Depends... imho, richer Singaporeans typically want to spend less on cars (as a % of their income) than Malaysians. So even though they might earn $350-400K a year, it doesn't mean they want a car that's also worth $350-400K. Most of them will probably buy a car around $150-200K.

Contrast that to Malaysians, where it's natural for freshies who earn RM25K a year to buy a car worth RM40K. I was one of them... I was barely earning RM50K a year in KL, and I spent RM80K on my first car. Then you get people earning RM10K a month (RM120K a year, maybe RM150K including bonus) suddenly thinking they can afford a RM300K Evo, 320i or C-Class.

Waiting patiently is not the answer. All you have to do is save 2800 a month in the bank and at the end of 3 years, you will have 100800. The answer is work harder, work smarter and earn enough to save 2800 a month. Waiting patiently for the answer to fall onto your lap is...

How does one measure the success of a country? To the people, it is reflected in their overall standard of living.

Not every country is lucky enough to have a team of intelligent people whose passionate objectives drive them to make their country a better place to live – for everyone.

Singapore is one such country. Today this island republic has one of the highest standard of living in Southeast Asia.

But priorities are individual.

For me, retirement comes second to security. I dont mind paying a fortune for Security even though that leads to living in a pigeonhole.

That's me and that's my priority.

You are generalising too much. Most people in Malaysia cannot retire at 50 and lead the lifestyle they want. Some can but most can't.

Same for Singapore. Most people can't retire at 50 and keep their lifestyle, but some can.

Your observations are selective, your conclusions are prejudiced by your biases and you randomly make motherhood statements that are supposed to represent an entire population when your knowledge doesn't extend beyond the narrow area that you have come in contact with.

I dunno about you man, but when I retire would take a lot more factors into account than just the cost of a kopitiam meal.

Btw, RM4 for a meal is on the low end, you would probably get a measly 2-3 vegetable dish or those weird mixed meat from a chap fan stall with that amount. You wanna plan your retirement around cost of cheap chap fan meals, be my guest.

Single gooding can do stupid stuff all the time.... Less expenses...

ermm.. drive while cursing and pay no regards to others, smoke, hangout with guy friends doing all kinds of worthless stuff like dota, stare at girls, join fights, rempit... etc etc

split expenses while staying apart no matter what increases as compared to being single.. unless both are able to stay together and share cost then some savings is possible

Kampung girls these days are different man. They are as materialistic as city girls if not more so. These days i go kampung and i see young girls with LV bag and prada shoes. Further they are also all looking for that rich guy to marry and want to live the tai-tai lifestyle like they see on TV. Blame it on the media

Wow.. that a good planning with one stone kill two birds. 

But, you need to earn more to sustain that kind of lifestyle, right ?

Example : The parents are financial independent, of course they hope their daughter future husband also deep pocket.
So no Win Win situation here.

Got myself a 32" inch TV so that i can play MW3, but since im so busy lately, my younger brother would be spending more quality time on it then i am. Too bad there are no custom fabricators in singapore who can fit a ps3 and a 23 inch lcd within the frames of a pelican case, then i can just bring my gaming rig on the "rig".

too bad, there are still struggling in lack of electricity... now still need to buy electricity from Msia.. sad.

this is why SG consider to build a nuclear plant.

and the worst part is... SG is lack of land for further exploitation and population growth. After 20 yrs, SG development will eventually come to a standstill due to no land for further developments.

I hope Australia will sell some islands to SG (at least equivalent to half the size of current SG in the next few years). 

but land remains an issue. indo and malaysia stopped selling sands to singapore for obvious reason. from which country singapore gets the supplies for land reclamation? tengah and bidadari are potential sites for future new town development after punggol and that's that. are there any empty lands left for new town development? how sustainable singapore is to accomodate ever increasing numbers of population considering the scarcity of land, unless indo is willing to sell batam island to singapore.

Malaysia & Indonesia got so many kroni and corrupt gov, how to say dun wan to sell sand to SG??? As long as got people (or country) willing to pay money, they will figure a way to steal sand. Otherwise how do you explain the constant sand theft in Kuala Selangor???

I personally prefer the colour reproduction of a LCD than LED, mainly because the LED looks over-saturated to my eyes most of the times..

i do not agree.
Everywhere, be it msia or sg, having a gf dampen your saving plans abit, but thats life.
in sg, there are plenty sg girls who are not materialistic. In some extend, some sg guys may keep on
complaining all sg girls are materialistic,  but its not true. Everyone is materialistic to some extend.
i met many nice sg girls who are very down-to-earth. they do have dreams of getting a rich handsome man,
but they are also realistic to know not everyone can have everything.

in sg, i really dislike those guys who aim for those model looking type, couldn't get the babe and
complain she is bloody materialistic. They should look themselves in the mirror...
can't blame the girl if there are  tons of handsome and bloody rich guys going after her right?

02 is the area code for Singapore, just like 03 for Klang Valley, 05 for Ipoh etc. This is known as STD (Subscriber Trunk Dialling) or area call / trunk call. Today, years later, you can still use 02 to call Singapore from Malaysia using Telekom fixed line. Not sure if MY mobile phones can still use STD. No idea if you can still use your SG fixed line to call 03 for KL, 05 for Ipoh etc. SG mobile phones cannot and have to use IDD.

65 is the IDD code for Singapore (International Direct Dial).

+ is the IDD access indicator for mobile phones... basically tells your phone that the next 2 or 3 numbers is an IDD code. Dialling 001 in Singapore and 00 in Malaysia from a fixed line performs the same function. In SG, it's actually cheaper instead to use service provider specific IDD access codes like 018 for Starhub to make IDD calls, rather than + or 001.

Added on November 29, 2011, 11:43 pmSPGs are attracted to expat packages. Fact of life that angmohs in SG are in SG only because their companies pay a premium to bring them here. You seldom find average angmohs coming to Singapore on local pay to do average jobs.

Honestly still prefer asian boys even after I study overseas  There's always the social barrier and I find they like to drink and watch sports, which I don't participate in... And with asian boys no need to always remind them to take off their shoes when they enter a house
