory in 1995 was his only trophy. Gérard Houllier was appointed as co-manager in 1998–99, but was left in sole charge after Evans resigned in November 1998.

In his second season in charge Liverpool won a unique treble of the FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup.In the 2001-02 season, during which Houllier underwent major heart surgery, Liverpool finished second behind Arsenal. The following seasons failed to live up to expectations and Houllier was replaced by Rafael Benítez. The club finished fifth in his first season in charge but won the UEFA Champions League by beating Milan 3–2 in a penalty shootout after the match finished 3–3.The following season Liverpool finished third with 82 points—their highest total since 1988. They won the FA Cup as they had the Champions League victory the previous season, by beating West Ham United in penalty shootout after the match finished at 3–3. In 2006–07, the club's search for investment came to an end when American businessmen George Gillett and Tom Hicks became the owners of Liverpool in a deal which valued the club and its outstanding debts at £218.9 million. That season, the club reached another Champions League final, but this time lost 2–1 to Milan

Our current defenders line up are very solid with good passing ability. Sorry Carragher, Skertel - Agger combo provide more calmness with equal defensive solidity.

Yesterday game was Charlie Adam best performance so far, good defensive work rate, nice movements & passing. Now the understanding between Lucas & Adam is getting better.

I'm glad we're able to get a win, the whole team deserves the credit. It's an off day for Suarez though, I think he need some good rests.

We were very lucky to have Lucas, track down everytime to help with the defence. The Chelsea goal was a very bad defensive mistake, nobody was tracking Malouda

its not often to have a defensive midfield so obvious in his contribution.....

Maybe KD play maxi bcoz he wants to rotate his 1st team player (downing henderson) for man city..lol

Are you sure?
But all these while, i am not a fan of C.Adam's defensive ability.
Lets look at the equalizer from Chelsea, Adam's position was poor, F.Malouda was given space to run at, G.Johnson has to check on Ashley Cole, thus giving tons of space for Malouda to run at.

Let's give credit when due to. Adam involved in both goals. In fact, most of the goals we scored this season came from his involvement. He is piss poor when it comes to tackling and defending but I think he did pretty well last nite in tackling and nicking the ball away from the blue midfielders. Anyway, he has Lucas to cover his ass up. Lucas can do all the dirty job as long as Adam keep creating chances for the front line.

However, I must say that Adam's corner last nite were piss poor. Nowhere near the 10m rated corner we are seeing last time around. Low ball to the near post where most of the blue shirts are and he actually tried it few times despite trying in vain for the previous few attempts. Hmm, poor decision making.

Adam gave Malouda space but he was right at his position and he just didnt close him down or tackle but that's more like precaution way of avoiding unnecessary tackling to gift the opponent penalty.

The real culprit was Enrique who didnt man mark Daniel Sturridge and the latter just slotted in the easiest goal of century and he then began shaking his ass, rubbing his armpit for his celebration, contributing my eyesores. I blamed Enrique for that.

All this while, I think that Enrique was our best buy this summer simply because he is reliable and consistent. It stunned me when Spain preferred to play our beloved Arbeloa over him when Arbeloa is a natural RB instead of LB. Last night match explained it all. If you cant perform well in big game, you are not ready for the big stage in national team. If enrique want the call up, he need to buck up and play better in big games. He wasnt even up to his usual standard last nite. Poor crossing, poor man marking, losing possession. Even Robbo did better than him in big games (against arsenal) biggrin.gif

not to discredit CA but it was a world wide field that johnson ran into. a win like this is surely great but we need to beat the smaller teams to make these kind of results count. perhaps from now on its better to start with bellamy and maxi, and bench downing and henderson (and carroll).

did not watch the game but i heard we were palying badly in the 2nd? read somewhere we played for counter attacking?

Yes, we played extremely bad in the second half. Normally, we played better in 2nd half, no? I think the players get complacent. For 20minutes or so, we were defending deep despite conceded a goal. Instead of pushing forward, we looked like we were looking for a draw. I had no idea why though. Luckily, a moment of brilliance from Adam and Johnson made it up for us smile.gif

Considering the fatigue level, I don't think there was anything wrong to play counter attack in the 2nd half. We were pressing them aggressively in the first half so its understandable that the players started to show some mental and physical fatigue in the second half. Adam in particular was clearly pancit, he looked very laborious so i think the idea of bringing in Jordan to help tighten up the midfield made a lot of sense.

We seriously need to start playing high pressing football again, if we can destablize a team like Chelsea, imagine the impact of pressing against lesser teams. Hopefully, the reason why we're not seeing much of Maxi and Kuyt is that Kenny wants them fit and ready for the 2nd half of the season.

City's back 4 is really tough to break down. With Kompany coming back after a red card, lets hope our lads put on their best attacking form so as defensively.

I think liverpool should give glen Johnson a winger role and let martin kelly take his right back place. Since Glen Johnson enjoy going forward, let him be an attacking force.

superb spirit shown by the lads last night especially the 2nd goal. reminds me of gerrard's long pass back when he's paired with didi hamann, crossing to an open player on the other side of the pitch. lots of goals came that way back then IMO. was a great performance nonetheless. certainly cant wait for what KK have installed for city biggrin.gif

I saw Dyer play against the mancs and he was giving Evra a torrid time so much so that Fergie had to replace him with Fabio. Reminds me of a young Shaun Wright Phillips. He showed no fear and took the game to Evra by running at him in one-on-one situations. Might prove to be good value.

i hav a very strong feeling tat we will be the first team this season to beat MC, provided KD play the same lineup again, with Lucas and Adam playing the midfield duo , Maxi is sharp so is Bellamy, why did KD sub out Bellamy so soon?

I think liverpool should give glen Johnson a winger role and let martin kelly take his right back place. Since Glen Johnson enjoy going forward, let him be an attacking force.

u haven't been quite a predictioner (if I remember) tongue.gif

never the less, its my hope we stretch MC, given they (MC) have all wins n 1 draw, we'll (still) be cautious.

We'll take each game as it comes along. christmas/year end schedules will be hectic, & it will be super to be within touching distance with the leaders.

maxi and bellamy combo is nice, with suarez upfront it mean we played narrow football.

but then maxi and bellamy is invicible in the 2nd half.

to operate narrow football, strong and high work rate midfield is needed.we got that in lucas and kuyt.Adam is superb in the first half, but with he lack stamina to keep pressing.

if we are playing johnson in the wing..than kuyt is best placed as central striker.

