the young ah hai in another land do more harm than his peer in SG.

I rather have TPL in MY parliment than a person who keep talking BS and try to be a hero.

Added on December 5, 2011, 11:11 amUnlike Malaysia where gov servant will get pension pay out when their retired, many SG public servant do not have pension at all (except minister and the like). So the 13-month bonus(or Non-Pensionable Annual Allowance (NPAA) ) is their compensation for pension, usualy at its maximum of 1 month but it can be zero during real bad economy.

What nonsense you talking about la. Just bumping their salaries to 30k/month won't make the system any less corrupt. Those YB's songlap runs in the tens and hundreds of millions of ringgit (and probably even another magnitude higher in the case of Sarawak's beloved Taib Mahmud), you think 30k a month gonna make any difference?

food+groceries 1.3k
transport 200
other utilities & misc expenses 100
room ... 300 to 800

your mileage may vary.

food + groceries @ 1.3k?

Must be a lot of fat & calories in there...

You know, the economists have a consensus on public and private property prices - downtrend. Yet, i checked @ HDB website on public property prices around my neighbourhood, buyers paying ridiculous premium. Either these buyers have a bulk of cash holdings, or Singapore is an outlier. Given the expected downtrend, rental prices should will trend southward. Banks will negotiate for 'top-up' if it goes below the threshold in SPA. With a lower "market price", rental yield should adjust itself.

The last thing Sg Govt & foreign investors want in Singapore is property prices dropped.

Just to add on... we did a calculation last time..
if really were to save on money i think overall expenses of around SGD1.5k (include everything from room to makan)
is quite feasible..

Room : SGD 500-700
Makan : SGD 5 per meal (5 x 3 x 30)
Mobile phone : SGD 30
Transport : SGD 5 per day (5 x 30)
Misc : SGD 200

Adds up : 500+450+150+200 = SGD 1300

hence.. probably can get a 2.5k a month ..
then savings of 1k per month ..
12k per year, and within 5 years.. can get 60k...
That's RM 144k....

That's a very conservative figure...

I would see that as quite a handsome sum as maybe many in the twenties working in MY would not achieve this easily...
