Need advice on my current situation here..

Totally new to credit card but needed lots and lots of installment to fund my furniture now icon_question.gif

1. Annual Income: Around RM 50k..

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: No preference..

3. Card required for: 1. Mainly on electrical appliances and furniture which required like few years installment plan.. 2. Petrol.. 3. Groceries..

Of course preferably card with the max benefit. On rebates, discounts, freebies.. Shopping voucher etc etc.. LoL!

4. Existing credit cards if any: Nothing..

5. Preferred Bank or Considering CC from banks: Saw lots of feedback on OCBC hence.. OCBC? Needed advice so.. Comments are welcome nod.gif

6. Estimated Spending per month with the card: Not working for credit card so.. LESS than Rm 2k

Another thing.. Can any credit card user here clarify me. If let's say my credit limit is RM 1k.. I bought a microwave which costs me RM 900 on 12 months installments.. Can I still buy another RM1k item on the second month or I left with only RM175 (RM1000 - RM900 + RM75) for next month?

Thanks!

Well, for installment plans, Maybank Visa and MasterCard do have many outlets accepting them. Click below links to see outlets
http://www.maybank2u.com.my/mbb_info/m2u/p...=CRD01.16.01.01

http://www.maybank2u.com.my/mbb_info/m2u/p...sonal/CRD-Cards

Do note that sometimes merchants will give you further discount if you swipe one go instead of going with installment plans. This applies to most furniture stores that have installment plans, so ask.

So I would suggest that you go with Maybankard 2 Cards where you do installment plan with the MBB 2 Visa or MC and use the MBB 2 Amex for petrol and groceries to get 5X reward point and cash rebate.

As for available credit, the unpaid portion of the installment plan (i.e. outstanding yet to be billed) cannot be utilized, so you won't be able to buy the microwave in your example for the following months until your available credit is once again more than the microwave price.

OCBC Titanium is good for PEtrol, Groceries and Dining but not many outlets accepting it for installment plans, if you want Coach then yah.

Last but not least, you want installment plan for years? Usually the 0% installment plan is for 12 months only.

As for not working for the bank, as long as you opt for 0% interest free installment plan then it may be true, but once you pay interest then you are working for the bank. Since you new to credit card, if you have time, do read my two hypothetical scenarios on how one can be trapped with credit cards with installment plan by clicking below"

http://creditcardsmalaysia.blogspot.com/20...ual-income.html

Also suggest you read my article Intro to CC 101 by clicking here.

click here to read about OCBC Titanium MasterCard. As and from here go read about Maybankard 2 Cards.

yah, agree 100%.

Anyway, the benefit of MBB Petronas are
1. Free For Life
2. 5X TP at Petronas and nothing else for other stations.
3. Overseas transaction lowest since it is a MBB Visa.

For Overseas transaction, better you go with MBB Platinum Visa/MC (non co-brand) and get 2X TP.

Click here to read about my credit cards where I mentioned I cancelling the MBB Petronas CC.

OCBC Titanium best for spending below RM1K but you need annual income RM36K. So next best card where the cash back is also capped at RM50 is Maybankard 2 Cards. Click here to read more about it.. also go to MBB 2 thread http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1791925

Try Maybankard 2 Gold card, the Visa has the lowest overseas transaction conversion. Gives you cash rebate too with the Maybankard 2 Amex for shopping locally.

Click here to read more about Maybankard 2 Cards at my blog.

If you cannot qualify for the Maybankard 2 Cards, then apply for the other Maybank Visa/MasterCard.

Air Asia card is by Citibank, good if you fly Air Asia often and you get to book a day earlier than others when Air Asia has offers/promotion.

Citibank and HSBC overseas conversion rate would be higher than Maybank's credit cards. Click here to see comparison of rates between credit cards.

5. Preferred Bank or Considering CC from banks: Planning to apply for the new HSBC Signature.

6. Others: Going to apply using cc, not pay slip, with the cards i have and my annual income, is it possible to get the application approved? or it is strictly >100k income p.a. only? Nice payment records, frequent user of other CCs.