Not all substitutions are made because a player is tired or having a bad game. Happens when you make a tactical switch and in this case we were clearly overrun in midfield and there is no point in having two forwards when you can't even get possession of the ball, hence Bellamy was sacrificed. That being said he was largely ineffectual up front in the second half.

They do constitute for the largest number of LFC Facebook fans in the world but yeah I get what you mean. Passionate support is admired but the Indonesian fans are hostile. No place for them in any club for that matter.

well one thing i noticed from the past few games...Luis Suarez had been overdoing it.

there were a few instances in the 1st half he overdid it and didnt pass to open players ie Bellamy & Maxi

i know he is skillful but sometimes passing is the better option

Hopefully the coaches & KD will address this so as to NOT waste possession and goal-scoring chances

Seems like their tactic of buying whoever scored against the from Liverpool has not been working for them yet.

Maybe we can buy Sturidge b4 the game at Anfield to score against them. tongue.gif

if anything our scoring records show that our strikers cant score and we need to rely on so many players to provide the occasional goal

True..apart from the 4-0 defeat at WHL , we have conceded least goals in BPL.

Meanwhile, Bellamy's thought on his return to Anfield.

“This was everything I wanted,’ said Bellamy. "I'd never sound negative against Rafa or Gerard Houllier because they did so much for the club and were outstanding for the club.

But this was the Liverpool I grew up supporting. I watched the way they played towards the end of last season, the passing and moving, the free-flowing football. It felt like it was back.”

Lot of work today so point form for me:-

1) Inability to break down tight defences. Big teams attack us. Notice the amount of space Chelsea afforded us in the first half. Also, Johnson's second goal was a result of a raking crossfield pass which he ran onto. To break tight defences, we need to move the ball instead of hoping for Suarez to dribble past 5 defenders - pass and move. This will improve as players play together more often and have a better understanding of one another. The Suarez-Bellamy-Maxi goal is a prime example. Quick ball movement making if difficult for defenders to adjust.

Actually, that's about all I have.

The commentator of the match did say on Saurez as well. He may be good, tricky, and can create something out of nothing, but stat wise, shot on goal not less than 40-50, but only 4 goals scored until now is not good enough stat.

Simple, not clinical enough, when chance created, you must take it.
This is always the different between top 4 of the league vs middle table team.
Opponent make mistake, you must capitalise, then going to win 1-0. Just like what happened in the win over Chelsea match.

Also tempo is not high enough and movement of the ball is not quick enough.

Don't know my observation correct or not, the team play the ball better on the ground and pass and move more, with Kyut, Bellamy, Suarez combination.
While when Carroll in the team, resort to long ball, and movement become slower.

If I'm to be honest, we to muster a lot of shots on goal but most are half chances. We don't create many clear cut opportunities.

Chelsea putting hope on Torres could be disaster?. I don't see Lukaku staying long enough like Drogba did.
Drogba (possibly) could be on his way out of Chelsea as well.

Wonder what could be Chelsea's backup plan for front line.

No Anelka please. His attitude sucks and no one likes him. Read what Robbie had to say about him in his biography. I want to see Adam Morgan progress to the first team.

Added on November 24, 2011, 1:10 pmBaffles me to no end how Enrique continues to be overlooked. I mean Capdevilla is old and Arbeloa is right footed. Neither have the pace Enrique has and whilst Arbeloa is arguably a better defender, he doesn't offer as much going forward. Oh well, Spain's loss is our gain.

Ah reminiscing about Torres are we lads? Well here's an ad I've watched countless times. I really miss doing the Torres bounce and singing his chant. Catchy as hell. Lost count the number of times I'd sing it at the top of my voice. I do wish him the best but certainly not while he is playing for one of our rivals, understandably so I hope. Club comes first.

Dalglish: Unhappy players can leave

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/...n-leave?cc=4716

Dalglish also pointed to a photograph that showed Downing celebrating after Liverpool's last-minute winner at Stamford Bridge to illustrate this point that his team was united.

"Did you see Stewart Downing's face when Glen Johnson scored?" he asked. "Print that picture rather than use any words from me to describe how he felt. It says more than I could ever say.

Dunn at the double in Utd win
25th Nov 2011 - Latest News

Jack Dunn struck a double as Liverpool U18s continued their superb away form with a 2-1 win at Manchester United on Friday afternoon.

The highly-rated England U17 starlet got the Reds off to a flyer when he drilled home inside the first minute to net his fifth goal of the campaign.

United responded and Sam Byrne's neat finish soon after looked to have earned the hosts a share of the spoils in what proved to be an end-to-end encounter.

However, deep into stoppage-time Liverpool swamped forward and substitute Nathan Quirk played in Dunn to seal the three points.

The former Liverpool Manager's love for the club isn't much of a secret. When he was viciously axed by the former owners, Rafa went to Inter Milan and once said that he didn't like the blue colours as it reminded him of Everton. Rafa has also been of tremendous help to the families of the Hillsborough victims along the years, also donating 96 thousand pounds when he left the club. Rafa received two standing ovations at the 2011 Hillsborough Memorial Service and was seen weeping in the crowd. Rafa will always be remembered for the right reasons at our club.

the worst case scenario is a draw and this also benefits MU cause its considered we managed to help them to close the gap to 3 points if they can beat Newcastle.
however we will win, or if we lose MU will and must be fuming biggrin.gif

i couldn't give a rats "S" about the team from toilet thinking we're gonna purposely lose tomoro.

they had their chance but was thrashed 6 at their toilet. So basically if we win tomoro it is because we want the winning streak to continue and be the team that stops the juggernauts that are man-city.

anyway, i'll hear lots of whining tomoro and i hope to see tons of toilet tissue complains on "the star" sms page.. since the paper and the "person who handles those sms" are part of the items that will accompany me to the toilet for my dump smile.gif

I am expecting those trollers anytime soon, maybe they are too sore to troll.

Meanwhile, we should contain MC'S set of strong wingers and at the same time spring some fast counter attack with Bellamy and Suarez. As usual Lucas and Adam should be called upon to provide cover and spray some good passes to foil MC. They Can be beaten, it just happen last Wed in the CL.

Go go go. let's beat them tonite. Not for the sake of MU but for our believe tat we can challenge for the crown.

