IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!!
TO ALL FELLOW PPLYNC MEMBERS WHO ARE DRIVING PERSONA ELEGANCE:
If you have ever experienced sounds (tak tak tak tak tak) coming from your engine during cold start in the morning, then it MAY BE one of the infamous Proton's manufacturing defect: the IAFM problem. IAFM noise is most noticeable during cold start, and you may hear the frequency of the noise going up or down depending on the RPM that the engine is running at. The noise is identical to a diesel truck or lorry's engine idling noise. Once the engine has warmed up, the noise will become softer or totally eliminated. This is because the plastic components on one of the valves on IAFM expands with heat. Below is a video of a member's car with IAFM problem.
So far the problems that may be associated with IAFM noise are nothing major, but in certain cases it may cause severe throttle lag, and the noise may get louder over time. Some owners have even experienced increase in fuel consumption and bad engine response.
If you visit the service centre and the mechanic or service attendant tells you that the noise is not caused by IAFM as our Persona Elegance comes with new batch of IAFM modules, DO NOT believe what they said.
You may: 1.) Ask them to diagnose and tell you what exactly is the problem since they insisted that it's not IAFM module noise. 2.) If the mechanics at CoSE tell you that the noise is not caused by IAFM, go to a few different SCs, have them to check your IAFM module for imperfections on the valve, then get them to write a report each. Compile these reports & bring it to CoSE's customer service and file a complaint, give it to their higher authority.
Now, do remember that they may not be able to figure the noise out if you send your car to SC as the engine has already warmed up. Park your car and leave it there for an hour or so for the engine to cool down, then get the service attendant or mechanic to listen to the noise as you start the engine.
Again, I would like to stress on this main point as I've experienced this myself and wasted almost a month plus before sending it to a different SC just to have the noise diagnosed as IAFM problem; If the guys at CoSE tells you that it's not IAFM problem but your guts and 13 other SCs tell u that it is, then it IS IAFM problem. In my case they never even bothered to check as the engine has already warmed up and the sound was gone by the time the mechanic laid his hands on my car.
This serves as an important announcement to all Persona Elegance (PE) owners as to not overlook this small issue that may lead to greater problems in the future. The price of IAFM modules has dropped since year 2009 (from RM 1200+ in late 2008 to RM 2xx in 2011) because of the frequency of Campro IAFM engines having this problem. Still, it's our right to claim the IAFM modules as they are covered under warranty and malfunctioned units are manufacturing defects. We should not wait till the warranty period is over and then pay them RM300+ including labour to fix a defect that is there from day 1 of ownership of the car itself.
I hope all the Persona Elegance owners out there take note of this issue and do not keep an eye closed.

Problem 1: Knocking sound when cornering on uneven surface coming from Front RHS Causes: This is due to the power steering fluid delivery piping knocking against the metal pipe and the body underneath it as the uneven road causes it to twitch up and down. OLD Pipe (left) vs New Pipe (right) [attachmentid=1911676][attachmentid=1911677]
Solution: Proceed to Proton SC to claim warranty for Power Steering fluid assembly. Claims are FOC, including the power steering fluid. Parts list they will change for this new power steering assembly. 1)Tube B - PW828913N 2)Tube A - PW828914N 3)Hose Return - PW828915N 4)Rubber Hose - PW820961 5)Clip Pressure - PW820962 6)Orifice Valve - PW895228
Problem 2: Radio hangs/not responsive while driving and no buttons seems to response to press. Causes: The RDS function is scanning for a clearer frequency. Due to different frequency for the same radio station overlapping certain areas while driving, this causes the radio to re-tune the station. Solution: Turn off the RDS function loh. Go read the manual on how to do it.
Problem 3: Klock klock sound coming from the rear seat. (Not applicable for B-Line ) Causes: The foldable rear seat hook has a bit of free play. Solution: Wrap some thick cushion type double sided tape to the hook.
Tips for Persona Users (To be Updated)

