Have to share this too. Read about it yesterday, and kept on refreshing to get the same quote from shankly.com. Tied some pieces from certain sites, showing not arrogant but simple, not overconfident, but just damn right!

The thing about Emlyn "Crazy Horse" Hughes that I didn't realise is that he wasn't exactly well liked by his teammates. Comparisons have been made between him and Carra but from what I've read in Tommy Smith's biography, Emlyn wasn't the personification of a Liverpool type player. He certainly wasn't respected by Smith at least at a captain and from what the Anfield Iron has said, no one really got on with him off the pitch. I was surprised to read this but Tommy Smith is Liverpool through and through and certainly has credence.

Kenny was given an offer he couldn't refuse. Only I would have respected the boss all the more if he had. Dalglish had a fire sale of sorts. One person who was on the chopping block was Raul Meireles. The midfielder is now the property of Chelsea, and they are thrilled to have him. The Blues get an aged Portuguese international that is at a crossroads in his career. Meireles found himself increasingly on the outside looking in at Anfield.
With newer and younger faces coming in, Meireles was assured of getting even less time as the season wore on. So this move was significantly better for the player, despite claims he would have like to stay at Anfield. On the outside, the deal looks pretty good for Liverpool as well. Dalglish did get £500,000 more than the club paid FC Porto last year. For a 28-year-old to yield his side a profit, a miracle usually has to be performed.
With little play being offered and extra cash coming in, the Reds had to pull the trigger. Yet, that doesn't it make it the right move. We are young all around the pitch. We will miss , not just the depth that Meireles offered, but his veteran wisdom. Such a thing is a hot commodity in the EPL. The real worry is that Chelsea, a team we will battle all year for the second spot on the table, now have the depth to compete domestically and in the Champions league.
Meireles is a versatile player able to attack and serve the ball in deep as well as win balls. Chelsea get a perfect player for their style of play. More than that, Meireles is a cerebral player that does very well to lead on the pitch. Chelsea needed to get younger, which they didn't, in this regard. But they also needed quality characters, which they received in spades.
Addition by subtraction? Not in this case
I got the impression we were looking to offload him the moment last season ended hence why he was almost left out of the tour of Asia. It's unsettling for a player hearing rumours that the brass are trying to flog you off especially after an impressive season.
Will he get more playing time at Chelsea? I don't know but it's probably given that he's not started this season and the likes of Adam and Henderson have taken to the team like ducks to water, and with Lucas a permanent fixture with the form he's in. Also, we've yet to welcome Stevie back into the side. Our options were severely limited in the heart of midfield last season but I've not even mentioned Jay Spearing who is also going to be jostling for a starting berth. The question is, are any of the new additions an improvement over Meireles who at 28 is at the peak of his career and if you consider that Stevie is already 32, has a few years of top flight football left in him? Forget that Roy Hodgson signed a star central midfielder and stuck him out on the wing, Meireles was in scintillating form when Stevie was out.