I too am waiting for someone to say we'd want to lose on purpose tonight just to deny them the title. Same accusation was made last season when we played Chelsea and they never even had the courtesy to thank us when we beat them. Ungrateful ingrates. The same people who make these accusations must be the same who'd want their team to lose if the situation were reversed. Says a lot about someone as a fan really. I'd never want my team to lose. If we're going to win something, we'd do it on our own. It's naive to think that sacrificing one game means more to us than fighting for fourth.

Hey guys, it's been a while since I've posted - hope everyone is alright and enjoying the football. Went to the Norwich and Swansea games - we were pretty wasteful in terms of chances.

Currently en-route to anfield now for the match this evening. Hopefully it'll be a great match!
Shall try to post some photos later on.

On a sad note, I'm shocked to hear about the death of Gary Speed. A good pro whom I've always kept an eye out for. Really flabbergasted to note that it was reported to be suicide. RIP Gary, YNWA.

just heard Bellamy asked to be withdrawn from the squad facing Man City later. Guess he needs bit more time to settle on that news. Sad day for football this.

On another note,

QUOTE

Mario Balotelli has scored nine goals in his last 10 games.

City have failed to score in just one of their 20 games in all competitions this season - at Bayern in the Champions League two months ago.

In their last six league games City have scored a staggering 23 goals.

Have a bad feeling about this. Hope Enrique up his game. He was piss poor last game. Poor crossing, poor marking. Just poor!

Aye, he's really affected by the news. http://www.dailypost.co.uk/sport-news/wale...55578-29851340/?

Minutes silence for Gary prior to kickoff I suspect. YNWA.

Added on November 27, 2011, 11:49 pm3 defenders on the bench alongside Spearing, Carrol and Doni. Hmmm not many options if we go behind.

Yeah.I was not impressed by that at all sweat.gif

i think carroll must play in the second half.Suarez is struggling alone upfront without any support.
Seems like we are playing 4-5-1.Last time we played 4-5-1 we drew with man u at home.

ManC attack is very dangerous, they just some space and little bit. You can see how they scored with Man U. The defense and midfield should able to intercept and no loose ball to opponent. They are fast, a slight mistake they will take it kao kao.....

Too bad for us, Hart played superbly well. I gotta say, despite us drawing, it's not entirely a good news because we aren't making our chances count. We're kinda wasteful in front of the goal mouth to be honest.

Enrique with his same old mistake that almost cost us the game. Anyway, chelsea game next. No comment on this game except that Super Mario is indeed super mario! 2 cards in 5minutes. Superb!

Proud of the lads this morning. They pushed City all the way. So that's now 4 home games in a row the away keeper is the MOM? Ruddy, Vorm, De Gea and now Hart. The results may not be as desired but we are certainly playing well. Keep it up King Kenny!

With Tottenham and Chelsea winning, we really needed all 3 points. Didn't gain ground on anyone this weekend. It was end to end stuff and although Lucas is getting the plaudits, I must say that Reina was instrumental in getting a point as he came out three times to deny City goal scoring opportunities. Anger and Skrtel had good games as well. It's nice to see us playing a higher line, pressing City in their own half the way we did Chelsea. More of the same please.

Joe Hart godlike!!! Reina almost gave me heart attackS!!

Downing and Henderson were disappointing, especially Henderson. Downing's shot at the end was just stupid. No idea why Henderson wasn't subbed out. 4th home draw this season. Champions league is getting farther and farther away.

MOTM for Liverpool is definitely Lucas. Brilliant play. Overall MOTM, Hart. Damn

Henderson really doh.gif.

Didn't contribute much except giving away the ball and passing backwards.
Put Maxi at least he knows how to run off the ball.

sad day.
*
Actually I think Henderson did pretty well when he was in more central positions and Kuyt drifted out wide. I'm one of his biggest critics but I thought he showed some neat touches on the ball and linked up pretty well with Adam and Kuyt. One of his better games for us IMO.

Stats: Martin Atkinson had just sent off another player of Liverpool's opponent this season. This is the 3rd red card he shown to our opponent.

Notable red card: Jack Rodwell

Seeing the game tonight further proves that Liverpool is really in need of more critical finishers and more creative midfielders. 80% of our attempt of goals came from crosses. Were they expecting Kuyt and Suarez to head goals in? Same with Caroll. All the balls that came to him were high up.

Lucky goal. Nothing more, nothing less.

I was calling for carroll much earlier as suarez plays better with him.People are gonna say i am a whiner and negative person.

Truth is we fail to capitalise when others drop points.I am tired of the we played well excuse but had no luck.
If it happened once or twice we could say it was bad luck. But this happens every single time, then there's something
wrong with the players' mentality.

It's easy to say that Carroll should start games because he comes on at the end when we're pressing. The reason he has looked ineffectual when he starts is because he's struggling with open play, when he has to work to get into the box. Against City, we were already pressing deep when he came on and he had the luxury of playing close to goal. It's when we are playing further in our own half that he's struggled with mobility sparking comments that he doesn't look match fit.

Thought we played very well, should have got something more from the game, with or without the red card.

We were organized at the back and controlled the midfield well. Henderson's inclusion was a well-played move by Kenny. It meant a few things:
1) Off the ball, we restricted the amount of space in midfield. We managed to shut out the likes of Silva, Nasri and Toure, who all are brilliant in dragging players out of position and exploiting space. We made them look average.
2) Adam has a cushion to sit on and could spearhead our attacks without tiring easily in the second half.

Another shout out to Skrtel and Agger, who look solid today save for the couple of sloppy back passes. Again, I cross my fingers that Agger stay fit for another match.

The weakest link today? Dirk Kuyt.

If we are to play a counter attacking game, we need to take our chances. Not only his technical ability let him down, his decision making was often a second late and we could end up giving the ball away on the break. Mind you, I love Dirk Kuyt. I love his work rate, attitude and his leadership. But seeing how Carra (We certainly didn't miss him or Gerrard today) is being phased out of the first team, surely it's only a matter of time before we bolster the right side of the team? Personally, I would have went for Maxi today.

While everyone blasted Downing, why not look at Enrique? I for once thought that he is the signing of the summer! Best signing of value. His recent games told me that I might be wrong. He had now made few major mistakes in 2 big games. At times like this, I m actually hoping for glass leg Aurelio on field than him. Aurelio provide so much security and better cross down the left and more importantly, he excelled in big games. Enrique is the total opposite. He isn't up there for big games yet.

