food + groceries @ 1.3k?

Must be a lot of fat & calories in there...
Not really leh. Depends on how you eat. My lunch is typically between $10-15 (Jack's Place, Crystal Jade Kitchen, bento lunch etc). Even if it's chap fan, a nice piece of fish, meat and 3 veges will cost $6-7 bucks. Including a drink, averaging about $30-40 a day for 3 meals. Then each weekend, my groceries will be about $50-$100. And if go to nice restaurants and have a durian weekend... the it all goes to hell.

Just to add on... we did a calculation last time..
if really were to save on money i think overall expenses of around SGD1.5k (include everything from room to makan)
is quite feasible..

Room : SGD 500-700
Makan : SGD 5 per meal (5 x 3 x 30)
Mobile phone : SGD 30
Transport : SGD 5 per day (5 x 30)
Misc : SGD 200

Adds up : 500+450+150+200 = SGD 1300

hence.. probably can get a 2.5k a month ..
then savings of 1k per month ..
12k per year, and within 5 years.. can get 60k...
That's RM 144k....

That's a very conservative figure...

I would see that as quite a handsome sum as maybe many in the twenties working in MY would not achieve this easily...
*
Saving RM144K in 5 yrs is not alot actually...
Buy a car in KL already lost RM60K, downpayment for a property will add-in another RM50K, buy some shares another RM30K.. that is for 5 yrs of savings.
Now I target to save RM120K per year or RM600K in 5 years.

He is making an assumption of those earning $2.5k with saving of $1k/mth.

If your earning power is higher, ur target of RM120k/annum by no mean is achievable...

Eh I think this is a "reasonable" food budget. I normally have lunch at this salad place near my office ($9.90). Dinner eat simple like Ramen already $20-$25. Breakfast budget $3 for cereal or toast+kopi or whatever set and that's already $1k+ not counting snacks, drinks, weekends (where you go out and eat $50+ dinners.

yeah...

if you would compare people who is making RM2.5k in KL . .and SGD2.5k in Singapore..
so the guy in Singapore would be very luxurious already ...while in KL .. is just trying to get the ends to meet..

I know, just pulling a Myanmar worker's leg. With just S$1.5k, I think other workers only "invest" in toto.

am wondering why u want to ask forummer how much to save if earn sgd4k/month. its depend to you lifestyle living in this sin city, depend on yourself to calculate. what if we tell u, u can save sgd2500/ month? can u make it? then if u cant make it, are you going to ask us again on how to how to how to? come on man, use ur brain to calculate. i know is not wrong to ask around for opinion, but at the end, is up to yourself on how much saving u r keen to save. cheers!!

Hi guys, I am new here..

Yesterday I received an offer for Finance Manager for $5K + fixed transport allowance of $200 in a listed company.

I have 4.5 yrs exp. Izit underpay? Should I ask for more or should I reject it?

If I accept it, I need to start work on 15 Dec 2011.