1)Most SC uses Petronas engine oil. To use other engine oil, exp Shell Helix HX-7, its recommended to go to authorized service outlets instead. 2)Stock brake pads are softer than Sponge Bob. Recommendation is to change it to ceramic brakes. Better performance and lesser dust. Best Form Ceramic Nao cost just RM63 for a set of front pads. Can get from forummer Kelvin (if im not mistaken).
Tires Most silent = Primacy LC, slightly poor grip on wet roads (a tradeoff for less noise). Dry Grip High Performance = Bridgestone Potenza RE001, Toyo T1R (A wee bit noisier than RE001) Wet Grip High Performance = Yokohama S-Drive, Pirelli P Zero (Rare)
Help to calculate FC Register at http://www.fuelly.com/ and post it in ur siggy. Maybe in the next Version of the thread we can reserve the 2nd post for FC monitoring by forumers.. Or another ideal way to calculate is to 1) Fill full tank petrol and reset trip meter 2) Drive car like mad fella or slow like aunty.. 3) When u need to refill the tank (no matter is only used half tank only or use till no more petrol in tank), top it back up to full tank (remember to note down how many litres filled in, using the price instead is subjective as petrol price fluctuates up and down and may affect future comparison). 4) Jot down mileage from previous full tank till refill and reset trip meter again. 5) Calculate (FC= Total mileage/Litres filled to top up back to full tank). 6) Post it up onto our club here for comparison. State ( XX% city driving / YY%highway) in XX KM/L format..

Juz sat my fren waja mivec 1.6 ori auto and civic v tech b18 type r engine wit major modification,d power of 2 car reali powerful..nw reali feel campro 1.6 reali reali reali is underpower in 1600cc category.reali need plan to do port n polish,rebore n polish d throtte body on next year.
U compare mivec 1.6 with Campro for wat? Compare with CPS I still can understand. 4G18 & Campro then only it's fair.
And u also stated there major mods with the type R engine VTEC. How to compare with campro? U sumbat CPS into ur PE then do major NA mods lah. I'm sure u can tapau them if u want.

Can get power if u want. Proton's engine not that bad actually. It's just that they tend to screw up something somewhere during the process of deciding parts to use for the car. Instead of a plastic manifold for the IAFM, they could've gone alloy, but no. And the auto gearbox is robbing 30+% of the engine's full potential. They could've chosen a better gearbox rite? It's all about profit making.

No point. Cos then the kiasu ppl that he's comparing the engine with will say 'u got turbo mah...'. Best way is to compare NA vs NA with the right amount of technology under each hood.
And I thought B18 is a 1.8 engine? Why 1.6 compared with 1.8? And if, like what sam said, the B18 is extensively modded, I'm sure a stroker kit is included to push the displacement up to 2.0. How is it still fair?

And I thought B18 is a 1.8 engine? Why 1.6 compared with 1.8? And if, like what sam said, the B18 is extensively modded, I'm sure a stroker kit is included to push the displacement up to 2.0. How is it still fair?
U compare mivec 1.6 with Campro for wat? Compare with CPS I still can understand. 4G18 & Campro then only it's fair.
And u also stated there major mods with the type R engine VTEC. How to compare with campro? U sumbat CPS into ur PE then do major NA mods lah. I'm sure u can tapau them if u want.

Hi, there. For Persona owners here, the recommended engine oil is XW-40 and XW-50. For XW-30, can use but scared later engine cepat kong because Campro is high rev engine. Anyway, as far as I know only 1 guy here use XW-30.

wont la... if u really go study the nutrition, u will found vege is the best contain all nutrition tat u body need and less fat zero cholesterol!! I'm not vegetarian yet but practice to more vege and less meat. and scientist has proven tat vegetarian immune system is 2 times stronger and active than a omnivore.. and less chance to get cancer, heart disease, liver and kidney problems.
i eat healthy product + reduce diet + more vege/fruit less meat... more easy!! if u go find out the calories reduce when u sport, i think u will very disappointed!

It's really down to individuals, TBH. Different ppl's body have different requirements, and some may require higher amount of certain nutrition than others due to genetic factors. If u take into account of metabolism factors, genetic factors and lifestyle factors, u will see the difference.. A diet plan that works for u may not be able to work for another person..
this morning read other forum about a guy with diabetes and later he was diagnosed to have kidney 'bocor' problem...hes 32.now i am feeling scared.cos i might have the same problem...so..for those who a bit heavyweight champion. lets go do some sport ..every week futsal or something like that..or we do Xbox with kinect TT and play kinect games..healty what..

YUP... due to many factors, diff individual will need diff amount of nutrition. but all this need specialist to check for u cannot sendiri agak agak and makan!! but so far i have seen a lot ppl manage to reduce their weight using this method. I'm going to be one of those!! SLIM ah!!