For instance, tonight, Downing was looking to link up with enrique. Downing already passed to Enrique and already began his run forward. Instead of linking up with Downing, Enrique went on dribbling alone, losing the possession. What's was on his mind? I m keen to see him rested for the next match and lets have Johnson down left, Kelly on right!

Some people are watching different games. No matter how much you reason, they will see what they see. Personally, I'm content tonight because for once in this season, we actually look ready for Champion's League.

People are expecting instant improvement, but they seem to forget just a year ago our first choice left-back was Konchesky while Poulsen were getting games ahead of Lucas. Also, they seem to forget easily that it is City we are playing. The best player in the Premier League, David Silva is on their side. And they have 3 strikers that would have made it to any team in the world. They weren't average, we made them look average, period.

I agree with you but the only things that kept me from blasting Enrique was his obvious superiority in speed and he is very good with using his body when blocking. Plus, he's nearly not as greedy as Downing and he knows how to keep his mouth shut.

As for Aurelio. I have no hope for him as he keeps getting injuries. And it's taking him so long to recover.

I think in matches like this, manager opted for work rate and teamwork more than anything else.Take a look at City. Mancini opted to start Barry ahead of Balotelli which the latter had scored 9 goals in the last 10 games. Barry offered more to the team in terms of work rate and teamwork while Balotelli, despite being technically better than Barry, his selfishness and temper makes him easy target for Mancini to drop to make space for barry. His red card tonight already indicated why.

Anyway, Maxi's workrate is highly questionable although one thing i like about him is his movement. He tends to appear at the right place to score.

My positives for the game:

1.Solid defensive pairing with agger and skrtel.Thank god for agger as he stopped aguero many times.
2.Reina did a fantastic job as a sweeper though it was really scary.
3.Lucas.This should be on top actually.Made brilliant passes and interceptions.I have never seen silva this quiet in any game. This will probably be silva's worst game.
4.Carroll.Fantastic header at the end and he seems to take the burden off suarez as the target man.

Negatives:

1.Downing wasting two great chances.Lack of composure in front of goal.
2.Enrique wasteful with the ball many times.
3.Kenny's decision to sub carroll so late.He should have been on for henderson or kuyt around 65-70minutes.

henderson though useless when attacking is rather good on helping to control the midfield. for us to attack we need to get hold of the midfield especially with man city strong midfield. with him and lucas around, adam is calmer and have a bit more time on dictating the play.

on downing though, he's wasted a couple of clear chances and should scored. still his service is better in this game compared from the previous. he could do better. i always like him when he at villa.

enrique kinda off a bit today but not a big deal. it tend to happen sometimes. he still a solid defender. not worried at all.

agger + skrtel was solid.. silent up aguero.

looking at man city line up itself will scared the shit out of other team. not us.. we bring the game to them and almost win it. just unlucky that joe hart decide to be so immense today.

what i dont understand is that my friends can tell me that Pepe Reina was crap.. he was caught out of position and out of the penalty box so many times..

IMHO he saved us so many times.. My MotM followed very closely by Lucas.. I salute the way Pepe reads the play and is always aware when a misplaced back pass is about to happen.. he was top class today.. i seriously think my friends were watching a different match..

Neither is henderson.I honestly say i am more confident when we play away than at home.Home support is terrible.I could hear city fans singing blue moon and outsang the local fans. Our away support is way better.
*
Hmm I swore I heard "Fields of Anfield Road" sung numerous times followed by chants of "We Love You Liverpool". City's away support was vocal but that doesn't mean we weren't. Here are accounts from fans who were at the game http://www.redandwhitekop.com/forum/index.php?topic=283406.0. I heard the same thing they saw which is why I'm a little confused by your observation. I know you're a little pessimistic mate but I really don't see where this is coming from. You'll note from their accounts that the support became louder after we conceded which is the way it should be.

Interesting how we all watched the same game but have different opinions isn't it? Makes for better discussion. My only criticism of Dirk Kuyt this morning was his inability to distribute the ball accurately. His passing was poor but as expected, his work ethic was phenomenal. City are a potent force going forward and it was reassuring to note that we had our marathon man available to help track back and help neutralize the threat of Samir Nasri and David Silva as they later swapped wings. He wasn't afraid to take on defenders and got forward to provide support whenever we sieged the opposition goal.

Dagger was simply immense at the back. He is deceptively quick and with him in the side, we had the luxury to be able to play a high defensive line against quick nippy players like Aguero, Silva and Nasri. Skrtel also looks a different player when playing alongside him. Hard as it is for me to accept, Carra is surely now moved down a rung in the pecking order as age has robbed him of speed which he never had in abundance anyway. At least he's graciously admitted that his days as an automatic starter are behind him and he has to work hard to keep his place in the side. Not one to complain and whine our Carra.

Lucas and Adam were ace. Makes you wonder where Captain Fantastic will slot in when he's back from injury. Yes, we've dropped points but if no one can see how well we've been playing compared to last season I give up trying to point out the positives to you. We are a relatively new side and it's encouraging that we are getting better as the season progresses. Adam was out of sorts early this season but has been amazing the last two games. Despite a shaky start to the season, our defense is now solid. Lucas is now looking like a world class defensive midfielder. Suarez was a little out of sorts last night spending more time moaning and playing but it was nice to see everyone else pick up the slack but having opportunities of their own. In the end, my job isn't to please anyone so I won't try. I just think that credit must be give when it's due even if there is still room for improvement. What was it Shanks said again? "If you can't support us when we lose or draw, don't support us when we win"? The fans aren't buzzing again and singing at the top of their lungs each game for nothing.

Added on November 28, 2011, 7:54 amOn the topic of bringing Carroll on earlier, do consider that while we were pressing, City had opportunities on the break, most notably when Silva took an age to round Reina. As much as we were looking to score, we had to keep one eye on the City attack. I don't know about you but it was always at the back of my mind that we could concede. I believe it's why we didn't commit too early because I can't see either Suarez or Carroll tracking back to defend if Glennie lost possession while on one of his forays in the opposition half. Only after Balotelli got sent off did King Kenny feel it was safe to make the change. Hindsight is 20-20 and there will always be "what ifs" but I felt that it was right for him to be cautious in this case.