For your case, because you listed petrol and overseas transactions, I would recommend you Maybankard 2 Cards.

Maybankard 2 AMEX gives you 5X TP at Esso, Shell, Caltex and BHP, click here to go to Petrol thread.

Maybankard 2 Visa or MasterCard would give you lowest conversion rate. Actually, you can get more in returns with the AMEX but you would have to pay upfront and then redeem it for vouchers. Click here to read my articles on Overseas Transactions with various cards.

The HSBC Signature annual income requirement is RM100K. Having said that, if you have a credit card more than a year, HSBC can check your credit history and I guess the best place for you to apply is at Mid Valley where there are many agents there who are more than willing to assist you on your application. But if you ask me, I would still recommend you Maybankard 2 Platinum over the HSBC Visa Signature unless there is a specific merchant that the HSBC CC gives you discount where MBB 2 does not.

Click here to read my article on HSBC Visa Signature where I did a brief comparison versus the Maybankard 2 Cards.

Firstly, you have to make sure you can proof your annual income to be at least RM24K.

Looking at MBB website, the minimum income for their cards are RM30K rclxub.gif Cannot seem to find classic card. So if your salary is indeed RM29K/yr, try apply Maybankard 2 Gold Cards and your needs would be satisfied.

Citibank, there is no generic card in your income range that gives you anything for petrol.

For Petrol, you can go with Ambank Carz CC wher eyou get 2% cash rebate at all petrol station but capped at RM20/month or go with co-brand cards:

1) CIMB Petronas Gold Click here to CIMB website and download form. Minimum income RM24K for Gold Card. The classic card no more rclxub.gif Looks like CIMB updated to suit BNM ruling.
2) Citibank Shell - but this card got annual fees from 2nd year onwards and to enjoy maximum benefit need to have balance carried forward which means you be working for the bank and you living beyond your means.
3) UOB OneCard where you get 2% Smart$ Cash at BHP
4) Public Bank Esso Click here to PBB website.

Also look into Alliance Bank Classic card where they do give cash back based on tiers. Click here to view Alliance CC cash back tiers for Classic, Gold and Plat.

As for electrical goods, harvey norman accept almost all CC for installment plans. Or go to your favorite electrical shop and find out what cards they offer installment plans and apply for that card.

As for TNGo, not sure what you meant by it but if you want a CC with built in TnG, I would not advise you on it because it will give you headaches when your card is lost or when you have disputes, just go get separate TnG card.

Besides OCBC Titanium, there are many cash back cards such as Citibank Platinum Cash Back (o.3% for general transaction), HLB Essential (1% except for petrol), HLB Fortune (this one complicated), OCBC Gold (0.2%) & Plat (0.5%), CIMB Visa (0.5%) and several Debit Cards such as from Alliance and Public Bank.

But since you only spend RM1K to RM3K, the returns from the above mentioned cards won't give you more than RM30 in cash back monthly (excluded petrol since you did not state as a requirement). Therefore, if you not not considering insurance premiums, best card to get is still Maybankard 2 Cards where the AMEX earns you 5% cash back for all transactions on weekends and capped at RM50/monthly.

Click here to see comparison of cash back cards, OCBC vs CiTi Plat CB vs HLB Essestial vs AMEX Gold CC For an idea on Maybankard 2 Amex card, just assume it is like the Amex Gold CC (instead of cash back redeem for cash vouchers) but with additional benefit of 5% cash back on weekends.

Click here to read comparison of Maybankard 2 Amex vs OCBC Titanium MasterCard.

Click here to read brief comparison of Maybankard 2 Cards vs Citibank Platinum Cash Back.

Click here to read my article on the innovative HLB Fortune Visa Cash Back.

If after reading above, you still don't want Maybankard 2 Cards, go get Alliance Platinum or Premier Debit Cards where you get more than 1% cash back for all transactions.