The sugar will clog the fuel pump, and if it manage to get thru it, it will clog the fuel line. If it still manage to get thru it, it will clog the injectors. If all 3 are clogged, be prepared for an overhaul

Could it be that the conrod bearings are the one causing the noise instead? Ur car has been thru some accidents, the shock from the accidents may cause the engine balancing to be slightly off..

I have noticed this sound in my car especially when braking soft. I checked with the SC and they say its normal...Don't know if this is true with disc brakes or if it is a case that the SC doesn't know what to do. Your advise is greatly appreciated.

i driving H-line.. can say quite normal.. because of the brake PAD. if u change the brake PAd.. the sound will GOne.

i dont think the sounds is that noticeable.. unless ur switching ur a/c blower at the slowest speed without switching on the audio.. then only can hear that sound.. its the pad sounds scratching the rotor..

hm..everyday rain.... btw i couldn't help but notice there's excessive wheel spin when the road is wet..and its not even full throttle but around 2.5k rpm when released the clutch..cold weather makes me wanna go faster cos its damn nice to rev..

All of sudden, got one idiot make ilegal U-turn at T junction but I was 50meter away from that idiot. This means that myvi has save my life and car.. if not i would be in accident now..

if d swift driver dare to take corner wit highspeed,d swift wont lose lo..personally tested oledi.swift handling even a bit better than persona..i drove swift most of d time oso drive fast at corner.

Actually, we recommend 4-2-1 even for manual cars because of the increased FC with 4-1 system. This is why u notice a slight drop in FC once u swapped out the stock 4-1 exhaust. For manual cars, the increase in FC is less noticeable (we all know manual cars have better FC than autos, so when the stock extractor is swapped out & replaced with a 4-1, the FC is slightly increased, but still not as high as stock auto cars' FC). For auto cars, the 4-1 aftermarket extractor will be detrimental to ur FC as the flow is optimised for high-rev power. When ur low end sucks, u need to step a bit harder on the pedal to get to cruising speed. This condition worsen when u're in a traffic jam.
Dorinyeah, ur car is manual so FC increase not much lah. Change to 4- 1 lah.

me also now stretching my last amount of money..no drive car, just bike..rm10 can last one week,parking rm2 perday and food rm10 per day..so minimum expenses next week should be around rm70 for 5 days working(next week deepavali)..but my bike the engine leaking, two weeks without rear plate number, no right and left sinal, no rear braking light and both tire botak already, very dangerous when riding in wet condition. and my salary come out every 29. money..money..where are you..if can sell thing in my room..id sell them alrready..

If you're driving the H-Line, the brake system along with the brake pad is quite good for daily driving. Very dusty is the con. If you compare it with performance pad, of course, cannot compare lar...trying compare a daily car with a performance car, you WILL see the big difference.
For the pad, I believe is a 250C to 300C pad. Performance pad are usually 450C and above. I'm driving a City with the stock Nissin pad as well, abt 300C kuah. Some ppl complain spongy feel also, brake hard won't brake straight but that is also the ABS working to prevent tyre locking. Its braking performance its almost the same like PE H-Line. Been driving City for near 6 years liao b4 being "chong kong" by my wife. The fact that PE is abt 150 to 200kg heavier than City and still feel same braking performance speaks quite well for its braking system and stock pad.
I did quite a few emergency hard braking (not at high speed but normal daily driving speed), still slide forward as expected for ABS, but good enuf to brake in time. If really celup brake pad, sure bang liao. So I would say if you're a daily driver that don't speed often, the stock pad combined with H-line braking system is very adequate liao. Also stock pad won't makan the disc, most performance pad would. So far I would say H-Line brake pad did strike a balance between performance and comfort (not makan rotor)...
if it become audible for others might be the clip there rubbing with the rotor already..

May be the brake pads metal clip too. Stock brake pads are prone to screeching noises like this, maybe because the clip manufactured is longer.

when should we service our aircon? should we follow a specific time frame or we wait until its not cold? my airccon is still ok, just 2 years plus. i just wonder if we need any preventive maintenance

or did u check the car before u sign off the paper... when i got mine there are few on the bonnet as well... looks like sharp claws mark onli... then i *** the SA till his wife a.k.a my godsister also cant recognize.... he repainted for me after all the fuss... sometimes the SA dont check the car b4 deliver