Positive side, the team play very well against strong team like City. They could won yesterday game. Keep it up. There is a room to improve. smile.gif

Add on:
I wonder why some fans keep bashing on Henderson. He did show his improvement from last few match ago. And he show his promising talent when he become CM. I really hope he can learn from Steven Gerrard and get into real show very soon !

If we look at Lucas past few season and compare it to now. Lucas is world class now. thumbup.gif (Last time, when I saw Lucas in team, I sure no mood haha. laugh.gif )

Why can't Henderson since he do show promising talent there? If I rate Henderson with Downing. Henderson > Downing. Give Henderson time. This rules applicable to our daily life too. smile.gif

Thus far we are unbeaten against Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal in the league. We have demonstrated there isn't a gap in quality between us and the contenders. My major concern is those dropped points against sides that are not on par with quality. We must win our next five games are against Fulham, QPR, Aston Villa, Wigan Athletic and Blackburn Rovers, which i presume a tough task. I've a concern as i believe many would agree with me , the Uruguayan is being asked to do too much in each game?? I strongly believe he needs assistance, and since Carroll isn't of any use from a goal scoring perspective, play him to divert attention away from Suárez?

I'm absolutely delighted with Lucas, he has become an integral member to our midfield with his all-action running, clean tackles and inch perfect passes. I would say, he did a wholehearted display last night. Im happy with the result , we came off better than City , it's a positive note for the upcoming games. I'm sure many United fans would not prefer the result.

I thought Lucas and C.Adam were combining better and better with each game. Lucas made Y.Toure look like an amateur the whole evening. There was one instance when Toure was about to initiate a quick counter, Lucas just gracefully robbed the former Barca midfielder without even falling the player. Lucas is not the biggest player on the team but it's amazing how he can 'guard' the midfield so intelligently..

there are lots of positives. arguably we could have either be in the receiving hiding & we instead could have won it.

KD is right, there is no place for complacency, who isn't willing to give the support (on bench or fringe) is shipped out. (I guess the prime reason we have 'weren't' hesitant in selling T for good money)

come December, where the top placed teams may be stretch with tight fixtures (domestic games, cup games, continent), we should take advantage to nick higher up the standings ladder.

statistically (for now) we are getting things right. (much ahead of during Houlliers or rafa's 1st season, or at least where were weren't pinned for 85mins at the back & to launch counter attacks just to nick a goal), even if technically its not KD 1st season and where the previous gaffers were hampered with limited resources.

It's just scoring goals to win games. everything else is slowly into the right gear. I know its out objective 1st is to claim one of the CL spot. Score more, win a lot more games, we will surprise our critics. I'm positive we on the right track. (damn i sound so like 'somebody' here) wink.gif

I knew that Gary Speed had passed away and so did Brad's son but I didn't know that KD didn't field Bellars because of that. I was really expecting Bellars to play.

Anyways Duke, wanna ask for your take on Pepe Reina in this morning's game. I thought he was right on form but many of my friends thought otherwise. Would be awesome to have your views on Pepe Reina.

I don't know which game your friends were watching because I felt Reina had a really good game. The thing is most people only rate keepers when they make point blank saves like Hart did in the third minute if extra time. They don't appreciate the fact that someone like Reina diffuses situations much earlier on by rushing off his line. We've heard the term sweeper keeper though not nearly as often as not many keepers can distribute the ball as well as Reina and are as comfortable on the ball. What was it? Some 3 seasons back that he played in midfield in a friendly against Mainz? He may not be as flamboyant (and some may also say reckless) as Rene "El Loco" Higuita but he has shown he doesn't panic in possession. Another thing he does well is command his box as he did yesterday. How many time has he fumbled a ball. His handling is admirable. His presence is one reason we could play such a high defensive line against Chelsea and Man City yesterday. Even if the ball is played behind Agger and Skrtel, we are assured that Pepe will come racing off his line to clear the danger. He may have been caught out once this morning but out of how many times? That all being said, he is a good shot stopper as well and his save last week against Chelsea proves that.

Can't remember which pundit it was yesterday. When asked which team had the better keeper, he mentioned Pepe and I agree.

That isn't a certainty. Like I said earlier, Andy was effective because City were already hanging on for dear life by the time he came on. He only needed to park himself in the opposition box. It's different when teams are going toe to toe and you have to work to push forward, something he's been struggling with. It's why people are questioning his fitness level and commenting on how sluggish he looks. I don't think King Kenny was wrong to start with one up front given City's attacking prowess. Do note that they had scored 3 or more goals in 6 consecutive games leading up to our clash at Anfield. They also have the best goal difference in the league unrivalled since Preston in the 1800's! That is a frightening statistic and it was right for us not to totally throw caution into the wind. It was important to have Kuyt help against Nasri or Silva since Johnson is known to be suspect defensively. King Kenny got it right tactically as far as I'm concerned.

There is also talk over the exclusion of Maxi and I feel it was a tactical decision and not one based on form. With only Suarez leading the line, it seemed logical to have at least one wide player in the side to stretch the defense, avoiding congestion in the middle, giving Suarez more room to run at the back two. Players aren't always excluded because of a lack of form. Tactics matter. Why else would someone with red hot scoring form like Balotelli be resigned to the bench? He doesn't do much defending and Mancini opted for a more cautious approach by fielding Nasri.

That was exactly my words to them. "Which game were you guys watching?" I think many seem to be wondering why Pepe is suddenly so high up the field and suddenly clearing the ball, but like you said Duke, if he hadn't don't so the Citeh strikers would be heading for goal. In fact, the mistake was more on Jose Enrique providing Pepe with bad back passes. He has done it every odd game but it hasn't cost us much. This time it nearly did cost us the game. Maybe he should take a look at his back passes. But the bottomline is, Pepe did an awesome job yesterday. The way he cleared the back pass. The way he "swept" the City strikers. The way he made himself a hindrance to Silva (which had Silva twisting and turning. Also credits to the defenders who took no time in coming back and guarding the goal. 3 of them if I'm not mistaken?). Honestly, I always feel safe when Pepe is playing and with the Dagger in front of him.

I did watch some highlights of the game which he played in midfield. Hell he looked more composed then Lucas at that time. I repeat at that time laugh.gif I think he took a screamer of a shot as well that went wayward.

