I don't know which game your friends were watching because I felt Reina had a really good game. The thing is most people only rate keepers when they make point blank saves like Hart did in the third minute if extra time. They don't appreciate the fact that someone like Reina diffuses situations much earlier on by rushing off his line. We've heard the term sweeper keeper though not nearly as often as not many keepers can distribute the ball as well as Reina and are as comfortable on the ball. What was it? Some 3 seasons back that he played in midfield in a friendly against Mainz? He may not be as flamboyant (and some may also say reckless) as Rene "El Loco" Higuita but he has shown he doesn't panic in possession. Another thing he does well is command his box as he did yesterday. How many time has he fumbled a ball. His handling is admirable. His presence is one reason we could play such a high defensive line against Chelsea and Man City yesterday. Even if the ball is played behind Agger and Skrtel, we are assured that Pepe will come racing off his line to clear the danger. He may have been caught out once this morning but out of how many times? That all being said, he is a good shot stopper as well and his save last week against Chelsea proves that.
Can't remember which pundit it was yesterday. When asked which team had the better keeper, he mentioned Pepe and I agree.
That was exactly my words to them. "Which game were you guys watching?" I think many seem to be wondering why Pepe is suddenly so high up the field and suddenly clearing the ball, but like you said Duke, if he hadn't don't so the Citeh strikers would be heading for goal. In fact, the mistake was more on Jose Enrique providing Pepe with bad back passes. He has done it every odd game but it hasn't cost us much. This time it nearly did cost us the game. Maybe he should take a look at his back passes. But the bottomline is, Pepe did an awesome job yesterday. The way he cleared the back pass. The way he "swept" the City strikers. The way he made himself a hindrance to Silva (which had Silva twisting and turning. Also credits to the defenders who took no time in coming back and guarding the goal. 3 of them if I'm not mistaken?). Honestly, I always feel safe when Pepe is playing and with the Dagger in front of him.
I did watch some highlights of the game which he played in midfield. Hell he looked more composed then Lucas at that time. I repeat at that time

I think he took a screamer of a shot as well that went wayward.
Besides that, I totally agree with your statement on his distributions. The best example of his distribution was the game against Man Utd when he provided us with two assist. I doubt many goal keepers can do that. Saying that, I guess that's what you get for a Barca Academy Keeper. A real ball playing, sweeper keeper. I hope he stays with us until we challenge for top trophies again and many many more years after that. Thanks for your view Duke.
