Not if you use the current exchange rate. Unless I'm reading it wrong - according to the survey, a CFO only earns THB3 million per annum. That's less than what most of my accounting managers in Singapore get. Actually that's less than what the accounting manager in our Bangkok office gets.

anyone here ever experienced taking train from KL to Singapore or vise versa? I ve checked the price it's much more cheaper than the prices for air tickets...not too sure y most  ppl prefer to travel by bus..
Because the train is slow... quite a few stops. And the frequency of buses and flexibility of pick up/drop off points is much higher.

Besides, KTM now stops in JB. Tg Pagar has been returned to the SG govt.

The last train I took was the ETS from KL Sentral to Ipoh. Actually not too bad. Spacious, comfy seat, new and clean (get it while it's hot, cos after a few years, it'll be dirty and decayed like every racially and politically managed service in Malaysia), fast (top speed was 141kmh on that day) and good NV suppression (noise, vibration). Also don't have the irritating "kang-kang" every xx meters due to the expansion joints.

I think he means the accident was so bad that the driver's hand was severed and his employer, the travel agency just left it there at the accident scene for the csi to find.

this is what I mean.
2 people died and the victims had to pay all the hospitalisation fees around 2k/day.
How in the world did you think that we would associate "leaves the hand" with "taking no responsibility"?

Your English there wasn't bad. It was actually bizarre rather than bad.

How much of your salary do you spend on "cost of living"? Discretionery stuff that you buy (like gadgets etc) are not cheaper.

I saw that too, and wishing silently, patiently for the answer.  sweat.gif
Waiting patiently is not the answer. All you have to do is save 2800 a month in the bank and at the end of 3 years, you will have 100800. The answer is work harder, work smarter and earn enough to save 2800 a month. Waiting patiently for the answer to fall onto your lap is... blink.gif

This is not a good way... U need to how to invest too... perhaps in shares to achieve that $100K faster.
Risk and return.

Shares are a good way of MAYBE getting 100K after 3 years. But also maybe not, especially in the last 5 years or so.

Anyway, I was focusing on how to GET money, not how to invest it. You have to have money to make money.

Just wondering.. do you guys drive Msia or spore registered car? with the sky rocketing COE, it seems much cheaper to maintain a msian car now if you're not PR.
Malaysian cars cannot be "maintained" (kept/parked/driven indefinitely) in Singapore.

You're expecting Singaporeans to have special kungfu when it comes to saving money?

There is this section in LTA's website saying that a work pass holder can drive in with a foreign vehicle but,

"the vehicle is kept or used outside Singapore for a total period of 6 hours or more everyday"
That means its "maintained" in Malaysia lah, just like its non Singapore resident driver/owner.

b) he resides outside Singapore;
c) the vehicle is kept or used outside Singapore for a total period of 6 hours or more everyday;
d) he has a valid insurance certificate and road tax for the use of the vehicle on Singapore roads

OK, I see. You'll get your EP when you get your EP. There are more political and social considerations these days, but if your salary is high like you say... should not be a problem. No matter what, Singapore is still trying to attract high net worth individuals.

QUOTE(r1v3r @ Nov 24 2011, 10:50 AM)
so will you carpool with others if they offer you  ~s$480/month?
if someone else drive me to and fro SG then I can take a nap or sipping coffee while reading news paper in the car. If the service is reliable then I can sell away my SG car or just get a backup OPC when my COE expired.

I can't imagine myself paying RM133750.00 (S$54887) just for that piece of COE. That's S$457/month, I rather pay that money for someone else to drive.
That's why there's taxi drivers.

Car pooling in my opinion is never reliable. That's because people get sick, get emergencies, get lazy, get late, get forgetful and at some point, they have something better to do. If anyone in the car pool is late, everybody is late. If the driver doesn't want to drive that day... everybody has to scramble for alternative transport.

Keen on getting a job with car allowance after my graduation from NUS later. Anyone knows what is the car allowance rate like for sales/marketing personnel in SG? My sis's company, an MNC in healthcare industry is offering SGD1200/month for their fresh grad sales staff.
We pay S$1500 for non-managerial staff as long as they need the car to work (tool of trade allowance). For managers, the car benefit perk starts at S$2000 for junior managers to $4500 for senior directors.

Our HR tells us that this is competitive vs the rest of the market and is based on the cost to buy, run and maintain a car in Singapore. But this scale was last revised when the COE was still S$20K, about 2 years ago. I expect it to be revised again soon, now that the COE has become $50K with no possibility of going back down, due to step-by-step decreases in COE supply. Over the car's lifetime of 5 years, the $30K difference in COE is worth approximately $500 a month extra.

Wow $4,500, no wonder there are damn lots of BMWs and Mercs around. Great! I'll work hard and try to get into those big companies like yours smile.gif
If you were a director earning $30K or more a month, would you tolerate driving anything less?

with that pay i'd consider bmw n merc as the 'less' group already
except fo some higher echelon type/model  brows.gif
Depends... imho, richer Singaporeans typically want to spend less on cars (as a % of their income) than Malaysians. So even though they might earn $350-400K a year, it doesn't mean they want a car that's also worth $350-400K. Most of them will probably buy a car around $150-200K.

Contrast that to Malaysians, where it's natural for freshies who earn RM25K a year to buy a car worth RM40K. I was one of them... I was barely earning RM50K a year in KL, and I spent RM80K on my first car. Then you get people earning RM10K a month (RM120K a year, maybe RM150K including bonus) suddenly thinking they can afford a RM300K Evo, 320i or C-Class.

I thought once you are director, company will provide you a car. they will reimburse the fuel, erp, parking too
Are you related to the other TS who posted a thread to ask at what job level the company will provide house, gardener, car, driver and pay for utilities as well?

It's about cash. It's always only about cash. If they pay you enough, you can buy your own car, pay for your own fuel, ERP and parking too. You do realise that if they give you a car, they will take it out of your salary and bonus, right?

if got exp about 4 yrs, how much basic salary shall we request in SG??
What kind of experience?

If you're a MP like Tin Pei Ling, 1 month experience also get paid $14K.

If you're a construction worker, 10 years experience also get paid $1.5K.

Car benefit is part of the remuneration package. If our employees with car benefit take taxis or drive on business, they still claim taxi fare and mileage.

isnt that fair? then what's a company car for?
Depends on what the car allowance is for. Whether it is part of your renumeration package, or some of reimbursement for out of pocket expenses.

For us, unless you're customer facing (salesman or tech service etc ie. tool of trade), a car allowance is level dependent. If you're senior enough, you get it as part of your overall package. Whether they pay that part of the package as salary or allowance is merely an administrative matter.

If you spend out of pocket for company business, that's a different matter which is not linked to your package.

If people who get car allowances cannot claim taxi, mileage etc, then the sales managers (who need to move around a lot) will be disadvantaged vs. say the finance managers (who stay in office) - when it comes to their package despite being the same job level. The sales managers' out of pocket expenses will eat into a lot more of their car allowance, compared to the finance managers.