Besides that, I totally agree with your statement on his distributions. The best example of his distribution was the game against Man Utd when he provided us with two assist. I doubt many goal keepers can do that. Saying that, I guess that's what you get for a Barca Academy Keeper. A real ball playing, sweeper keeper. I hope he stays with us until we challenge for top trophies again and many many more years after that. Thanks for your view Duke.

Another thing to note is that Liverpool old boys, Danny Murphy and John Arne Riise linked up to force Vermaelem into an own goal against Fulham. Danny Simpson made a goal line clearance to prevent defeat against his former teammates.

Riena can be a good sweeper. He is like semi sweeper aka goalkeeper. biggrin.gif . Well now a days, a lot of through ball passes, sometimes u might just caught off guard. So a last man as a sweeper to keep the ball away other than keeper. If defender stands too behind it will fail to make the offside trap.
Man to man or zonal marking.....
Bellamy will be bit sadden bcoz of Speed. I hope he can repay back his mentor with a good display in the team. We too respect his wish and also respect the late Garry Speed. Hope he can fell the warm and emotional support from us. Of course we could just be strict professional, but we are just more than professional, we are a big family. Is no more like boss directed employee to work. That's why u see some club work like business unit than a team unit. U don't listen, u wil l never play for us again. hahah........... as a boss we too need to listen what the players needs and difficulities. Most of the time they need us support. They are human as well. So far I think KD did a very good PR with the players.
We trust u so we buy u over to play for us, so I hope u can give us ur trust and play well. If u have any problem we will always open to talk, we too share the same objective is to win matches. So just ignore who the boss here, everyone got their own responsible to do. YNWA, we always be with u and and support you.

Last night game was superb for Reds, we control CT from start to finished, granted they played in CL, but i thot we gave them a deep run for their money...I am not satisfied becos we dint take 3 points, but really satisfied we control the match against a team with a budget that is almost triple in investment value compare to Reds..

My take on not playing ACarrol, initially i tot he is playing, but realize that if we field 2 forwards, our midfield will be compromise..when mancini take off nasri, i tot it was a wrong decision, becos they hardly hold their midfield together last night, but taking off nasri for ballot, make it even worse....

For those who lambast henderson - i tot he inject our midfield with energy and covering many grounds - he is also winning headers in the middle of the park, and also carries a bit of threat going forward, his passes are not bad... and downing, apart from not provding assist or scoring, i tot we gave CT plenty of headache on the left wing, if we play maxi, we may not be able to attack the corner, becos he dont have the pace to do that...

Finally, really salute KK, his prediction before the game was that Joe Hart will be very busy, and indeed that prediction is spot on! I dont think Joe hart's been this busy except for the game against fulham (correct me if i m wrong). KK somehow already know what his men will do/or capable against CT..

Ohh and my take on Reina, those who think he is shitty, can go fly kite too...this keeper is steady - handling is good and i somehow feel that he is a younger version of shay given and also better off his line - thanks to his reading of the game..dunno if any1 agree with me...

this case is similar to what happened to lucas a few seasons back when fan questioning the manager to play lucas.

put it this way, Henderson in much better than Ngog and Downing is also better than Ryan Bebel.

Lets hope they can improve as time passes like Lucas is much better now then when Rafa first bought/used him.

this is really a good comparing. Sometime we can't too demanding, as the team got improvement will do. It takes some times to get to top.
Wonder why Reina suddenly many question about him. Just bcoz he did some sweeper job, doesn't he is off position or not perform well. The goal Man C scored should blamed the defense failed to pressure on Kompany. If not wrong is Johnson who had fell down after failed to challenge the ball.
We should plan and think how to get full points from those lower team. This should be our main concern for the season, after good performance against top team. Last season we did had some good game with high goal scoring. My target is for the team until January, from January we should able to pick up. Just like last season.

Reina did well in sweeping away the ball but it comes with risk. Certainly not a very good thing that he try that too much week in and week out. We were lucky last night that our defenders were at the goal line for clearance. So, although it's good that Reina helped in sweeper role, it's not advisable to do it too frequently. he will be caught out sooner or later

no doubt about it. Lucas was the MOTM. he was the most outstanding player with adam second to him.

Hey guys - the game was great yesteryday!

Atmosphere was electrifying in the stadium, absolutely brilliant.
We played well, and probably deserved a little more , nonetheless it was a great game.
Hopefully ill be able to post some photographs later today, if my mediocre internet dongle allows it tongue.gif

i think the reason maxi left out is because he lacks pace like henderson and downing. against very pacy team like city, pace is very needed. and seriously, joe hart is exceptionally good. the 1st half shot by adam which he somehow managed to keep it out using his feet... I think only 1 or 2 keepers in EPL can do that. I have just shouted goal! at that time but only to see hart somehow managed to keep the ball out. and the full stretch one handed save on carrol's header.... fuuh..... anyway yesterday's game was very, very entertaining for neutrals

Added on November 28, 2011, 9:57 pmthe other thing that was 'heart-warming' to see that when I think 3 liv players line up on the goal line when reina went out (when silva was attacking I think).. that shows they give 110% to this match.. if only they play like this against other teams, top 4 would surely be in hand.

and man city although when they're only playing with 10 people, there are still dangerous. remember few games ago they beat a team 3-1 when they're playing with only 10 people? and I think I wouldn't sound exaggerating if I say even man city's bench only can easily challenge for the top 4 this season - that shows how much depth they have, and how mancini has done very well to gel them all

some people just like to put blame on downing and henderson.
this case is similar to what happened to lucas a few seasons back when fan questioning the manager to play lucas.
Just have patient with KD. he knows better
*
Hmmm.If people didn't criticise lucas back then,he would have been in the illusion that he was doing a decent job.Only when people criticised him, he vowed to fight on and prove them wrong.Players are always ready to accept flattery so they should accept criticism as well.Criticism is justified for players like downing and henderson because they get playing time and are not doing enough. However, criticism on carroll is over the top when he gets almost no playing time let alone starting week in and out.

This. They showed commitment and responsibility over the goal mouth. Now, let's just hope the squad will carry the current form into upcoming games..

what i dont understand is that my friends can tell me that Pepe Reina was crap.. he was caught out of position and out of the penalty box so many times..

IMHO he saved us so many times.. My MotM followed very closely by Lucas.. I salute the way Pepe reads the play and is always aware when a misplaced back pass is about to happen.. he was top class today.. i seriously think my friends were watching a different match..

