QUOTE(linkinawe @ Aug 9 2012, 02:39 PM) Anyone can recommend a monitor to me ? budget 1k, use at home, prefer at least 24"+(dont mind the bigger screen), hdmi, full HD, without speaker. please check if you required a TN or IPS .mostly for main priority works(A plus if the monitor can rotate to vertical physically, for programming and photo-editing purpose or have VESA mount so i can turn it vertical) entertainment(BD movies) Need accurate color too for photo-editing low priority need it to be thin as possible(would like monitor occupy less space if possible) any monitor that suits my need ? |

Good day sifu.
I'm looking for a 120hz monitor with budget around 1-1.2k. So far the only choice available are Samsung S23A950D and Alienware AW2310. I've been doing a lot of research this past few days, and the review for both monitor are mixed. For instance, 1. Alienware can only be enjoyed after you enabled the overdrive, in which the color quality will be degraded slightly but you'll get fast response time instead. 2. My room are quiet bright, and I have to open the window all the time because its too hot. So glossy monitor like Samsung are kind of no-no. 3. And then there's this LED backlight bleeding issue on Alienware, though most reviewer says it doesnt affect much. As certain someone said to me, you win some, you lose some. With that kind of money, I can get 2 Dell IPS monitor instead, but the 8ms response time kinda turn me off. Is it that obvious compared to 2ms? And apparently, the BenQ XL2420T are the most positive reviewed monitor out of all, but the RM 1799 price tag is.. well... Is there any other good alternatives? If not, i just grab the Samsung over this weekend. EDIT : or perhaps i dont need 120hz at all? any recommendation on TN monitor? This post has been edited by CZero: Aug 10 2012, 09:45 AM |

Is it that obvious compared to 2ms? Backlight bleed issue can happen to all monitors, although this isn't noticeable at bright pixels other than dark black (no light), this usually only happen during very dark movies, if there's too much bleed, you can always call up Dell to exchange another, well since it's door-2-door so you won't need to worries about all those petrol, parking, etc. 8ms is actually quite fast, unless you're playing those super high-pace shooting game like Counter-Strike, Sudden Attack where you need to turn really quick and still able to see the surrounding clearly, otherwise the 8ms advertised is darn good (and it's no lie, it's actual G2G 8ms, measured by professional reviews). From my experience, newer shooting game does not really need those 120Hz any more, most of them is getting it for the 3D, other than that, high-pace shooting is only for those who wants clear image at very quick games (less blur effect). As for the Alienware overdrive, not too sure about the quality lost, though I don't think that's much concern if you're playing those high-pace game and only worry about getting shot at then looking at those eye candy?? |

QUOTE(wildwestgoh @ Aug 10 2012, 11:52 AM) Just to answer your few question to clear your doubt. most of my current fps games was set on medium setting to achieve the minimum 60fps. (i only use nvidia 560ti), so i guess i wont be needing any eye candy... i was a bit worried the color quality would degraded too much it'll affect the gameplay. Thanks. yes, but must aim for 1920x1080 a.k.a. full HD panel not 1366x768 WXGA scaling it cost higher, but u will be delight as usual, tv use 16-235 gradient vs pc 0-255 full range gradient. might need adjustment in display card if u want better colour acuracy |

I think the reason is pretty obvious when newer model releases and is priced more competitively compared to the older 2 yrs old model, and running on LED backlighting means savings in electricity and of course less heat. But I don't think it's factory tuned like the 2410 and 2711. I'm holding my bullets first as I'm looking for an upgrade as well.

From what i can see though the colour gamut is smaller compared to the U2711 |

There will be a factory calibration report in the box if it is really factory calibrated. |
