Hmm, not too sure for IT but for Engineering it's a bit hard for now. Don't have the mindset that you will automatically get a job after graduating in an Australian Uni anymore It's very different compared to 5 years ago when the economy was way better, heck even the locals are finding difficulties in obtaining a job.

If you really wish to get employment after graduating, tailor yourself accordingly. Example: Join CCA, get involved in networking and do lots of part time jobs while obtaining good grades =)
*
That's what I have been thinking of for past few days. It's indeed very difficult to obtain a job without networking. Like what hihihehe and nemesis said some job requirements don't make sense at all. About the postgraduate program, did you or most of your international friends enroll to Full time (2 years) or part time study (4 years)?

Hmm, most of my friends are undergrads (4 years course), not postgrad, but some decided to stay back to do postgrad to widen their own opportunities

Effective 24 December 2013, applications for New South Wales nomination for the subclass 190 visa were closed.
What a waste of effort as they will reopen on July, 2014.
Anyone had experience entering Australia as student and then managed to get a job as well as PR ?
*
This. Just completed my degree and now I have no chance applying for PR and nomination from NSW until July 2014. Now an Accounting & Finance graduate, what would you guys suggest me to do during the period of 6 months before NSW nomination reopens?

- Obtain a Grad temp visa and apply for part-time tutoring at university/admin work and continue job searching in Australia
- Work in Singapore/Malaysia as an accounting/finance graduate/associate* and leave as soon as PR has been approved
- Work in Singapore/Malaysia as an accounting/finance intern*
- Other suggestions

*Preferably in Audit division

I am currently undecided (absolute torn) and open to any advice as I am sure some of you have obtained personal experiences as you go through this stage.

Thanks

What is your IELTS score? If you managed to get all 7, 25 yo and above and 2 years of study in Australia then you should able to go for subclass 189 without nomination. If not, you can go for temporary visa and still can look for your desired job

No. I guess you have to do more reading in EOI website and see what you actually have to do before submitting EOI

Noted. Thanks guys. Then I'll have to get my Skills Assessed first by the Australian Computer Society. The skill of interest is Systems Analyst.

I have gotten my Company Employment Reference letter. What other documents that I need to attach together other than the below?

https://www.acs.org.au/__data/assets/pdf_fi...t-Checklist.pdf

Do i need a stamp of "Certified copy" for all the documents that I scan or only the Company Employment Reference letter?

Happy New Year and thanks for your reply smile.gif . Fulfilled all above, except I am under 25 yo (far off). Since I am 5 points short, I am trying to acquire state nomination from the NSW government (willing to relocate to Sydney). As they no longer accept applications until July 2014, I was wondering if employers from my desired job are convinced to take me on board while holding a temporary visa. Tough luck indeed.

Sounds good, thanks. It seems the chance to find a job is much higher if you are graduated from Australia University, and then subsequently get the PR.  One of my relatives insisted me not to study there, according to her, it's impossible to get a job within few months so she returned to Malaysia. Just an additional info: she studied IT in Charles Sturt University in Melbourne. Recently, she left from her permanent job in Malaysia and has been unemployed for more than 6 months.
Any university could you recommend for IT postgraduate program? Did you apply before or after graduated?
I think 457 is still there. 190 for NSW is already closed, then I check subclass 489, but all IT occupations are not eligible for all their counties, some are even suspended.
Were all of your mates studying in NSW too? Did they all manage to obtain the PR? Thanks for sharing.  notworthy.gif

Why not??? You didn't notice that some western kids when they finished high school they started working for a year or 2 before heading to uni or technical institute??? Also during summer breaks, some were working jobs that were related to what they were studying???
One of my cousin was studying accounting. During summer breaks, she managed to secure jobs with accounting firms. Another cousin who studied Eng managed to find summer works with Eng firms.
Fresh grad....fresh...geddit. Boy you are very ignorant. Looks like towkay like you do not believe in hiring and train students during their holiday breaks. Pity Malaysian students

Why should we spend money to train people only for those people to treat the company as a stepping stone to some other company? What's in it for us? Who should compensate us in the event the employee leaves after we spent so much money, time and effort to train them?
That is why i only hire people with a track record. I don't mind paying more but i don't want people to learn on the job. You hit the ground running. In 3 months, if you cannot perform and meet your KPIs, you're out. full stop.

You want companies to train fresh grad, can. Bond them for at least 3-5 years. Otherwise make them pay back every penny the company has invested in them plus interest, if they break the bond. Afterall, the money would yield much more if i would just put it in FDs instread of spending it on training, not to mention paying for any cock-ups these people who will eventually commit.

Always remember that companies are not charities. We look at bottom line first and foremost. We weigh the pros and cons. While there are pros to taking fresh grads, it only appiles if you can keep those people. And only MNC has the financial, social and career ladder to keep them there. SMEs don't and can't. Our margins and scale are nowhere near those of MNC and we have to fight tooth and nail for every dollar. Therefore we cannot take a risk by investing in someone we do not know will stick long enough to yield results.

Did anyone get documents translated from BM to English for migration purposes, and if so where did you get it done?

Thanks for your reply. Have attempted that too, (3 times to be precise). Got 8 and above for reading and listening components while speaking fluctuates between 7 to 8 and writing 7 at max. I don't think re-sitting will be helpful at this stage and it is not cheap. Hence, I would rather invest my next IELTS exam fee on a NSW state nomination (unfortunately they're now closed). I, in fact do not mind not being in Australia prior to July 2014. Just have to find a way to acquire experience as I go through the first few months.

Too bad I am ineligible for 489 visa (taking all states into account).

Currently under student visa 573 until mid-March 2014. Still undecided if I should go for graduate visa 485 (eligible to apply as long as I apply in Australia before my student visa expires). Am trying to weigh if a graduate visa 485 costing close to $1.5k is worth the shot to be in Australia mainly covering the first 6 months with the uncertainty of scoring a relevant accounting job/part-time tutoring opportunities before obtaining a 190.

It's just the matter of time.