I dont think its reading the play.
Its more to eccentricity, decision making and most of all, his level of concentration.

With Balo, theres physical presence..
The only way ManC could play is everything except crossing high balls, and what could you possibly get when you have only S. Aguero, plus with the height of Agger and Skrtel?
Either Balo or Dzeko starts the game, it might be a diff talk. icon_rolleyes.gif

and i thought henderson played well last night.

funny you based lucas as example. he is the classic example of harsh criticism from fans. i remember almost all fans were calling for his head. no matter what he did. majority of young players might crumble and lost their confidence entirely. criticism is good but over done it also got bad effect. kinda like some sort of double edge sword. so when he actually played well is not hard to actually praise the lad to build up more confidence. now i feel that henderson is in the same situation like lucas back then. he's about the same age as lucas too when he was everyone's scapegoat. i wish henderson can follow lucas foot steps. ignore all the shits people said about him and fight to prove them wrong.

and i might add, we also need to thank rafa on lucas progress. i think he's the only one who have complete faith in lucas. he ignored everyone and keep playing him. if rafa is not stubborn and weak, lucas would be playing with other team now. surely, this too can be applied with kenny+henderson/downing.. if he thinks they should play then they should play. the king knows his shits. he won everything including the PL. all we need to do is keep supporting the team.

I think the best praise i can give lucas is he is the younger version of claude makelele. He was never gonna be the mascherano type who goes sliding in.If lucas performs like yesterday on a consistent basis then he is on way to makelele's level.

Henderson is beginning to show some really good touches as well. Against Chelsea, he blew past 2 defenders before putting a cross in. Against City, he showed good feet to keep the ball away from two defenders and on another occasion, nutmegged a defender. He's beginning to play with confidence and I hope that the shite version of him I've seen early in the season is no more.

Man I was one of Lucas' biggest critics but he's pulled up his socks and worked to adapt to his 'new' role. Reminds me of a certain Igor Biscan who Houllier thought made a better central defender than attacking midfielder. He put his head down, kept his mouth shut and played through the criticism and only in one of his last games for us against Bayer Leverkusen in Europe did he show glimpses of brilliance in midfield in the absence of Gerrard and Alonso.

Yeap Reina, he tried to slow down the city player, if he doesn't come out maybe the opponent will able to bring near the goal mouth and score. With sudden coming out, it makes the opponent surprise and slow down. Of course our players are quick enough to cover the goal mouth.
I think he did it many times during practice, it is like instinct what to do when the situation happened. Riena too maybe he won many tackles during practice, so he is confident enough to come out.

doubt coates and bellamy gonna start the match . Bellamy still need time to recover and coates is too slow to handle sturidge if he plays. But I think will see maybe sterling and few youngsters start in the match since King Kenny was spotted watching the reserves team beat sunderland reserves 5-1 .

Bellamy traveled with the squad to london. So, I think he will probably play. I dont think Agger gonna play especially the fact that he is injury prone. He will be resting happily for next league match. Probably coates/wilson/skrtel will play. I will pick Coates over the other two. tongue.gif

Henderson showed why he should play in the central midfield instead of playing out wide, he was the architect of the first goal where he made a defense splitting pass to release bellamy from the offside trap.

Lucas was impressive and combined with spearing manage to shut down chelsea lampard and ramirez, hopefully lucas injury is a mere knock and not too serious.

Bellamy was the provider for the two goals and motm for me. Maxi scored again, Carroll showed his effort and manage to robbed chelsea possession several time but sadly wasnt rewarded with a goal.

Coates is adapting and together with carrager kept torres from scoring. Kelly made more daring run into opponents half and enrique is being just himself as usual.
reina went out of the line again to save the ball from anelka.

overall good game haha

managed wake up just after half time. fantastic game. everyone was good. henderson pass to bellamy for 1st goal was sublime. a fine save from reina. great atmosphere too. the bridge drowned in the travelling kop voices as if we were playing in anfield.

rentboys got no chance at all even after mata and anelka comes in. and only notice this when reading on net, it appears that the home fans chanting "you are getting sacked in the morning" to AVB. class.

did kopites do that to uncle roy? cant remember.. seems like it was ages ago doesn't it?

Although Caroll didn't score, he put in an impressive performance this morning. Soccernet rated our big forward better than the other over-priced striker.

Next game will be a tricky one away to Fulham who themselves are in good form. Hopefully Lucas injury is not too serious..

Another observation was how well Henderson performed playing in the centre rather than on the wing. The pass to Bellamy leading to the 1st goal was very Gerrard-like.. Maybe he does have hidden potential..

It's a stellar performance from Bellamy, Henderson, Lucas & Reina. Wonder if Kenny gonna stick with the winning team lineup..

Tribute to Lucas

His numbers speak for themselves: 69 completed passes on 75 attempts for a 92% success rate, 13 out of 16 challenges won on the ground, four out of four headers won, seven successful tackles on seven attempts, and seven interceptions.

Gael Clichy had 7 interceptions; Joleon Lescott had five successful tackles; Gareth Barry completed 69 passes but misplaced three more of his attempts for an 88% passing rate; and Yaya Toure managed the unlikely feat of also completing 69 passes on 75 attempts—though his three successful challenges to go along with a single header and tackle won pales in comparison to Lucas’ numbers. It’s the oft-maligned Barry, in fact, with three successful tackles, eight challenges out of 12 won, four interceptions, and two headers who had arguably the second strongest showing amongst the ten players who started the game in midfield for the two sides on Sunday.

In any case, the fairly ridiculous numbers that Lucas tallied across the board speak to his dominance on the day—quite possibly the best performance he’s yet had in a Liverpool shirt after previously setting the bar last year away at Chelsea.

He made David Silva, the Premier League’s player of the season to date, anonymous. He outmuscled Yaya Toure. So invisible was Samir Nasri that City at times looked as though they’d gone down to ten men long before Mario Balotelli got himself sent off through a pair of daft challenges. He even, almost, set up Luis Suarez for what would have been the winning goal through slick passing and a driving run, the striker’s eventual shot being parried by the day’s other top performer, Joe Hart.

