what i dont understand is that my friends can tell me that Pepe Reina was crap.. he was caught out of position and out of the penalty box so many times..

IMHO he saved us so many times.. My MotM followed very closely by Lucas.. I salute the way Pepe reads the play and is always aware when a misplaced back pass is about to happen.. he was top class today.. i seriously think my friends were watching a different match..

The news was all over the place a couple of hrs before kickoff and it's one of two reasons why there was a minutes silence just prior to the start of the game, the other being the death of Brad Jones' son, Luca. Read someone mention Phil Jones earlier, huh?
*
I knew that Gary Speed had passed away and so did Brad's son but I didn't know that KD didn't field Bellars because of that. I was really expecting Bellars to play.

Anyways Duke, wanna ask for your take on Pepe Reina in this morning's game. I thought he was right on form but many of my friends thought otherwise. Would be awesome to have your views on Pepe Reina.

I don't know which game your friends were watching because I felt Reina had a really good game. The thing is most people only rate keepers when they make point blank saves like Hart did in the third minute if extra time. They don't appreciate the fact that someone like Reina diffuses situations much earlier on by rushing off his line. We've heard the term sweeper keeper though not nearly as often as not many keepers can distribute the ball as well as Reina and are as comfortable on the ball. What was it? Some 3 seasons back that he played in midfield in a friendly against Mainz? He may not be as flamboyant (and some may also say reckless) as Rene "El Loco" Higuita but he has shown he doesn't panic in possession. Another thing he does well is command his box as he did yesterday. How many time has he fumbled a ball. His handling is admirable. His presence is one reason we could play such a high defensive line against Chelsea and Man City yesterday. Even if the ball is played behind Agger and Skrtel, we are assured that Pepe will come racing off his line to clear the danger. He may have been caught out once this morning but out of how many times? That all being said, he is a good shot stopper as well and his save last week against Chelsea proves that.

Can't remember which pundit it was yesterday. When asked which team had the better keeper, he mentioned Pepe and I agree.
That was exactly my words to them. "Which game were you guys watching?" I think many seem to be wondering why Pepe is suddenly so high up the field and suddenly clearing the ball, but like you said Duke, if he hadn't don't so the Citeh strikers would be heading for goal. In fact, the mistake was more on Jose Enrique providing Pepe with bad back passes. He has done it every odd game but it hasn't cost us much. This time it nearly did cost us the game. Maybe he should take a look at his back passes. But the bottomline is, Pepe did an awesome job yesterday. The way he cleared the back pass. The way he "swept" the City strikers. The way he made himself a hindrance to Silva (which had Silva twisting and turning. Also credits to the defenders who took no time in coming back and guarding the goal. 3 of them if I'm not mistaken?). Honestly, I always feel safe when Pepe is playing and with the Dagger in front of him.

I did watch some highlights of the game which he played in midfield. Hell he looked more composed then Lucas at that time. I repeat at that time laugh.gif I think he took a screamer of a shot as well that went wayward.

Besides that, I totally agree with your statement on his distributions. The best example of his distribution was the game against Man Utd when he provided us with two assist. I doubt many goal keepers can do that. Saying that, I guess that's what you get for a Barca Academy Keeper. A real ball playing, sweeper keeper. I hope he stays with us until we challenge for top trophies again and many many more years after that. Thanks for your view Duke.

Man, with all the time on the injury list, I have almost forgotten about Aurelio. I think we are still ok and can still win games (though i wouldn't say no to a new midfielder in Jan.

Besides, Spearing can provide enough cover if (when) Aurelio gets injured. Lets hope we do well without our midfield general.

Get well soon Lucas

Nono... It was Reina who made all the saves...and Carrol was the one scoring 3 to get us back to 3-3 in Istanbul... you all dunno kah?

couldn't have put it better myself sols notworthy.gif

Anyways, I hope Suarez doesn't get too many matches taken away from him because of the bans. Hope KD has a word with him about keeping his temper in check. Come January, we should only go for 1 player.

1 player to beat the opposing team goalkeeper,
1 player to shoot and not hit the crossbar,
1 player to take the ball to the back of the net,
1 player to score..

we should go and hope for Lady Luck to come! brows.gif Believe me, if she is around, we will be firing in all cylinders.

PS:for certain people who supported the club long ago but still not really sure the correct spelling for YNWA, here you go - YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE

hahahah this is pure class...

now looks like lucas on top of gerrard?

hail lucas.... one year back lucas is &^%(*&^!!

I believe he didn't say that Lucas is much better than Gerrard.

Merely saying that Gerrard isn't so suited for the holding role. I believe that is true because of his age, however we could be wrong as Gerrard has massive experience and can maybe read the game better. We wouldn't know until it is tried.

Back to the main point, Gerrard is a typical free-role "#8" while Lucas is a holding "Dunga" midfielder type.
Both are different type of player and shouldn't be compared. Both are pure class for me.

Anyone had a shocking laugh when it was a fast break only to see that Agger was at the other end trying to score a header? biggrin.gif

I think the statement from Liverpool FC is clear enough. They wouldn't make any statement that would come and bite their a$$ later on. Hence, they wouldn't put anything stupid if its not through.

I read the statement over and over for 4 times and still found it astonishing. Now I would like to see FA publicly announce the reason behind the 8 match ban. Even better, I know there won't be any issue when Evra himself admitted to racially abusing Suarez, and the Terry-Ferdinand case will close in a week or two.

English FA, you just shot your own foot. You showed what awesome judgements you can make. I applaud you, son. I applaud you.

To utter a racist word, one doesn't need to be a racist. I believed it's in the heat of argument. I do not know whether Suarez did say the words but if he did, then he should be punish. Whether he is a racist or not, that's a different matter altogether.
*
"We would also like to know when the FA intend to charge Patrice Evra with making abusive remarks to an opponent after he admitted himself in his evidence to insulting Luis Suarez in Spanish in the most objectionable of terms. Luis, to his credit, actually told the FA he had not heard the insult."

rclxms.gif but I guess it's Man Utd, so anything is acceptable.

me too  doh.gif

i think carroll can shine when the absent of suarez coz the other players will keep passing to him when the ball near box... before most of the ball will give to suarez when it come to upfront...

just my theory  rolleyes.gif

I think we shouldn't rely on one player as the pivotal point of our attack. But no doubt if Carroll plays without Suarez he will get more passes compared when Suarez plays. Saying that, the team shouldn't (for pete's sake no) keep pumping the ball up to Carroll.

However I am sure everyone is hoping that Carroll can step up. Well he should. He has got one of the best teams behind him.

Carroll, if you can here me, the cake is within your reach. Get up from your sofa and chase it. Please, please, please. laugh.gif