At this point, really, it feels as though there’s little left to say when it comes to Lucas Leiva. Just as the numbers speak for themselves, the quality of a performance like yesterday’s seems entirely self-evident; equally obvious. As though it should be able to speak for itself, leaving any who remains unconvinced pitiable and beyond salvation. Beyond hope. Because if seeing him step up against Manchester City and boss their £300M midfield isn’t enough to convince the scant few steadfast doubters, then there really is nothing that will. Because at this point, it’s fairly clear that those scant few steadfast doubters are more worthy of ridicule, derision, and mockery than honest engagement.

If there was any doubt remaining, it now seems fairly clear that Liverpool has the best holding midfielder in England, with the only remaining questions being quite where he stands next to the world’s best and just how good he might become over the next few years

I was ready to doze off any minutes but we put up such a good display that my adrenalin kicked in and kept me awake for the entire match! And what a fantastic match.

We're in such a good form at the moment, even with a nearly different back four. We worked really hard and a win was no more than we deserved.

Reina - Did a brilliant save and was again a tremendous presence in front of the goal.
Kelly - He had a shaky start but grew in confidence and rewarded a goal. Good to know that we have 2 reliable RBs.
Carra - Back with a vengence. Tremendous presence at the back and kept the defensive line organized.
Coates - Very assuring display despite the close call challenge on Luis. Strong, good interceptions and liked to play short passes. Very promising prospect.
Enrique - Did not put in as much crosses as i liked but he was defensively solid and supported Bellamy well.
Lucas - His injury really potong stim for me and kinda spoiled the celebration mood. He was immense yet again, the midfield was his domain and he just kept us going. Hope nothing too serious, we need him more than anyone else at the moment.
Spearing - Had a good engine and did his job well. I'm confident he can come in to replace Lucas and do the job.
Maxi - Sell him.
Bellamy - Was a menace on the pitch - kept going and going - hounding the players in blue whenever they had the ball like some deranged pitbull. It was a courageous and inspiring display to say the least.
Hendo - Still needs to grow as a player but he is getting better each time i have watched him play. He put up a decent display, got caught up few times but he will learn. He has a very good attitude and this alone will go a long way to improve him as a player.
Carroll - At the moment, he's just very raw. Fumbles needlessly like a horse on ice but he gets up and gets on with it. He seems to get stronger and angrier as the match progress and for a moment i thought he was becoming a menace to both Chelsea and us haha. He needs to work on his composure and possibly his footings as well. But he's still young and these things usually improve with age so i suppose there is still hope for him yet.

PS: No rushmode, i dont think the kop had ever sung the sack song to roy. But i do recall opposing fans singing it for him. It's a normal banter tho.

Haven't they learn? You can't beat a team by just buying their player. I will shut up if they are willing to pay another 50mil for Maxi though..

"Vast improvement"? Err lower your expectations mate because I feel we have been playing pretty well of late. The last time I saw us playing fluid, positive football was the tail end of the season we finished 2nd. I don't think we can ask for much more from the lads.

Tony Fernandez has nothing to do with Palace although a Malaysian businessman by the name of Jerry Lim if I recall once bought a stake in the club some years back.

I missed the 2nd half coz I had to wake up early so need to get enough sleep. Anyway I found this link. Please scroll down at the commentary to get the link

Just want to share my thought on one incident. Anybody recall the tackle made by Lukaku on Henderson. I was so furious coz it was dangerous and I think warrant a straight red card. Henderson was lucky coz to me it could have easily broke the ankle. If you missed it go and watch it again and you will undersdtand what I mean.

Downloading the full match now. Gonna watch the 2nd half.

Made up for the lad, shows that persistence and patience pay off big. I didn't watch the match last night, but it was amazing how he bossed Yaya Toure last Sunday. At one point Yaya made a run with the ball and Lucas used his physical strength to hold him and won the ball cleanly. Hopefully his injury isn't too bad.

I know whose's name I'm going to get for next season's home jersey. thumbup.gif

Added on November 30, 2011, 9:15 pmOne interesting point on the Lucas' article was this:
QUOTE
“Some day, people will realise how good Lucas is,” forecasted Rafa Benitez.

I seemingly remember Rafa said that and dug out some old articles. True enough:

QUOTE
He said: 'People just don't know how good Lucas is. He is a fantastic player, he was captain of his club side at 19 and has already won full caps with Brazil.
'Not just any country, but Brazil. He has captained their Under-21s and their Olympic team.
'He has a very good mentality. When you talk of Brazilian players you know they are skilful with ability. But Lucas is a worker and has a very good approach.
'He can tackle, he can pass the ball and he can win in the air. He is still a very young player learning to live in a different country.

'It is not easy for him to get into the team, considering the quality of the opposition he has to face in that department at Anfield.
'He is competing against Javier Mascherano, the captain of Argentina and against one of the best players in the world, Steven Gerrard, who has also captained his country.
'And then there is Xabi Alonso, who is now a European champion for club and country.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...l#ixzz1fC4tx5YP

"I can't speak for every single fan, but every member of staff knows he is a very good player and his teammates know he is a good player.
http://www.sixcrazyminutes.com/forums/inde...p?topic=31141.0

What's appalling though was some of the comments made by fans on those pages:
QUOTE
"For ****'s sake Benitez, this is a monumental blind spot.
The only upside is that the useless **** is suspended.  I wonder if it's possible to request the suspension be increased?"

"defend all your flop signings rafa. you will soon get a whole team consisting of flops."

"Whilst we wont get our full 8m back I think 5m is reasonable and we should be able to get a very decent option as a back up midfielder in the 6-8m range."

Now before this turning into a "told you so" post, it's always easier when you have the benefit of hindsight. However, isn't it deja vu when you realize some of us here were already calling Carroll and Herderson a flop a few weeks ago? We ought to learn our lesson.

Dont think Torres deserved that. Well, he turned his back on the club but certainly he is better than a certain spitting King called Diouf? I doubt Diouf get such treatment , so what makes Torres ,who gave his all when he was with us, deserved all these?

I always gave Lucas the benefit of doubt.
A young boy from south America coming to the EPL and then being told he was going to be transformed from CAM to DM?
You gotta give him some leeway and some of the "fans" slating him really isn't the Liverpool way.

We now have the same situation with big Andy. Big price tag won't help, fans slating him won't help.

Give the lad a break he's only 22 and still the unfinished article. He will come good for us.

Hendo from the beginning I knew he had class, just need some consistency and also some time playing in the middle of the park! Still so young too!
